For my test project I created four folders labeled Percussion, Rhythm, Melody, Extras and tossed four blank tracks into each. Some folders I had to add extra tracks. Some folders have unused tracks. I think I may have broke your thread. :-/

My 1st tracks are woodwinds.  Flutes usually go 1st.  By the 8th track I'm into the brass section.

Kick, snare, hats, tom 1, tom 2, tom 3, tom 4, stereo overheads.

I don't do vocals so I follow the basic 8 with tracks for Bass, Rythym Guitar, lead Guitar and keys/sound effects.

    1. Kick 2. Snare 3. Hi-Hat 4. Stereo Toms 5. Stereo Cymbals 6. Bass 7. Acoustic Guitar 8. Piano, If I don't have the feel by this time, I will never have it and should start over. Note: I may lay down the guitar first, but it would still not be track #1. I do these in whatever order makes sense for the song and depending on which instrument most defines the feel.

    1. Reference 2. ClickTrack 3. GhostPercussion 4. Kick 5. SubBass 6. BackbeatSnare 7. H-hat 8. Bass There's usually lots more, but starts with those. "Ghost" is a reference percussion for swing, and rarely is mixed up in the final. Would also be interested in what bus configurations people use out of the box.

Kick, Snare, HH, Toms, OH, RoomMic, Bass, Guitar1

Any percussion instrument I would put before the bass

On an electronic track it looks a bit differen. But I always start with the different drums followed by the bass. I see this as the foundation to work from and therefor it's nice to have them first.

    For a personal recording.
    This my start template:
I start with a pair of tracks
    1. Vocal - Represented by a folder which will contain all vocal tracks (usually 1 of 4 tracks minimum)
    2. Acoustic guitar. Folder for all rhythm guitars start with 1 of 4 tracks
These scratch tracks establish a rhythmic point of reference as well as the basic arrangement of the song.
    3. Synth lead melody (folder with 8 tracks)
    4. Guitar lead melody (Folder with 4 tracks)
    5. Drums Represented by a folder that contains as many as 16 tracks through Superior Drummer 2
    6. Bass Guitar folder with 4 tracks that represent all Bass content
    7. Brass  Folder of 4 tracks
8 Strings Folder of 4 tracks

So that template starts with 48 tracks that is  usually enough for a solo project.

It depends. If I'm doing a projr]ect with the Roland V-Drums, then
    1. Bass DI
    2. Bass (Either modeled bass from Bass Pod or mike cabinet)
    3. Guitar
    4. Guitar
    5. Scratch Vocal
Keys are MIDI until later (Like Drums)

    If live recorded drums
    1. kick
    2. top snare
    3. bottom snare
    4. hat
    5. left OH
    6. right OH
    7-8 Toms

Please list your first 8 tracks on your typical project, 1 through 8.

I am interested to see the setups of all X1 users.

I don't stick with a particular order and I also keep moving tracks (or folders) up or down as the project develops.  While I am working on the interplay between 2 midi instruments, I might put the relevant tracks adjacent to each other temporarily.  Otherwise I arrange like with like, but not necessarily in any particular order.

Buses are a different matter though.  I usually put the Master bus first so that it will be immediately visible when I click Show Bus Pane.

I'm not an X1 user though, so maybe you are not interested.

I have a template I call Scratchpad that I always use when I am just fooling around.  If I end up recording something of worth, I will save with a new name.

    My template looks like this:

    Folder: Vocals
     - Lead
     - Backup 1
     - Backup 2
     - Backup 3
     - Backup 4
    Folder: Drums
     - vdrums midi
     - kick
     - snare
     - toms stereo
     - cymbals stereo
     - Handsonic midi
     - Handsonic audio
    Folder: Guitars and Bass
     - Rhythm 1
     - Rhythm 2
     - Lead 1
     - Lead 2
     - Bass

Each of these tracks is already setup with the proper ins and outs so that I can just select a track, hook up the instrument or mic, and start recording.  I add keys as needed.

I also have a Main bus, a drums, bus, and a vocal bus to begin with.

    1. Scratch Vocal
    2. Scratch Guitar
    3. 1st Rhythm Guitar
    4. 2nd Rhythm Guitar -or- Acoustic Guitar
    5. Solo Guitar (if applicable)
    6. Scratch Bass
    7. Bass (or Bass 2 if 6 is a keeper)
    8. Vocal

This is how things usually start. Sometimes I'll use layers which changes this lineup, other times not, depends on how I'm working that day and the number of tracks I think I'll need.
