Waves GTR3 - 64bit and Midi Support in X1 ?

Hi folks,

can anyone tell me whether;

1) The Waves GTR3 plugin is 64bit or not ?

2)  Whether or not there is any problem with midi support under X1/64 ?.
The Waves site says this about Sonar 8.5 and X1  ... "No Midi Support"

3)  Any gotchas I should be aware of if I shell out and grab it to run under X1/64.

The Waves site doesn't seem that user friendly, so I've been havin a bit of a struggle trying to sus it all out.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers - Cliff

None of the Waves plugins are 64bit. I've seen mixed responses as to whether they can be bridged or not. Some claim to have no problems bridging them and some say they don't work. I'm guessing that it varies depending on which Waves plugs you're trying to bridge.

    Thanks Blade,

I suspected that might be the case.

I've seen other posts where it seems some people are using GTR3 successfully, while others are having a real struggle with it.

I've been searching like crazy, kind of hoping that Waves would be in the 64 bit world by now ... but no.

In my search I found this thread here: Overloud TH2

Post #36 recommends checking out "Overloud TH2" from Overloud.com - checked some demos, it's 64bit native and there are
plenty of demos on the web ... it sounds amazing and I'm downloading the demo right now.

Overloud TH2 is a couple of hundred bucks, but you can get a demo that just doesn't save presets.

If TH2 works out I'll be skipping any Waves stuff until they get their act together with 64bit versions.

    Thanks again :-)

    Cheers - Cliff

Waves GTR3 is 32 bit. I use 8.5.3 and it bitbridges just fine. There has been a Sonar/Waves problem concerning midi forever. However, as much as I dislike Waves, GTR3 is the best money I have ever spent! I love the sounds and the stomp boxes. I put up with it because of the sounds. Also, there are a lot of Artist presets which of course are hit and miss. I would get it just for the stand alone version included.

TH2 is cool b/c it allows you to load impulse responses directly from w/in the plug. I'm kind of surprised other amp sim plugs haven't incorporated this type of feature by now. But if you are in the market for guitar amp plugs that are 64bit, then you should also look into Amplitube from IK Multimedia and Guitar Rig from Native Instruments. Both native 64bit and both highly regarded.

    1. run GTR or other using jBridge
    2. if you want to do mapping - it's fail. MUCH BETTER IS map your controller to default #CC of GTR stompboxes (rightclick)
    3. The best option to controll GTR, GR4/5 or else is... Enabling it as a SOFTSYNTH, insert into EFX bin, and using additional MIDI track to take control using your floorboard or any other controller, without getting ****ing angry at ACT.
