[Updated] SONAR 2017.06 HotFix (Build 24) Now Available!

SONAR 2017.06 Hotfix (Build 24)

This months release of SONAR had a few issues and we'd like to let you all know that there is now an updated version of the 2017.06 release. This update includes several fixes related to Quick Grouping, an issue with DPI recognition, and a possible crash with comping. You can download this update now through command center. If you don't see the latest update click the gear icon and then click the [Check Now] button.

Fixed in 2017.06 build 24
  • Quick Group color or ProChannel not working as expected
  • Using Speed Comping could cause a crash when picking a section
  • SONAR could display abnormally on some TV displays
  •  Brazilian / Portuguese: Crash when drawing controller data in the Piano Roll view.

SONAR 2017.06 Update

This month’s release for SONAR Artist, Professional and Platinum brings new features along with fixes & enhancements to many key elements of SONAR. Touch support has been improved, it is now possible to comp with Melodyne clips, the Virtual Controller Keyboards have been updated, project handling has been improved upon, velocity audition has been extended to the Piano Roll View's controller pane, and a number of customer reported issues have been resolved. In addition, we're also kicking off Month 2 of our 30th anniversary with 30 new FX chains designed by Craig Anderton and our second edition of Tech + Music. Come celebrate with us!

How to Download the SONAR 2017.06 Update

  1. Open Cakewalk Command Center. If you don’t have the latest installer, Command Center will prompt you to download and install it. Cakewalk highly recommends that you do this. (Also remember that you can always download the latest version from the Cakewalk Command Center page.)
  2. Update SONAR Core by selecting SONAR Platinum/Professional/Artist, then clicking Install.
  3. Update SONAR Local Documentation by selecting it, then clicking Install

* If you don't see the latest update click the gear icon and then click the [Check Now] button

Improved Touch Zooming & Scrolling

Artist, Professional, and Platinum

Zooming into a particular point using touch in SONAR is better than ever before. The 2017.06 update has improved detection of touch points making it smoother and more accurate. Previously zooming with Touch could cause tracks and clips to feel like they were moving away or scrolling unexpectedly. This now feels fluid and much more natural. Touch Zooming now also has improved anchoring of the touch position so making a desired track larger or zooming into a specific drum hit is reliable, intuitive and feels very precise. These enhancements are both available in the Track view and Piano Roll view.

Virtual Controller / Keyboard access

Artist, Professional, and Platinum

The Virtual Controller has now been separated into two view menu items: Computer Keyboard (Alt+0) and Piano Keyboard (ALT+SHIFT+0 ). You can now access either mode directly via menu commands and keyboard shortcuts. Opening of one these and saving will now also save with the project. In addition, when the Virtual Controller Computer Keyboard is open, it no longer blocks R (Record), Delete, or shortcuts that use a modifier. This allows you to open views, access menus, and use any multi-key shortcut such as CTRL+S for Save, CTRL+Z for Undo and CTRL+SHIFT+Z for Redo, etc.

30th Anniversary Modulator FX Chains

Artist, Professional, and Platinum

These 30 FX Chains are based around the Sonitus Modulator, which does flanging, chorusing, tremolo, and as you’ll find out from these presets... a lot more. Learn More

Comping with Melodyne clips

Artist, Professional, and Platinum

Creating the perfect take just got better in SONAR. It is now possible to comp with clips that use Melodyne as well as any other type of Region FX. You can use Melodyne, Drum Replacer, VocalSync and go about comping as you normally would by swiping sections. To use a Region FX, select a section and use the Region FX menu or right-click the clip to use Melodyne or another Region FX.

Velocity change audition in the Piano Roll view Controller pane

Artist, Professional, and Platinum

You can choose to audition changes in MIDI Note velocity as you make them. This has previously only been available in the Piano Roll view Note pane, and is now also available in the Controller pane. To enable velocity audition, go to Edit > Preferences > Customization - Editing and select Velocity Audition.

Improved Project Handling

Artist, Professional, and Platinum

Never wonder again where your files went when you’re in the heat of creativity. As soon as you decide to save a new project, SONAR will create a folder automatically with the appropriate name, and place the project audio and Mix Scenes in it—there’s no need to create a folder beforehand. And, if you later “Save As” or “Save As Copy” in the same location as the current project, SONAR will know this is the original location and not create additional folders—but if you save to a different location, SONAR will intelligently place the project and associated files in a new folder. Now you can spend more time making music—and less time thinking about where to store it.

Sorry to hear that you are not seeing a fix that you wanted to see in this update. Make sure that you've submitted a post to the Problem Reports forum with a recipe of how to recreate the issue. If there are specific plug-ins involved make sure to include details so we can investigate.

That velocity change audition is going to be very useful when a VSTi uses velocity switching.

Please make it more obvious the CCC has completed downloading.
I have to keep looking right up close for the orange bar at the bottom.
A normal popup message box would be visible from across the room.

A normal popup message box would be visible from across the room.

Especially since there are so many other popups during the updates - the more parts you are updating, the more popups.  I you are typing a forum response while this is happening, it will actually interrupt your typing because the popup takes focus.  I'm always afraid I'm going to accidentally cancel something while it's happening.

So, if you are going to use the popups for the progress bars, use them to say you are finished.  If you are going to use the bottom bar of the window for the completed message, why not use it for all of the status updates that are going on.  An while you are at it, since this seems like a cosmetic change - make the messaging on the CCC more prominent.

And - a HUGE thanks to the engineering team and to Seth specifically for addressing two of my long-time reported bugs in the update.  They are FIXED.

Re: SONAR 2017.06 Update - WOW much faster loading 2017/06/30 04:54:16 (permalink)
I just finished installing the update and  WOW did U ever speed up the load time. Haven't had time to test out other stuff but had to make a comment on the improvement to the load time. Yes!
Slow load times have been a problem with hurry up and wait crowd.

I have a Win 10 x64 Pro System lastest auto-update, with an Intel i7 Core 6700K 4.0 chip & 64Gb RAM, Heatpipe cooler with 2x120mm fans, PS- 750 watt Quiet Gold Modular, 4Gb Video with dual monitors, on a ASUS Hero VIII - MB. With a total of 9 controlled fans on the case system runs cool & quiet.  Rack mount: Audio - Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 (with dual headphones and 10 monitors, 5.1 capable) & Regular MIDI - MOTU midi express 128.  System includes: 12 MIDI input controllers (8 USB): 2 -16 touch pads, Maschine Mikro, a 37 note wireless keytar, a Roland Synth, to a full 88 note hammer weighted USB keyboard. 6 Mic's.

System:  28 track stereo simultaneous record: Audio - 8 Mono~16 stereo + MIDI controllers - 12 wav/12 MIDI stereo software driven instruments, with 4 more MIDI controllers will have 16 channel MIDI bringing recordable tracks up to 32. [using one controller to run more than one instrument at a time I have had 96 stereo tracks (combined audio & MIDI) recording at once without any problems]

Even with this power it took multi-minutes to load tracks such as the above mentioned. When I powered this version up the start screen appeared within seconds. press 'Open' folders pop into view, (I save each project in its own folder-with both MIDI & WAV stereo tracks @24/48) click on project name and even a large orchestral 3GB - 16 track stereo recording approx 8 minutes long, and loaded with deluxe  processors from Waves, Nomad, & IK, loaded in under 1.5 minutes (Performance meter - below 10% on all 8 threads) previous, I'd go for a drink of water and sometimes it would have loaded when I returned. Track instruments included: Sampletank 3, Miroslav 2, BFD 3, 2 instances of Kontakt 5 (Action Strikes - Taiko Drums &  Session Horns - 5 pc Brass) all memory hungry software plus some smaller stuff like, AAS - String Studio VS2.

Been with Cakewalk product since Music Creator 2001~home studio 6~Studio 8~to Producer 8, the X series, upgrading to Platinum and to Lifetime. Guess I'm here to stay.

Playback medium is another consideration. At the 2:10 mark I had my cell (Droid Maxx) set at 80% volume on a hard surface (about 1/4" between "stereo" speakers and the table). Where it shifts to "master" is profound to me, and not in a good way. That test (for my phone anyway) is good for both collapsing to mono and checking frequency crossover bands.

I didn't see the comment referenced above, but agree with the preference.

ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero (Wi-Fi AC), i7-8700k, 16GB RAM, GTX-1070Ti, Win 10 Pro, Saffire PRO 24 DSP, A-300 PRO, plus numerous gadgets and gizmos that make or manipulate sound in some way.

Try dropping the mastered version in a playlist, and adjusting levels for the other songs in the playlist. It's a "singles" world, songs no longer exist in isolation, and this is a reality mastering engineers cannot ignore.

Playback was tested on several emulations of "real-world" playback media via Audiffied's Mixchecker. With people listening on everything from $1 earbuds, to laptop speakers, to tablets, to smart phones, there is no way to create a master that will sound as intended on all media. The object is to minimize the tradeoffs.

When I recently mastered the solo CD for Bryan Ferry's lead guitarist, his main concern was that it would sound good over headphones, because he believed that's how the majority of people would hear it. He's probably right.

2 bugs:
1、After update to 201706,press Ctrl and change color of the seletect tracks are unavailable.
2、When using ripple editing, unsing undo and redo editing midi in PRV sometimes result in overlaping notes and extra notes(which is not written by me).

1. It works if the tracks are selected, e.g., Smart Swipe the tracks you want to color, hold Ctrl, and any color you select for any track will affect all selected tracks.
2. According to the eZine: "Note that Ripple Editing is designed to work in Track View, not Piano Roll View." See if doing redo/undo while in Track View solves the problem.

Quick grouping of color selection in both Track view and Console view stopped working on my system with [2017.06].  Tried both Mercury and Tungsten themes.  Rolling back to [2017.05] solves the problem.

This thread contains other user confirmations of the problem:  http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3625048
