Trouble in the Hood 1: I'm Unable!

Liked it alot man.  Lots of great tones in there and I liked how the mix sounded alot.  The lead vocal line on the chorus seemed a little over the top to me....hmmm....loved the guitar and drums.

 I echo Philz response. Awesome mix great tune. Do you have the words to this posted somewhere? I'm not exactly sure I made them out.

I've never really been into the rap thing, but this worked so well with the Rock Element... amazing arrangement and the performances by Danny were inspired... this is very impressive guys...

This is one of the better tunes I've heard in the last few days. Keep it up.

  WOW. Philip there is So much good stuff happening here I don't know where to begin.
  Got serious chills on the third listen. Cause I'm Christian. Though the reality of the title is FELT by all. Trouble at home and in the market-place. And, I almost hate to say this but, you two have turned that truth into a marketable hook IMO. Danni's voice and guitar contributions are ethreal...iron over clay...Spirit giving voice and Melody and POWER to tears. From the opening (Emergency!) Siren to the closing refrain (repeatedly admitting the Humility of The Faith)...well, I'm just blown away. Forgive me, but this is not the "foolishness of preaching". This is crafty Inspiration. Thanks so much for sharing. Can't wait to hear what the children will be singing. Time is so short..Please don't make us wait too long. this is fantastic!  I'm normally not really into "rap" and this has more elements than normal rap songs.  this is just great all around!  can't wait to hear the kids added in!

Wow, this is really a spectacular collab with the perfect fusion of Rap and Modern Rock!


I'm in for my third listen.  Great songwriting and arrangement, and amazing performances on all the instruments.  Philip's rap verses really sound fantastic and Danny's guitars and vocals are absolutely stellar.  The mix is totally pro sounding, and Danny's tasty guitar solo is the icing on the cake.


Truly a dynamite job all the way around, guys!  Have a very Happy New Year!

@Timidi: Yeah you!  When Danny and I wrestled to abstract this into a chorus section for Danny's antics, I thought of how you rhythmically employed your vox in a piece or 2 (3 months ago).  That motivated me to hastily chant bkg vocs "hood hood trouble in the hood ... trouble trouble", etc. ... which in turn inspired Danny's infamous choir hooks.   You've got an ear (and chops) for rhythm and melodic soul, IMHO.

@Bob Oister:  You know I have no where near the talent as you and Danny.  Danny performed live drums, bass, and several guitar phrases and sections.  Plus he mixed and mastered the final stems.  I'm always your greatest fan!

@MakeShift:  I'm certain Danny appreciates your observation of the drumming.  The kicks and bass-drums are my groove ... until the Middle-8 Solo section ... everything morphs into live performances.  Danny performed that drum kit; everything is real and live there ... taking this out of hip-hop and into classic Van-Halen antics.

@BayouBill:  I'm most honored and elated :):):).  There is some excellent gospel rap out there, but much less Van-Halen-oid gospel.  We totally loved working together on these soul vibes.  I have to agree with you on the bass being "a tad low just a bit".  Danny's bass rocks but he didn't want to 'exploit' it hip-hop-style ... for artistic reasons, iirc.  OTOH, He allowed my thumping bass-drums more lee-way than many rock mix paradigms, iirc.  His bass guitar is not timid; it glues the mix here, but without hip-hop funk.  I've greedily kept the bass-funk in the original Hood Sketch of this: (http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=9878645)

It would be nice to have a nice choir to back Danny's chorus. (I know you would it you could.$$)  That's the only thing I don't like. Not the effect of it, just the sound. (no offense Danny)
