misprint? "...produced by USB between October 2005 and April 2005."

oops, erm no. Robots can time travel.

hehe. Hey, can you go back to the junior-high school me and tell him to throw one punch at a bully? It'd make my secondary school years a lot easier.

Hey blipp,

So I get in the door, having just returned from court (jury duty), to find Random Equations decorating my letterbox. Listening now. Don't know if it's the pro mastering or just that it's not a compressed MP3, but it sounds sweet. It sounds alive.

Nice artwork and design also (by the 'one' and ':10:' team). That's certainly something that the MP3 distribution model lacks is any sort of visual presence. I'm sorry, but a 70 x 70 postage stamp on Soundclick is not art. I yearn for the days of double-folding L.P.'s. That was art.

But imagine my surprise when I read the liner notes and saw my name. You could've knocked my over with a feather. I honestly blushed (and no, it wasn't from the Scotch). Thanks blipp.

Cheers for your verdict Bradster (juror #21)

You've always been one of my biggest supporters.

Glad to hear the mastering is getting the thumbs up so far.

As soon as my bank account gets out of the slight hole it's in, I'm going to pick one of these up.

I'm feeling lucky so it should be soon.

Congrats Blipppppppppppp

I have absolutely no doubt that the kudos will continue to roll in...you always do inspiring work. While I don't have a copy yet, I also have no doubt that, considering the calibre of your work, that it will be what all your work has been (at least for me). Which is, an inspiration, you've always made me rethink and redirect my efforts to go in a direction I wouldn't have thought of...and that is art in its truest form.

Cheers wrench, appreciate your comments. glad you like it.

I wanted the album to flow as much as possible so i took quite a long time over choosing the order, so thanks for the confirmation that it works.

I still hav'nt got my copy yet. In fact i hav'nt even had an email to say it's been shipped, but it must have by now....i hope.

Yeh, seems strange why the canadians seem to be waiting so long when it's right next door.

Nice sounding Blipp!

What are your favorite synths to use... or what synths did you use on this compilation? - I especially like the "furry" sounding ones... and REALLY like the "found sound" kind of percussion things (track 3?)

P.S. I'd buy it - but I'm in the middle of audio software "funding mode"...

Thank god for that, i was beginning to think maybe there was a trade embargo on me in canada. Glad you like it orphan, appreciate your comments. Cheers.

Thanks wrench. What was the sound quality like on your car system? That is why i had to get the mastering done properly so hopefully would sound acceptable on whatever it was played on. I just did'nt have the skills or tools to really do a good enough job. I'm surprised myself that the tracks worked so well together. I probably would'nt have even started getting a cd done even now if one had'nt jumped in and offered to do the artwork, so i have that as well to thank him for.

Thanks again to everyone who bought it, i really appreciate it. This has all been so unexpected. This time last year i had no intention to buy software and make music and had never made any music on a pc before. If someone then had said i'd have done all this in a years time i'd have questioned their sanity. This just goes to show that if i can do this, anyone can. Suffice to say, i've given up making predictions.

RE: USB CD now available. 2005/06/08 17:06:59 (permalink)
Cheers grandpa.

Most of the synths are just freeware ones. String theory gets used on about 75% of the tracks (love it) and EZ-Poly gets used quite a lot. I just basically use what sounds good with the rest of the track. I audition loads of patches untill i think it hits the spot.

The majority of the percussion is just velocity. On track 3, the intro beats are done with the SR-202 drum sampler. It's a free vsti that came exclusively with a uk magazine. I use that quite a lot.

Cheers again. btw, i checked out your cd at cdbaby and i liked it a lot, so when funds allow i can see me getting that sometime soon.

YAY! Got mine today!

Blipp this is great!! I'd like to ask you about the mastering. It's REALLY good...the separation is unbelievable and even the placement of sounds in the stereo field is incredible!? Did you do this or was this done in the mastering stage that you had done!?

As the French Canadians might say, "This is TRES good!"
Gonna go play it in my truck on the way to work tomorrow!!

hey thanks DA, glad you like it. It's nice to hear the production getting more kudos. Nice to hear it confirmed i did'nt waste my money.

Auadiomaster prefer that you send in a data cd of the tracks, but with no compression or limiting on the mix, ie, on the main output bus. I had to remix the tracks slightly and remove any compressors or limiters i had on the main output and then re-export them.

This is what they actually did (From the report they sent with the master cd):

1. Digitally transferred from CD 2. Stereo enhancement 3. EQ 4. Compression 5. Limited to-0.2db 6. Starts, ends and fades 7. Dithered to16 bit 44.1khz

If you want anymore info it's probably best to check out their site: http://www.audiomaster.co.uk/

Thanks again for your comments DA, it's appreciated. I hope it makes for an enjoyable truck ride.

All of that should be attributable to blipp's excellent work during the mixing. Mastering should just make all of the tracks consistent for the CD - levels, EQ, etc.

I reckon that EQing was probably the major process they did to get the tracks to sound how they do. I'm just guessing there though.
