Very Strange Forum Question.
I never listen to CD's on my laptop, but this afternoon I burned an album I recently finished to CD and I wanted to listen to it while lurking in the forums. I know this sounds crazy, but I can duplicate what's happening ... stay with me ... My net connection isn't the greatest and sometimes it hangs and gives me time to read all the background crap that is going on while surfing the net, especially on the forums here. In the bottom left corner of Firefox it will say, "read forum.cakewalk.com" for example. The CD I burned has 12 tracks. During the last track when surfing the forums the CD pauses, and Firefox hangs on the message, "read www.kvraudio.com". I play another track, everything is fine. I go to track 12, let it play, surf the forums, and it pauses and I see "read www.kvraudio.com" again. I never leave http://forum.cakewalk.com but it says it's reading kvraudio.com. I've never even heard of that web site so I went to it and it's some kind of audio plugin review site. Does anyone have any idea what in the hell could be causing that? It's the strangest thing I've ever seen. No I'm not drunk, or on any meds. Heh. Ideas, anyone?

Maybe its the computers way of telling you that you should use some KVRaudio plugs for mastering the CD? IDK... I never heard of that happening before. I have heard of the KVR site, and have loaded a few of the freebies there .... mostly back in the day. All I can guess is that since it's a lappy, likely with a touch pad for mouse and clicks.... while listening to the CD you touched the pad and the computer... a bit confused with all the things going on, interpreted it as being a click on the KVR site and took you there. Now if this happened and you were not touching the computer at all.... ????

Some CD ripping software goes out to find the CD track info using the CD id as reference. Or the CD could be an extended CD with extra content. But you burned the CD on your system? A plug in might have added some link? Maybe a enhancement to you CD playing/burning software? This seems weird. Good Luck. best regards mike

Clearly some hidden code in your burning software I'd say. The indication that it tryed to access the kvr site, where ever the hidden code is, is a really bad thing. I'd see if it does it on other machines that aren't online to see if it trys to access your browser.

kvraudio is not a malicious site though. i read the forums there quite a bit, and they are quite informative, especially about group buys and special offers. kvr also host the official forums for a lot of small software companies, for example Sonic Reality and FXpansion. Maybe you own a plug-in trying to call home?! i dunno, weird behaviour though.

Have you tried to scan the computer for anything? I'm thinking something added something to a piece somewhere.... That is definitely odd...

Tracking cookie.................... Malicious or not I hate 'em........... Burns up resources on older pc's......... MAY LEAD........ indirectly to some bad code elsewhere..............as in.......... Someone may tag along with them.............bam.......... they got you!! Run a spyware scan and see if you can dump it................. I personally don't believe in friendly spyware................it just opens other doors.

Hooray! We've been upgraded from Strange to Very Strange. Sorry. Couldn't resist. Too many bad influences on this forum.

Yeah, this is a really strange thing happening. I don't have DAW software on my laptop, it's way too old to run anything. I used Sony CD Architect 5.0 to burn the CD and works fine in my DAW PC. Must be something with the laptop. I'll try clearing all the history, cache, cookies, and that stuff.
