I don't think there is that much danger of people using their mod powers to delete posts they disagree with. Only way I see that happening is if they give larry power to ban ikm. Jk seriously though, I think the more likely scenario is the mods ignoring improper posts by people they like...and again, this leads to status quo. Not seeing the big deal.

Assuming that the person on the other end is objective and impartial and does not misconstrue what you say because of their personal bias, that is. But that never happens.

Just a few years ago this forum was jumping. More members, reflected a variety of opinions and although volatile at times, this forum was vibrant and in my opinion a better forum.

If we have to filter and edit everything we write (because of that one person who might be offended) this will be a ghost town.

Is there a joke that won't be offensive to someone?

How can you say anything of consequence without the possibility of offending someone?

No matter the good intentions of the eventual forum member mods this is going to be divisive.

The less people policing the forums the better.

These are all excellent points and precisely the questions we are trying to find answers for on the committee.
Whether we'll ever find a joke that is not offensive to anyone is a hard one to call, but we're doing our best to sort everything else to make the forums a better place for everyone.

Please remember though, the new hosts will not be "moderators" in the way other forums have moderators. We're trying to do as little of that as possible. It will be more of a house keeping role.

So, reading between the lines here, I'm guessing that the forum host will be expected to form subjective opinions on the words and actions of the rest of us? Even if in practice that means little more than passing such opinions higher up the food chain?
 
May I therefore politely suggest that all forum hosts should now be expected to conduct themselves in an exemplary manner? Indeed, their forum activity should be held to a higher standard than those they sit in judgement over. And if that is the case, then I'd (again politely - have to be careful what I say now, don't I) suggest that, in my honest opinion, one or more of the current appointments make an absolute mockery of this.
 
I'd also wish to formally call for the closing of the ridiculous FSF - it's become an embarrassment to this forum, and the willing participation of forum hosts on it brings their position into disrepute.
 
Furthermore, may I suggest that forum hosts refrain from any form of hypocrisy and double standards, and it goes without saying that all forum hosts should go out of their way to ensure they never fall foul of the Forum Terms Of Service in future (or should I say, some of you should not continue to flagrantly contravene the TOS).
 
And just out of interest, are the forum hosts still allowed to express any opinions about Cakewalk's products and modus operandi in public on these forums? For instance, should you deem X4 to be a waste of money and a useless piece of software, can you say so? Publicly? Or are you expected to smile through gritted teeth and say it's absolutely wonderful? Or just keep quiet? If so, then I reckon that whatever privilege and esteem comes with the job is a high price to pay.
 
Anyway, I'd better call it quits at this point before I say something I'll likely regret.
