After the most recent update Electric 88 is too loud. In fact, the sound in peaking almost with every factory preset often causing unwanted distortion. This had not happened before the update nor does it occur to the Wurli200, which works fine. Anyone else experience this?

I'm pretty sure it upgraded me when I got the two bundle upgrades yesterday from Koby. Will check as to anomalies.

You don't need an active WUP to get these updates. You just need a license for version 9 of the plugin. When they start shipping version 10 plugins is when you'll need a valid WUP, otherwise you will be stuck on the last/final version 9. Which this "update" may very well be.

Sorry but that is not what the Support site says. You have to have a current WUP to update. Whether it's a point or full update it's still got to be covered by a WUP. Here's a link: http://www.waves.com/supp...date-to-latest-version

WUP is usually only required if/when a new product is introduced into a bundle (or a major version upgrade is released as previously stated).

That page is more about buying/licensing an update not necessarily getting a minor version update or reinstalling. Yes the site is a bit vague on the actual details, perhaps on purpose. WUP is more about support and product level changes (new things added to bundles, new major versions). For example when Element 2.0 shipped you needed a active WUP (or a WUP on a bundle that included Element) in order to get it. But once you have a license all the minor updates have always been included. Their licensing system isn't fine-grained enough to be able to prevent you from running the slightly newer stuff (my guess). And yes it's confusing. With the addition to the update feature in Waves Central you can finally see updates to single products and get them applied. Before it required just reinstalling everything to be sure you had the most recent version you were licensed to use. When they do start shipping Version 10 plugins though, everything changes. WUP comes in to play and the web will light up like the 4th of July with complaints. And it will go on for years. There are a handful of v7 and v8 hold outs that every now and then complain even now. Waves has vastly expanded their user base since then. V10 WUP posts will go to infinity. Also important to point out, the price of WUP changes (the more out of WUP you are, the more it costs up to a max point). And you can purchase WUP from re-sellers (at a discount). They also run sales on WUP (which you can also get from re-sellers). You only need WUP for a few limited reasons (need email support/bundle changes/major version upgrades/you want to re-sell your license). They market WUP as more of a necessary on-going support cost, without ever being very clear on why most people don't need it. Part of me wishes they never ship v10, ever.

I have updated Waves Central and it basically lists pending updates for the entire suite of plugs I own. Yet, the release news mention only changes that don't affect me. Hence I won't update as I have zero issues with WAVES and why fix something that is not broken. As regards V10: if they go for it, they go without me. happy with what I got, spent enough already ...

It's usually more of "compatibility" thing and sometimes bundles and such get new plugins added, and there are interface updates, etc...
Just "depends" ...but I do believe version 10 is in the wind...if you look at the info in Waves Central there is thing about "version 9 or 10"...so somewhere down the road is V10...but who knows when...

For Gold, the jump from 8 to 9 was pretty big. They added V comp and the V Eq's. Along the way H-Delay and Vitamin got added. I haven't wupped in awhile. Rocky

While this most certainly is true, if the UI is "User Friendly" and more appealing, you WILL be more inclined to work better and faster... Take Fabfilter...they not only have SPECTACULAR sound, but the interfaces are SPECTACULAR, and that makes the experience "More enjoyable"...at least for most. Some will argue till the cows come home...but the proof is in the "putting"...as FF has proved...
