Since the August update, many projects will not load.

I have a feeling it's when there are missing plugins. Sonar freezes after the "Missing Plugins" screen appears.

Interestingly - I have a FaderPort attached, and it goes nuts at the same time. The fader moves up and down very quickly  about an inch, and the mute and solo buttons are flashing.

Thanks for your work!

1 question .... with the new browser and categories settings ... if I have hidden vst2 in preferences should VST 2 versions of Sampletank and UHE software appear?

We can only hide compatible VST2 versions if the VST3 versions of the same plugin advertise compatibility with them. Otherwise SONAR has no way of knowing. Its unlikely that UHE and sampletank do this.

OMG! The CPU usage has dropped drastically! Now the cores are balanced. Amazing!!

Was this improved in this update? I don't see anything from Cakewalk mentioning this important tweak...

There have been several improvements to effects bins in preparation for another feature so its possible that these could have improved performance. We'll talk about it more when the other feature ships :)

This version also immediately crashes on launch on my system.  The 2016.07 release works fine.
I reported the issue on the problem reports forum 4 days ago.
Details here : http://forum.cakewalk.com/201608-build-228028-Immediate-crash-on-launch-m3467801.aspx
nb. I've included the exception details & the callstack to make this as easy as possible to fix.
Hoping for a fix very soon

I like the lanes and comping improvements a lot !

I spend some time last night comping a vox track.  The new tools work well.  The clip fades improvement is very much appreciated.  With the fixes over the last several patches, I can comp much quicker.

Thanks Cake!

Yeah, I think this is a really good update for comping.

Every project I open now shows as 16 bit rather than 24 in the control bar... I'm sure the other features are nice, but would like to know if this issue is real or is just not updating, since I haven't recorded 16 bit since 1998...

You're right, the default is 16 bit, but once you change it to 24 it seems to stay there. On my test recording it indeed was set to 16 bit (CD quality) , but I too would prefer to record at 24 bit. Thanks for bringing this up !!

just updated for the first time in about 3 months, which was the first time i have updated since back around kingston or manchester (switched daw's sometime back) read the reports of performance improvements, took it with a grain of salt but thought i would update and see. seems quite significant improvement going buy the performance meter, and much more evened out across the cores, very impressive. will have a bit more of a look and play

My crash sitation has been resolved with the help of Dave.  There was some corruption to the .NET config files which was causing the problem.  Dave has said that he is now working on a fix to stop Sonar crashing in these circumstances.

Re: SONAR 2016.08 Update Now Available 2016/08/25 23:12:46 (permalink)
I installed the August Platinum update today. None of my synths respond to my sustain pedal. Oxygen keyboard controller display shows the pedal activity. To be sure, I swapped out to another pedal. No other changes to hardware or software - midi synths all worked fine yesterday.

The cute little tray icon blinks as it should with incoming pedal midi data from keyboard controller.

I recorded a test track containing only pedal up / down activity. In Piano Roll view, the controller pane shows that the pedal events were recorded, but the events were assigned to CC:66 - sostenuto. I tried to change it to CC:64 Hold, but when I clicked OK, it reverted back to CC:66.

When I changed the controller data from 66 to 64 in the event view, sustain came to life in tts synth.

Has anyone else encountered this?

Re: SONAR 2016.08 Update Now Available 2016/08/26 09:46:45 (permalink)
Hello,
Update seemed to take longer than usual. One trouble so far is the scan of Vst's when opening Splat. XLN seems to develop a serious error message with long readout of problems. This occurs on all the XLN products. I can move past it, though, and continue scanning. Now I get the message at the end that tells me VST count with .xxxnew 0errors. Kinda confusing. Haven't tried using XLN in project yet. Going to get to that tonight. XLN update says "successful and shows all updated. Don't see where I can get the two new AD paks that I didn't have with Spro. Maybe you could point out how to get the two additional paks.

Hey guys put in the update and lost a whole bunch of my VST's ... Melodyne, ezdrummer e.t.c. got to have em' :(  HELP... If they were loaded before the update, I get a missing message and they are just greyed out on the project.... I tried to roll back to last revision. Kept getting load vst scan error, and a bit bridge error.. So i went back to this last update and still getting the same two errors
UPDATE...had to delete an old VST dll that I really hadn't used in years... It was hanging up the VST rescan...All is well!!!

In Piano Roll view, the controller pane shows that the pedal events were recorded, but the events were assigned to CC:66 - sostenuto.

SONAR just records what the controller sends. I'm guessing that when you swapped pedals, you plugged it into the Sostenuto jack. If your controller has only one pedal jack, it must just be configured to send CC66 - check the Oxygen user manual.

In any case, it's highly doubtful that his has anything to do with the update.

I'm getting the crash too. AFter update, attempting to run SPlat brings up a "do you want to allow faultreporter.exe to make changes to your computer" and when I press "yes" I get a faultreporter.exe has crashed notification followed by a (platinum).exe has crashed notice, followed by a notice that says:
A fatal error has occurred.
Module: c:windows\system32\KERNELBASE.dll
A crash dump file blahblahblah

Rolling back to the previous version and everything works normally again.

My faderport has done this after this and other upgrades when opening existing projects, too. I wiggle the fader, and the project opens, showing me what is hanging - usually some small difference in outputs that I can easily fix. The projects open fine after I re-assign these. Faderport is picky.

I used to have that problem and here's my fix:
Once I set the FaderPort to what I want, I close Sonar and I set TTSSEQ.ini and ctrlsurface.dat to read-only file attributes.
