Interesting sim, but after hearing some of Jerry's work on his band's website, I might have to pick up a CD - his group sounds very tight!
Time for all of you to head over to Beyond My DAW!

Posted this upstairs as well but for those who've purchased S-Gear it appears that when you reopen a project that has instances of S-Gear in it you'll have to (track by track) open and close the S-Gear GUI before it will play. At least that's what mine is doing.

Ive only given it about an hour, but have to admit I'm pretty impressed...I even like a number of presets (which is a rarity). My only concern is that, although you can deactivate and reactivate the license (on two machines)...which is good, it seems that if your drive suddenly dies (or some other catastrophic event) they will NOT give you any new codes. And, the agreement says they can take away the ability to de/re-activate at any time. (Not saying they WILL...but with no additional codes granted, that could be a problem). But still...sounds pretty darn good. Will give it some more time this evening.

Well I've talked to Mike and he seems like a really good guy...plus he's a simple "mom and pop" operation...so I don't think there will ever be a problem with getting new licenses. Plus one thing I alerted him to he's already fixed and will release a new update shortly...now that's service!!

Well, after playing around with it for a few days now, I think I'm going to put my concerns aside, and pay the man. It doesn't have as many options as Amplitube or Guitar Rig, but what it does, it does quite well. (And, it's actually not at a bad price point) On a side note...anyone know if the new version of Shred by AcmeBarGig is still coming out anytime soon? I thought it was supposed to be out by now. (Unless I missed it)

It's a very good emulator. One of things I've noticed about it (and I'll alert Mike to as well) is that if you "freeze" any track that has S-Gear on it or export a mix which contains track(s) of S-Gear it takes a very long time to render the audio before Sonar will freeze or export. But... it's still worth it IMHO. EDIT: Well, that's only happened in two projects now...in others it works fine. Might not be S-Gear...but that IS what is taking so long to render...when it does. HMMM.

32 bit not 64 bit vst? Does it play well with bitbridge?

Just noticed that it is 32bit vst not 64bit. Does it play well with bitbridge and/or Jbridge? From Scuffham Amps Product page: Supported Operating Systems: - Windows 7 (32 bit or 64 bit) - Windows Vista (32 bit or 64 bit) - Windows XP (SP2 or later) Currently all S-Gear builds are 32 bit compiled code. I understand there is a new release that has midi control and a few stability fixes. See the Scuffham site if interested

At least that's what mine is doing. I can confirm that the new 1.02 update has fixed this issue! Didn't get to trying to freeze/export while I was on 1.01, but I don't think freezing/exporting takes unreasonably long with 1.02 on my system, and mine's way inferior to yours Ol' Pal! Still lovin' Scuffham S-Gear! - Sven

Even more impressive than the comments I'm reading sounds like the service! You found something and they've already fixed it? Wow... I don't need a guitar amp sim, but I'll definitely keep a note about these guys. Great customer service is (unfortunately) such a rarity these days.

craigb I don't need a guitar amp sim Fire up the demo. You might change your mind. Besides, I don't need 47 terabytes of drum samples, but that doesn't stop me from pulling out the card when something new tickles my fancy...

Well, I'm currently happy with the "real" amp sounds I can make I guess is what I meant! (Now if I was using someone else's card, I'd probably own 47 TB of samples too! )
