It's been one of the best efforts that Cakewalk have made in responding extremely well to requests for informative media, both via blogging and video, since the release of X1. The information has gone from short feature blurbs with previous releases to useful and in depth content and techniques which has certainly, at least in my case, made me a much happier customer and has proven useful in showing others Cakewalk's customer focused side and not just express Sonar's functions in a bullet point lists of features. Keep up the great work.

When I do as you outlined the small icon appear once you already have the large one inserted. Great video Seth and FREE. harpman58 Great video, my hats off to Brandon and Seth. I do have a quick question on the video. I noticed on this video that the instrument icon is next to the track # on the first line. I've made the track icons small and they appear on the second line. The icon next to the track # on the first line appears to be a midi/piano icon. It doesn't matter whether they are grouped (i.e. SD3 midi group) or stand-alone track. When I go to view -> Icons -> Track View, I have "Show Icons", "Small Icons", "Show in Header" and "Show in Strip" all checked. How do I get the view like the video?

Congratulatons. You have successfully produced an X2 video that will not only help your users get up to speed very quickly, but will also legitimize Sonar to many who don't currently use the program. To me, the ultimate recording program is one that facilitates my creative side, while not forcing me to use my "Left Brain" too much. The improvements present in X2 make it easier than ever to create music, without getting bogged down in the manipulation of the program itself. Pretty much everything featured in the video will make my life easier. I was going to wait until later to upgrade from X1 to X2, but not now. Your video was just what I needed. Thanks.

I think this is an excellent example of listening to your users and learning from past mistakes. The X1 rollout seemed to leave a lot of us with a kinda "what tha...?" attitude, because everything had moved and there were few clues about where it went. Having this video available within the first couple days of release was very refreshing. It made everything make sense a lot earlier.

I agree with all the positive sentiments here. I know that with X1 many, many users had no idea how a BUNCH of the new features worked and were turned off because of it. This kind of video should be mandatory as was suggested above. And Seth do NOT minimize the importance of videos JUST like this. It builds good will, it informs the users of new features, and shows that the bakers are listening to the user base.

Thanks for the video Seth. Quick clarification regarding copying, especially in PRV, but also in track view:- once I've selected a range of notes, I wanted to do a drag copy by holding down CTRL and pulling it via mouse in a standard Windows fashion. I don't think this works. Am I right in saying that I need to select copy, then move the Now Time to where I wanted to drop, then select paste?

SGodfrey once I've selected a range of notes, I wanted to do a drag copy by holding down CTRL and pulling it via mouse in a standard Windows fashion. This method still works and is my preferred way of copying notes in PRV Edit:- This is a direct quote from the X2 Reference Guide, Page 136 Copying notes To copy notes: 1. Press and hold the CTRL key down while you click the desired note(s). 2. While still holding the CTRL key and the left mouse button, drag the note(s) to the desired location, then release the mouse button. The note(s) is copied.

Go to realplayer.com and download realplayer basic, it is free. It will somehow add a add on to your IE. Go to youtube and play the beginning of the video. When you mouse over the top right corner of the video a blue download option box will appear. Enjoy!

I wanted to echo all of the compliments before my post, I agree with them all. Great video, great content, great improvements in X2. Thanks Seth (and Brandon?) for the video. Thanks also to all of the Cakewalk/Sonar developers/programers who worked so hard in the background to make X2 what it is. Lastly, I also would like to be able to download the video and watch it offline after I upgrade to X2. ~Greg.

Well, Where to begin? First off, major thanks to everyone who watched and a special thanks to those of you leaving comments. The positive reaction to this video has been overwhelming and you can believe we are taking it to heart. Definitely expect to see not only videos of this style for future releases of SONAR, but also in the near future covering other various topics of X2. I noticed a few questions in the many posts in this thread and I'll do my best to answer them below. If I missed anything or left anyone out, please don't hesitate to ask again. - Yes, that is my voice over in the video.
 - Ctrl + C/ Ctrl + V is indeed how to copy paste MIDI notes, automation, clips, etc. Or you can Ctrl + drag. The behavior is the same as long as you're using the Smart Tool. Other tools may or may not allow you to Ctrl + drag to cop (honestly, I don't know since I only use the Smart Tool for those functions).
- Someone in another thread (possibly about the webinar) commented about my 49ers t-shirt. Being born and raised in San Francisco, it is my birthright to be a 'Niners fan, and I don't see that changing any time in the near or distant future.

Awesome video. Very informative. Regarding take lanes, it is still a bit muddy .... I was hoping to be able to record multiple takes of _many_ tracks and have some take selection widget that would solo/mute automatically things not associated with each take. Right now I work around this by just doing my takes end to end linearly and capture my whole band at once.

IOW, I record many tracks at once for each take. Sometimes as many as 16 to 20 at once. I'd love to be able to select a high level "take 4" from a take widget and have all "take four" clips soloed each each track and the others muted. That would save me a lot of time from a workflow perspective.

Finally!! great video and extremely informative. As someone who jumped ship once X1 came out and moved to Pro Tools, I'd pretty much given up on Sonar. I have to say, that X2 appears to be a pretty amazing upgrade mostly because of the excellent editing features which are now available, and a much improved workflow. I think Cakewalk really listened to it's customers, and did a lot of thinking on top of that and I'm certainly going to get it and give this DAW one more chance. Being both a Logic user and Pro Tools 10 user I have to say that Sonar X2 has many of the features these other programs have but with it's simplicity of use, I'm very impressed by what I've seen in the video. The other thing which wasn't in the video was that the audio engine has been tightened up, and I'm definitely looking forward to checking this out. This is definitely a big step in the right direction, and can't wait to try it. Cheers
