Under my thumb - stones cover featuring Bapu

Here's a cover by the lovely current Mrs Daryl1968 and I with bass and additional production by my mate Ed Kocol (Bapu)

I started singing it and realised that it really ain't very politically correct so we made it a duet and now, in my opinion,  it makes a lot more sense.

Enjoy and any crits please.

This song is duclimer free however, it came from a studio where dulcimer is regularly used so please beware.

Hi Daryl, this is a song that I've loved since the first time I heard it.  I like your 21st century version.  The way you arranged the vocals is cool.  Now, are you ready for the ultimate 21st century song?  I'm speaking of "21st Century Schizoid Man".  Maybe a bluegrass version, eh?

All the best,
Lynn

Daryl,

Did you wear white socks with black shoes (preferably sandals) while recording just like I did?

regards,
Bapsi

I especially like the bass line that kicks in at the "it's down to me" part. Sounds good. Rock on.

Thanks M@ B.

TBH, it's my fav part too. I will admit I was worried Daryl would think it was "too much".

I kept the verses sparse because I loved Daryl's bass heavy synth line and did not want to cover it up or fight for the same freq. space.

The marimba sounds out of tune.

Shame you didn't try a dulcimer instead.

"and realised that it really ain't very politically correct"

You need to "stand up" for things that are politically correct. I call this being politically erect... You need to involve the Mrs more, she was awesome.

GREAT! everything is GREAT!  Loved how you changed the delivery of the hook.  You and the Mrs. harmony are spot on.  Had a bit of CROWDED HOUSE meets SQUEEZE vibe.  Excellent production/performance.  KUDOS!

cool version of a great standard rocker.  I like the twist with Mrs Daryl singing a bit of it.   Probably more accurate than a guy singing it all.... in his fantasy world.....

Very cool rendition folks, this works much better as a duet. Excellent production too, I like all the sound choices and arrangement..except the 'let's rock 'n roll' bit, that was just..odd.

Ha, we used to play this live, when it was popular.  Uh, oh, that makes me 100 years old.  Oh, well.  This is really a very nice version of the song.  Not being a big cover song guy I was prepared to not like it.  Of course I wouldn't tell you that, LOL!  BUT>>>>> I loved it.  Best version I've heard of this song in 99 years!!  Mrs. Daryl1968 does a very nice job.  Kokol's not bad either  :-)

Ah, yes, and old favorite for me and my late friend and lead guitarist... we used to play and sing this one often.  Very original take on it here with lots of interesting stuff going on.  Well sung, well played, and overall... extremely well done.  Kudos all the way 'round.
