In the old days we were simply advised not to write songs with a lot of S sounds in them.

That way it sounded nice even if the microphone *broke* and you simply had to sing to the room.
What about Sneaky Snake?  He went dancin',  a wigglin', and a prancin'.

I wouldn't worry about the S's so much.

I like to SAMPLE a "good" S from the singer.  Then, I use a parametric eq/gate combo swept all the way up to the "S" frequency.  When it "fires off", it triggers Drumagog - which triggers my "good" S.  (Which has already been de-essed, btw)

It's what I did on the last Lipknot record.  (I de-essed the band name)

Of course, it only works if you send a mono signal to mono outputs...one left, and one right.  It would never work on a stereo buss...because that's completely different.

I might just blow your mind.

CJ: I went to your site to check it out, you have a lot of very good, valuable information there. I intend on going back and checking out more later. But I thought I would point this typo out to you.

Your not at all being a wise butt.. I appreciate it. Its hard being a bad spelling and building a web site. Im adding stuff daily to it and with my grammer, there is going to be mistakes.
thanx Gambler

Wow!

That's a great reason to try DrumaGog. I used to think it was too much money to spend on just the drummer.

I may try it with "p" as well... not the de-essing of course but all the other stuff.

Thanks for sharing.

best,
mike

It's not so good with just a simple "P".

But it does pretty well with PPFFFFFFTT!

One trick you'll want to try it to sidechain the "ppfffftt" so that it opens up the send on a reverb.  On the reverb, put a LPF down to about 30hz, followed by a compressor set to "stun" and the makeup gain dimed out.

Those extra lowend blasts here and there will make your mastering guy very happy.

My mastering guy uses the K-system... I like to do everything I can to keep him happy.

Thanks.
