Tube snake Boogie cover (Really final mix 3,18)

Hi guys, I'm doing a cover CD mostly because I've discovered for most of my stuff, I don't have a clear vision of how it should sound in a mix so I figured I should do some covers to get things going here.  There are a few things about the mix here, like the low end might be a bit too bodacious?   Tube Snake Boogie

Oh man! I was just trying to close this shiz down and watch my movie! :-D

I love this old Top song!! :-)

She do the tube steak boogie... "classic!" I turned it UP!!

I might push the drums a bit harder? (and maybe saturate them some?) But this rocks :-)

(and the vox need to be wetter, and sung more like you just finished a 5th of Jack?) But I understand you did this as a guitar player, and who wouldn't? ZZ Top? Billy Gibbons? He's an icon... Good job there.

Thanks bro, I thought it was thunderbird I had to drink, :) As in wetter on the vox the effects, yes I think you are correct. I hadn't considered Saturn on the drums, I'll try that out too. THX

Billy Gibbons eat yer heart out.  Ya' smoked 'em, brother Grant.  About the only thing I didn't like about this was that I didn't get to sing it .

Seriously, the geetar work is great.  Agree with Robby on more verb and maybe some comp on the vox.  Drums could stand to sound a bit fatter, fuller, if that makes any sense.   Maybe you'll hear from one of the guys who can pinpoint those things better than me.

    Still, great job overall.

    Great pickin'
    Zz top, hillbilly style.

    I loved it.
Has a good vibe going on there.
I would like more drive, maybe fatter bass or chompin Gtr behind.
And More fx on the Vox.
Wish you could play on my zz top cover.
    Cool.

it is so hard to replicate billy gibbons vocals range
but man you nailed the harmonies and everything.
whats even harder to replicate is his playing style,
you nailed that too man,i thought just as impressive as
"Nasty dogs & funky kings cover" you seem to have really
learned the art of billy's harmonic picking,i cant even explain it,but i think you know what i mean.

its a unique quality that is very hard to obtain.
i love this style of music grant,im a metal guy mostly.
but my roots are deep in ZZ,skynard and zeppelin.
thats not to far off from where i think you are from.
    yet our styles are different.

i listened to all three of your tunes
"These Autmn leaves" is really a great piece of work.
its one of the most original arrangments ive ever heard.
(those are not words i throw around)
but the vocals need to come up.

I loved the "Tube snake boogie" when it first came out,i was only 12 back then but i still knew exactly what it was about.

    Great piece of work.

    Sounding good to me G.

Bout the only thing I can hear is the snare could use a tad more sizzle to it. Not level but EQ. Some "snap" or "crack" if you will.

    good cover,
and an excellent way to build recording chops

    it makes sense...
you take something that you really know in your head,
and then apply your mixing knowledge in trying to capture something similar.

what was the one thing over all else, that you took away from this particular mix?
the one thing you figured out that you didn't really get, until you did this one?

The vox was pretty sweet too..

I would have loved to hear the drums a bit crisper... but all in all.... great job.

I would change that stock sounding snare out, and humanize the drums to give them just a tad of swing.

    Good stuff.

You nailed the vibe perfectly. My wife looked over as if to say, "that's really from the forum?"

I agree with jamesyoyo about the snare and drums. IMHO, the snare is a bit too prominent, and the drum groove doesn't match. I noticed right away that the kick was only occurring on one. If you could get a human groove that pushes the beat, it would be perfect. Everything else was awesome!

This kicks major butt, just like the original. And major props for the GTR: great tone and tecnique.
The mix is strong- a good hard rocking sound.

Slams you right between the eyes in an agreeable way.

There's nothing to criticise as far as i'm concerned, it sounds just perfect.

I'm not familiar with the original, but i loved this.
