Waves V9 | Waves NLS console emu

Waves v9 coming in March featuring USB flash drive or cloud authorization (for all you iLok haters out there, x64 support)

-next plugin release (free for Mercury hopefully?)
Waves NLS - Emulated console
The SSL 4000G is Mark "Spike" Stent (Radiohead, Björk, Muse, Maroon 5, Madonna)
The EMI TG12345 Mark 4 is Mike Hedges (The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Dido, Faithless, Manic Street Preachers, U2) - this one is heard on such timeless productions such as Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon"
The Neve 5116, specially made for Yoad Nevo (Bryan Adams, Pet Shop Boys, Sugababes, Goldfrapp, Air)

In developing this plugin modeled Waves more than 100 individual channels in all the details, with their very own sound colors and characters were studied and analyzed. The behavior of each input and the summing busses was recorded.

What's the real difference between a USB flashdrive and an iLok?  What happens if your USB flash gets "lost"?

1- big difference: usb flash drives can store data like a hard drive, iLok authorizes licenses using Pace technology that you stick in a usb port.
2- you go look for it

Wonder how much this "update" is gonna cost...especially for folks (like me, for instance) who have several Version 7 plugs and several Version 8 plugs and who's WUP is non-existant???  I've always loved them using that acronym as it pretty much sums up what they've been trying to do to you...WUP up on ya;-)

My WUP is current on the V8 Mercury I just purchased. If I read the rules correctly, this should be a free update for me. But, I'd pay a few Benjamins if I have too.

FWIW I received the new WLM for free under my WUP. The rules read, all updates and upgrades are free during the active WUP period for your product. So, if NLS is part of Mercury it should be free just as WLM was for me.

However, I could see 64-bit being touted as a (here's a stretch) "new product". I surely hope not.

Great news! hopefully it is & will only have to worry about the new authorization scheme working w/o too many headaches.

    Here's the funny thing.

At the Waves booth they were handing out a free V8 installer CD/DVD. From September 2011.

Anything can and will be cracked anyway. The only difference is that people like me, who've refused to buy anything protected by iLock, will now consider Waves when shopping for plug-ins.

I don't know how many times in the last year alone I decided to pass on Waves - sometimes in favor of similar but more expensive solutions - just because of iLock. Anytime that happened, I let them know.

    You along with many others!
They're aware that there's money to be made (or lost) & I'm sure that's why this is all coming into play.

A smart move on their part.

Yes I am aware of the strongarms tactics of WUP, thus my comment. The ILOK on the other hand has never given me a minute trouble.

    So as far as the mechanics of ILOK, I dont share the comments about it, the "moral principles" that people have about being locked in, I dont either, it is jut a licensing mechanism. In fact when I rebuilt my DAW the ILOK licensed VSTs were the easiest to re-authorize;

However, it seems the tide is slowly turning away from ilok, thats all good. But if I have to redo my Version 8 Waves plug ins in the future, it seems I am hosed since I am not a wup payee.

You'll still be able to authorize whatever V8 plugs licenses you purchased. Changing the authorization process won't change that.
    Is that what you mean?

It's just an upgrade program you have an option to buy into, or not! It's not a licensing thing, it's just an upgrade option and in my opinion - a fair one.

In the early days an ol feller could rack up a sizeable amount of WUP per year dependin on how many plugs or bundles he had.  Then they went to a more sensible $200 (I think) maximum WUP per year no matter what all ya had.  (Correct me if I'm off on that...I have never been WUPed in my dang life).  And the problem was that many times...many, many times...none of your software had any updates or got any better at all...even though you paid...and got...yor yearly WUPpin.  I guess they've either finally wised up and realized that there's a substantial amount of very serious competition out there that don't go for such tomfoolery or that most if not all of us user "horses" are already dead and can be flogged no more.  YMMV.

+ Mercury owners will get the new InPhase plugin as well. They may include it in Plat./ Gold etc. free of charge also.

But I already have UAD's LittleLabs IBP so I'm not dying on the vine here for that one. You can, however, never have enough console emus, nor 64bit versions of your fav plugs.

Musicman100: I'm not sure I understand your concern, and others concerns of WUP.

YMMV.
