Hi Nigel, To my ears, the acid-test for a reverb is auditioning with acoustic drumkit. If there are any nasty/bad sounding artifacts, it's super easy to hear. Few software reverbs sound anywhere close to on-par with Phoenix Verb in this regard. It sounds exactly like you'd expect... given Michael Carnes hardware reverb resume. While it's not an inexpensive plugin, it's certainly worth the asking price. The way I justified it: I'd rather have a single more expensive (sounding) reverb than several less expensive plugins that sound pretty good. No more expensive when viewed in that light...

Sharp percussive sounds are my acid test for reverbs: triangles, tambourines, claves, stuff like that.

Jim Roseberry Phoenix Verb is something special. It's absolutely the best algorithmic reverb plugin that I've heard. Super smooth... even when auditioned on drum-kit. Has that higher-end Lexicon ability to envelope the sound... without sounding artificial or losing clarity. At $200 it's not cheap, but it's the last reverb plugin I'll be buying for a LONG time.
Jim -- Have you compared it to the Flux/IrCam Verb Session? I got a similar vibe with that. And a better GUI (imo). But I haven't tested them yet. iLok2 on order. The other 2 I'm considering are: - 2CAudio B2 - upcoming release of the new AirEQ (Eiosis revamped)

PhoenixVerb+ R2 update v1.4 | Exponential Audio
2013/10/05 11:20:39
(permalink)
10/5 updated V1.4 PhoenixVerb: - Changed the way factory presets are loaded and managed. Startup is now much faster.
- Cleared up some problems in deleting and managing user presets.
- Fixed a minor issue that caused the wrong button to display in the preset editor.
- A few factory presets had been stored with Mix at a different value from 100%. That has been corrected.
- A few efficiency gains and speedups.
- Slightly smoother drawing of the realtime frequency display
- Eliminated some ticks from program change
- New memory clearing logic (for relocating) is spread out and less 'lumpy' in terms of processor requirements.
- Fixed mono->stereo bypass.
- The binary is now 'wrapped' so that license codes can be entered directly.
- Added several presets--Plates and Chambers, a handful of large halls and churches. Percussion halls.

Version 1.4.06 for PhoenixVerb and R2 Exponential Audio is happy to announce the immediate availability of Version 1.4.06 of its PhoenixVerb and R2 plugins. It is available at no charge to all licensed users (including demo licenses). This update addresses these main issues: - Startup noises at 88.2K and above
- The non-appearing GUI in some hosts like VePro and Wavelab
- A solution to crashes in StudioOne (Mac).
- General stability
- Small performance improvements

Same here. It pushes it hard and lets you hear the tails clearly. Any BFD users think that the included Breverb is really bad on drums/percussion? I like it on other things but it sounds harsh and unnatural on percussion to my ears. I d like to give Phoenix Verb a try.

So where's the download? I got trapped in a circle. Do I redeem the demo code then get a link to the install? I FOUND IT, just a DA moment on my part... Tom
