BassDaddy eBOOK is the future and the future is now so get use to them. I do love having a book though. The tablet , at least, lays flat on the desk so that's a plus. I had always hoped to see a looseleaf binder with updates to put in when available but looks doubtful. I would have paid a good amount for that and updates.
Hi Randy... yeah, I like being able to reference my collection of eBooks from pretty much anywhere... PC, laptop, tablet, and even my smartphone for quick reference. Unfortunately, it's difficult and expensive to publish in non-standard formats. I don't remember the last time I saw a book available in looseleaf binder format. Thanks! I would think that a printed version would be the most popular. I take the older books I have along to read on long trips when it would use up too much of my phones's battery. That is the thing if your really like sitting down and reading it is far more easy on the eyes to use print than a laptop or android device. That being said having both included in a bundle would be nice. If updates could be printed off with all the picture content in a separate document to save on ink and just page references in the secondary document that would be nice to do as well. That way we can use the computer to see the pictures while reading the print versions that we print off. Videos would be cool as well.

I don't think we will see another printed book. With the new Cakewalk model a hard copy book will be outdated before it hits the streets. A casualty of "progress".

I still want both versions. The print option allows me to have a copy when I wait for my wife in the car, or have to sit on the washing machine when it wobbles, or take it outside to enjoy the weather. I don't have any tablets, or smart phones .... don't make enough calls to justify that! LOL Michael

Definitely agree to the above sentiments. Having (or ability to print) a hard copy has gotten lost in technology. Easier to read, carry, markup, etc. Every time I write on, dog ear or use my monitor as a coaster I end up needing a new monitor for some reason.

I think the best we can hope for is that Cakewalk will improve the help files and indexing. It takes time for a book to be published and distributed and that makes it unable to be be current.

+1 to E books. Our family has had the Kobo's and a few Kindle's since they first came out. We now have the Glow versions which are great because they are backlit so you can read in bed with the lights out. As you get older that back lite and you can make the font huge is a big plus. I prefer the dedicated e reader over a tablet because they are optimized and the batteries last over a week. They start at $50 That's not much to pay for what can become 1,000's of books. Much lighter on your lap too. I still read real books from time to time and I now find the print too small and they are hard to hold on to.

Yes, I forgot about that. Ebooks allow you to customize your reading experience... change the font, the font size, the color of the page, etc. You can also tap on a word to get the definition, add bookmarks, etc. Scott -- Scott R. I have the X3 Power ebook. The search function is great. Always used the printed version for past Cakewalk Sonar editions. I've always loved books, but definitely will stay e-book only going forward. Except maybe for cheap paperback novels. It's amazing how many books you can shove into a tablet or laptop and it doesn't get any heavier

While ebooks are nice, they may not be everything the PR guys have lead us to believe. There are some serious questions and ongoing research about how much we retain when reading via ebook versus a traditional hard-copy book. Some of the articles on this subject can be found at: That being said, I have a Kindle and before that a Nook. I like both of them, and do a bit of reading on it. However, I can attest to the issue of memory retention. When I went back to school, I rented a chemistry ebook. It was cheaper, and as many have said, it has the search function. However, it was the worst thing for completing my school work. I found it hard to remember information, having to read the same material over and over to get it to 'stick'. And while the search function sounds good, it is useless when you get back 2000+ hits. It was the last time I used an ebook as a text book. Which begs the question, if we are using ebooks for reference materials and learning new skills (such as Scott's book), are we going to have more frustration if we don't retain the material as readily? This is nothing against Scott, as the publishers are pushing the ebooks as hard as anyone for financial reasons. But I'm not so sure that hard-copy books are on death's doorstep. The sale of tablets/e-readers has dropped dramatically (just ask Apple about their sales of iPads). Even Amazon offers publishers the ability to create hard-copy books as well as ebooks from the same source material (through CreateSpace - https://www.createspace.com/). Again, I would discount the hard-copy book yet. There is a reason why a significant number of folks want the option to print-out material, etc.

great twist! it's long been established that reading stuff on screen is not like reading off paper! ebooks give us the search thing, which is fantastic for reference material, but once you need to read more than about 500 words, paper wins (sorry trees for al the stuff i've printed) and kindle > ipad/tablet if you have to use a screen

Yup Scott, sure do!!! Years ago at work I faced a wall of tech manuals that covered the system we supported. Each manual weighed about 10 pounds in it's binder. Just the index alone required several volumes. It seemed like it could take hours just to look up something. This was way back before the interwebs thingy and Google search engines. The Jurassic era of technology, LOL! Fast forward a few years later and the vendor issued a CD-ROM version of the tech manuals, that contained everything on one disk, and it was searchable. Wow! That was a life changer, so yes, I have been a believer ever since. Just waiting for the rest of the world to catch up But I will add that a hyperlinked index in the ebook is also useful, as compared with a regular printed book index.

That's true. I forgot about that as well. With eBooks you can include hyperlinks right there in the text and all readers need to do is tap (or click) the link. No need to type in a URL from print. Personally, a large percentage of my reading is electronic these days and I haven't seen any difference with retaining information. I'm not saying it's not true... it could be for some people, but I haven't seen it myself. Scott -- Scott R.
