When you're a new member and folks don't know you from Adam, it's maybe not the best time to say things tongue in cheek and not explain it.
I hope the bakers don't take those comments to heart.

The OP looks serious to me, but I don't understand the gripe. As promised, the calendar said "October" when the update arrived. Since when does someone deserve criticism for living up to their word? Seems like needless negativity and a total waste of time. Thanks for starting the thread, though. It gives the rest of us a chance to say we're very happy with Cakewalk. I look at it this way: The bakers could have issued an update on October 21, but waiting until the 31st meant they would have a few more days to make sure everything was good and maybe even add in a few more fixes.

Andrew Rossa [Cakewalk] And this thread is just another example of the reason we sometimes are hesitant to share information and put down exact dates. Software is not like hardware, where you put it in production months before. We try to get these updates out as quickly as possible with the max amount of fixes. Therefore there's always a chance things could slip a few days.
Don't be hesitant to let us know your plans. After all, they're plans, which are different from blood oaths sworn on the graves of ancestors. I think there's only one person here who hasn't quite figured that out. However, if the person who started this thread has never been late for any appointment, ever, then he has a right to complain. Oh wait...X3c wasn't late, it showed up at the end of October. Never mind.

Yeah, almost unbelievable ... and that opening line really got me "I really hope I speak for the bulk of the Sonar Community when I express this sentiment..." I just don't get that at all - why would he hope he's speaking for the bulk of us ?. Now ... if he'd had something positive to say, then maybe he would. The rest of the thread shines though :-) Cheers - Cliff

Completely grateful for the X3c release. It arrived exactly when we were told it would. I don't know why some people expect everything to happen when it is convenient for them. A huge thank you to the Cakewalk team for constantly supporting us and X3 with frequent patches. You are doing an awesome job!

Well, you asked... I think they did just fine. When you get the bill on the 1st and it gets paid on the absolute last day before it's late, is it late or on time? They said October. What part of the 31st isn't October to you?

Mr 5strings - what would you rather have - an early release that's half baked or an on time one which is fully baked? I'm with the majority here, you don't speak for me & kudos to Cakewalk for not only issuing these timely updates but also for letting the community know roughly when they're going to appear.

classic example of the fact that no matter how you proceed, there will always be someone complaining. if they don't literally announce every move they make they are "secretive" and we are kept in the dark. If they drop a clue or update on development they are nagged about exact date. If they release by exact date and there are bugs and there are always some bugs in every software) then "you should have waited and got it right". Some people just are not happy if they are not complaining. When you complain that someone delivered something in the time frame they gave, even if it is towards latter part of range, you seriously need a hobby. or a hug.

Well I will chime in here.... Sonar has been a long process of updates and fixes, and such since ,...?...well since its creation...And I bought in at X1, and paid for 2x with some updates and problems not solved, and then x3b...for more updates....fixes and such...How could it be released with some of these problems as stable?.. or working correctly, if it has to be updated and fixed continually?....Not that I am complaining...as I have done some work with it, although light use...It works for me...as it is, with some issues , probably device driver related ...but if I dive in, and start using the more complex features and plugins and soft synths....Well as we all have read, there are issues with some systems!...and thus the fixes...which I believe should have been R&D out before releasing it as X3.... As I have seen this with AVID, and other DAWS...over the years....it cost us users plenty over time. Now...I know Cakewalk means well, and wants to get that fan base up in moral spirits....No DAW is Perfect yet..(cause I bought em all)..and this has been carrying on since PC and Macs have been in service.....When is it going to be rock solid?....The answer my friends, is blowing in the wind...it seems....as no standard stays standard for long....even with devices. So onwards and backwards seems to be the order of the times....Shrubberies and Mead for all....and a wink wink, nudge nudge, Know what I mean, say no more...stands as is. I am still seeing issues posted, that have not been addressed by the patch rendition of X3C, and some stated that still remain unfixed...So I imagine they could have tested and resolved, waited to address more issues, and be late with the promise...But sought to fulfill a promise of time released minimums instead!....Thanks to honesty and valour and ethics...Cakewalk is pretty Good on their word....Blessing and merriment round the table, for the next update path! I hope forgiveness and or good will prevail over our heads, for the continually coming blessings! and my wish for MP3 inclusion for the next "Producer" upgrade paid issue. Sir Les

My complaint is that when I play back my tracks, it sounds almost as if I have played some wrong notes. If SONAR were any good, it would correct that automatically. The windows in my music room are dirty, and I have been waiting for months for somebody from Cakewalk to show up and clean them. Nothing! And you call that service? And my car could use an oil change. Cakewalk? Are you listening?

mr5strings, I really hope you were kidding and that just didn't come through. I run a 45 person software company. If a company promises a release in a given month, ALWAYS assume the last day of the month. If they actually ship it in the month they promise, they should be commended, not condemned. seriously. Cake, I was a bit miffed over the quality and stability of X2 and vocalized that a bit (though not too much because I've worn your shoes :)). You guys have done a GREAT job with X3 and the quick updates. Well done!

Andrew Rossa [Cakewalk And this thread is just another example of the reason we sometimes are hesitant to share information and put down exact dates. Software is not like hardware, where you put it in production months before. We try to get these updates out as quickly as possible with the max amount of fixes. Therefore there's always a chance things could slip a few days. Andrew, please don't let stuff like this alter your way of thinking. You guys are in the same boat as we that release CD's if you think about it. You may get 500 reviews saying how much you're loved and appreciated, and then 10 come out of the woodwork and tell you how bad you are, your service sucks and you guys are ripping people off. The bad reviews (even if they are VERY few) always seem to over-shadow the loads of great reviews. I've always hated that part of the entertainment business. :( I'm blown away that you guys have resumed being on here like the old days while keeping us informed. If 50-100 people on this forum were to bash on you, remember there are thousands of us that love and appreciate what you guys are doing right now. I'm seeing Bakers pop up all over this forum attempting to help users....I'd be willing to bet PM's are flying all over the forum trying to help people as well, and these patches are coming out faster than ever before. We may not be in a perfect position yet with this release, but I think we have come leaps and bounds from where we've been in the past. Some people may say "well things like this weren't the case with 8.0 and 8.5!" We also didn't have as much going on with them as we do here. Not to mention the whole new plugin thing....we just have to have a little patience. I think it's much easier for the majority of us to swallow knowing you guys are here where we can blatantly see you and we know you're working on fixes. I know it can't always be that way, but just know that the majority of us do appreciate that form of communication over the silence we've gotten in the past. Hopefully you and the other Bakers can just shrug posts like these off and continue to keep your moral high while interacting with us to make Sonar the DAW that we all know it can be. Thank you for everything...please keep up the great work and continue to update us even if timelines wind up being off by a lot. -Danny
