How is that flame proof underwear holding up John?

Let me state that you are not wrong. You are indeed quite right. Many threads are pointless, and I find it tedious to wean through them. A whole lot of what some find "funny", is not even remotely so.

But, is that not the point of a coffee house? Is it not better to have it here then to have this sort of thing happen in the more serious forums?

A few years ago, when the CH was shut down, that was indeed the problem. Some of us in the Song forum in particular begged, begged the Mods to restart the CH as the song forum was becoming the dumping ground for all the pointless nonsense.

But outside of the nonsense and horseplay, this is the forum with THE strongest sense of community and brotherhood I have ever participated in. As some pointed out, members here have done great things to help others in need. It is in a few words, a remarkable place in cyperspace.

Why not climb down off the soap box and actually try to relax, have some fun and participate. You will find many who enjoy serious discussions too, who are willing to engage you in whatever you want.

Try to think of it as a real coffee shop... you can participate in one or two conversations at a time, but try to participate in them all and you will go nuts (as witnessed by Bapu). Instead of scolding us across the fence, why not come around it, sit, relax, and have a coffee?

Cheers
Shad

I am flame proof. LOL  I hear you and get your point.  Well taken actually. It seems to me that interesting threads get either moved off the first page or posted to with nonsense. Then when the fun is gone so is the thread.

Clearly its not the only thing that goes on here but It could be so much better.

Thanks for at least understanding what I was saying.

The difference being Shad is NOT complaining.

Well, I have always said: "Shoot the message, not the messenger" (I think Strummy can attest to that). Throwing stones at people is not my style (though I will defend myself).

I think the "noise" level in here is can be viewed as "the price of freedom". In life we very often have to give up a few cherished ideas in order to promote freedom for all. I, too, was a bit irked at the noise level in here back when it was first re-initiated. But, once I settled in, I realize that the depth of this place was not as shallow as it seemed.  It is a small price to pay for a bit more SNL in the other forums, IMHO.

The coffee house is one of a very few light hearted indulgences in my life. I like to think of it as an extended group of good natured and well meaning fools just like me. If the tone gets serious it's likely because somebody has a real problem of greater importance than a dead midi interface.

Keep the serious bollocks upstairs and if you don't like sand, get out of the sandbox.

I can certainly attest to it and try to adhere to it myself.

In fact I was involved in a thread upstairs just today where the message wasn't even mentioned, nay it was outright avoided, among the vitriol that was being thrown about.

Baseless accusations from the OP here about 'tag-teaming' being merely a notable feature.

Well that's an imperfect definition if I ever heard one!

The truth is the problem isn't with perfectionists per se, but just with the imperfect ones.

Of this forum.

I wonder in all the time this forum has been opened anyone has thought about the money and effort put in to it to make this forum possible?

I wonder if it were not free if the inane postings would be so numerous?

I wonder if the idiotic banter that is only humorous to a few would be tolerated if those doing it had to pay for every silly post.

I don't come here much because it is rather depressing to be here any length of time for all the nonsense that permeates most every thread. Ones that might be interesting become a home of buffoonery for no purpose. All this will be on the net in perpetuity.  How sad.

The opportunity to enlighten to have an interchange of ideas and to further our understanding is being stolen by a few that have absolutely nothing to say, none the less, say something anyway.

An occasional funny thread with real humor would be a good thing but the constant droning of inconsequential verbiage makes this place a vacuum.

There I said it. Something I have been thinking for a very long time.

Hi there John,

I wonder if you remember this thread, where you were welcomed back to the forums.

And I am really curious why you want the CH to change. It may look(and is) silly at times, but we care about other forum members here, as Beagle and others have pointed out.

If you think it's sad, you are insulting and hurting a lot of people.

I think the original post indicates that he might like to, but as there are many fine personalities that frequent the place he may just feel a bit intimidated by that and perhaps thinks he somehow just wouldn't belong.

So rather than attempt to join in it's easier to just to dismiss it as being 'beneath' him.

The first thing I read this morning was the OP. It was rather disheartening.
For me, the Coffee House is like Cheers.
Where would that be without Norm, or Cliff, or Dr. Crane?
Many of us were here when Cakewalk first opened the door. You could still smell the paint.
We made it our place. We bonded with people we may never meet.
But some have met,and seeing pictures of those occasions were not of anonymous people on the internet, but friends.
Yes, we get silly, and often the humor is very dry and easily missed.
At the same time, This group has banded together and shown massive support.
I am one of those that Beagle mentioned. The contributions of the Coffee House members resulted in a life changing event for my wife and me.
Beneath the fluff is a fellowship that you just can't touch, and I am immensely proud to be associated with the denizens of the Coffee House.

Cakewalk is obviously to blame for this situation.  Allowing people to post comments in an OFF-TOPIC discussion forum that do not relate specifically to the software is insane.

Furthermore, it's been observed that there may, in fact, be other people on this very same planet!  Some of them, as impossible as it is to believe, have differing opinions from yours.

I know.  It's unbelievable.

They go through their day, acting as though they have a right to think their own thoughts, with no understanding of the severity of their Thought Crime.  How dare they!

There may even be some (I know this sounds implausible) whose primary motivation in life is something other than pleasing you.  I'll wait if you want to grab a tissue.  We may need a moment to process this horrible news.

We can speculate all day about who's to blame, the Government, Cakewalk, a certain someone's parents, but it won't help us deal with the problem.  Perhaps Cakewalk could fix the problem by creating a forum just for you?  All the Bad people could be locked out.  You could post there and never have to read another post you didn't write yourself.

It's the least they could do...
