Are you saying "C" because Mooch is now the Conquistador and you're portraying your linguistic skills at being bilateral?

Cakewalk is obviously to blame for this situation.  Allowing people to post comments in an OFF-TOPIC discussion forum that do not relate specifically to the software is insane.

I've done a quick Strummage (as is my wont) and the bumph that describes this place says: "Discussion of off-topic music related subjects. No politics. No religion. Enjoy!"

So it looks as though we'll all have to report Dr 'John' Goebbels for two extremely serious TOS violation:
  1. The premise of the whole thread has absolutely feck all to do with music, so he's as guilty as sin of that.
  2. It clearly instructs us to "Enjoy" and I'm certain that nobody at all enjoyed reading his ranting and ravings.
Bang to rights m'lud....

I suggest a hefty ban for starters.

And an enormous knacker-strangulating wedgie - I vote that Wookiee gets to mete out this particular punishment. Now that I would definitely "enjoy"

It's been reported that some have attempted to thwart the required "Wookiee Wedgie" process by blissfully going throughout their day sans undershreddies.  While at first, this may seem to be a clever way to outwit the Wookiee, those who may feel so inclined should be aware that he is prepared to loan his victims a "special" loner pair made from barbed wire, broken bottles, and bits of previous occupants.

Enjoy!

I know - I will get a music baton and beat my computer monitor with it and computer.

(Be like Yoda on his planet (Dagabon whatever it is) when Luke goes there and his fighter sinks in the swamp and not knowing Yoda and who he is, Yoda opens up his survival camping equipment and finds a light and R2D2 trys to take it away from him and Yoda starts beating him with a stick on his metal head. "Mine, mine, or help you not I will". Luke says "Oh, let him have it" still depressed about his fighter not knowing he is already talking to Master Jedi Yoda. Yoda saying "Lead you to Yoda I will, soon you will be with Yoda" talking about himself I guess.)

On a different note:
I stick it up my DAW but I ran out of lubricant and I'm not getting any any time soon.

On a side note:
The Internet Sevice Provider was not quite working and you all have taxes to pay probably.

I want to know how people even come across these old threads. Do they have them bookmarked or do they pop up during a search? I have to admit, it scares me the frequency with which I'll do a Google search for some music production related subject and one of my own freaking posts shows up as the first result.

Some context is missing here:

This very thread, unbelievable as it seems, led to a slew of ridiculous events that caused what then was a very different CH - one with a cheerful chemistry among the regulars that cannot ever be explained to anyone that was not here at the time - to disintegrate in a very ugly fashion, leaving hard feelings among many and many others never to return.

Just understand that if you weren't here, you can't possibly really understand. You just can't.

So given that some people's lingering ill will has been associated with John - because this thread turned out to be an Archduke Ferdinand kind of a thing - Steve's point was something along the lines that he might not be the best choice for someone with mod powers and whatnot.

Personally, John has always struck me as a good guy despite any differences we might ever have had, but I'm like that.

There is no explanation or context. All Steve has written here is 'timely bump' on a 2.5 year thread. He then decided to create a new thread to link to it which was a discussion about John. It's pretty clear what the motivations are.

Yes - because he implicitly referenced it in the other thread. Duh.

I already posted my feelings about bringing up an 18 month old thread, but if you're going to criticize the man, you should at least understand the context first. And you don't.

I meant John.

And if he were to concede that his opinions regarding the Coffee House and its regulars have changed since he started this thread, I am happy to allow this matter to die forever.

For what it's worth, I only dragged this thread up so that those who were intimating that my concerns about some of the (potential) forum hosts - in this case John specifically - were misplaced or inaccurate, could actually see him displaying what I consider to be his true colours.

Let me politely make it clear to you - I didn't write the OP to this thread, John did. If there's a time limit beyond which it is forbidden to reply to any particular thread, I haven't heard about it. Furthermore, I'd argue that it is absolutely relevant to the changes in forum management about to take place. Like I say, if John now looks upon the CH in a more charitable light, I'd be more than happy to thank him, apologise for exhuming this thread, and move on.

This thread, as Drew mentioned, caused a lot of grief when it was posted. If John carries these feelings with him into an official role as Forum Host, then I honestly believe it's worthy of discussion.

To be honest Alex, on a purely personal level, this isn't really any of your business. John can take care of himself. We've had our moments over the years, but we get over them and move on.

If, however, your comments carry some 'official' motive or connotation, then I would have appreciated a PM or an email in the first instance.

I might add that it would be greatly appreciated, and certainly more helpful to all concerned, if, when rebuking me in future, you could state if you are doing so on a personal level, or in your official capacity as (potential) Forum Host.

Tom, with all due respect, I think you may be falling into the trap of blaming the messenger here.

In a general sense, if you post your opinions in here, you should really feel obliged to stand by them. If your views change, at least have the decency to say so. At this, I consider myself an old hand - I've said many a daft thing in here, but if I've been inaccurate, or just out of order, I find it much the better option to apologise and hope I haven't done too much damage and can be forgiven.

As I've mentioned to Alex in the post above, I think John's attitude and feelings toward other forum members are absolutely relevant at this point in time.

For a start, how dare you make assumptions as to how I should treat John, or any other veteran for that matter.

When, and how, I pay my respects to those who have served, fought and died for my freedom is absolutely none of your god-damned business.

Furthermore, when did serving ones country entitle anyone to a get-out-of-jail-free card not to be held to account for ones words and deeds?

My comments really weren't solely directed at Steve, but to all of John's detractors on the original thread.

Seemed John was getting no love and that is why I mentioned his military service. Maybe give the man some slack for some of his comments.

Probably a dumb thing to say on my part but it was followed by a typical Steve over-reaction.

Pretty low blow dredging up this two year old thread.

Every Veteran's Day this Coffee House goes out of it's way to thank all veterans for serving their country.

AFAIK John is one of the few Vietnam vets on this forum.
This might be a good time to thank the man or at the very least let by-gones be by-gones.

Thanks John.

 Seriously Tom?

For a start, how dare you make assumptions as to how I should treat John, or any other veteran for that matter.

When, and how, I pay my respects to those who have served, fought and died for my freedom is absolutely none of your god-damned business.

Furthermore, when did serving ones country entitle anyone to a get-out-of-jail-free card not to be held to account for ones words and deeds?

Totally agree with you Steve.
