What about Sonar Power?

Just wondering how Scott will keep up with the 'constantly evolving' Sonar? Be a shame not to have one of his admirable works to refer to going forward but can't see how he'll be able to accommodate significant monthly (or so) updates.

there was another thread about this, but i can't get the search to work.  I'm sure he will have to adjust as well. I'm guessing he will just make a new addition whenever there are enough significant features accumulated to justify it...just like now.  the biggest change will likely be the titling.  Something like "Sonar Power 2015 edition" would probably work.  It will have some redundant information...just like now but will be very valuable to new users.

I do hope Scott does not get discouraged.  he's an old pro, so I am sure he will work with new system.  There are still plenty of books coming out on Photoshop, after affects and other rolling release products.

Search seems to be working here, btw, Dubdisciple, but I can't find a relevant thread using Sonar Power as a search term - don't suppose you can remember what the thread you saw was titled?

Cheers, scook - tried that, and a few other terms, but no luck. I'm searching using the search bar at the top of the Sonar Forum - could it (the thread) be somewhere else?

I would have thought there may be scope here for an 'evolving' model for Scott to follow, much as SONAR itself is now going to continually improve.

To accommodate this, my suggestion would be for Scott to make the move from print media to electronic media.

What is "X3 Power" on Amazon currently, $35? How about $15 down for the 'core' guide, and then another three or four updates as features are added to make up the balance?

Thanks, JohnoL. It's normally at least a few months between Sonar release and Power publication - hope it's not too far behind when it gets here this time.

Exactly what I had in mind. Anything that doesn't involve having to have a fresh print-run for the entire book every few months. Electronic media would be ideally suited to this.

I know a lot of people (myself included) actually prefer to have 'the printed page' books to hold and flick through, so I'd also envisage other formats being available such as PDF (i.e. computer-based as opposed to e-reader based) which would offer the user the opportunity to print specific pages off.

I'm getting up to speed with Adobe Photoshop, and having a dual monitor system (originally for SONAR) means I can open up Photoshop on one monitor and use the other monitor to display online tutorials and how-to videos.

Here's a screenshot across both my monitors with Photoshop open on the left monitor and a Steve Arnold video tutorial on the right monitor:

Just imagine how cool it would be to be learning some new technique in SONAR by having it open on one monitor, and the relevant explanation in a PDF version of Power open on the other.

This sounds good but with one minor (!) change: 'change inserts' every quarter or so rather than every year. Not sure how we'd actually pay for that, or how it would be published - perhaps buy a core Power in PDF format and then subscribe (sorry for using the 's' word) to quarterly PDF updates, or maybe a core publication in binder-friendly format followed by a regular magazine type of thing as suggested (tongue in cheek, I think, but it could work) by Alex. Maybe Scott could give us a clue as to what he's got it mind??? :o)

Are you aware (I wasn't until a year or two ago) that you can have your book spiral bound for really cheap at an office supplies store ?  I now have this done to all my music books and manuals.  They just cut off the binding, punch a bunch of holes and twist in a spiral (or those flat-tabbed plastic things, your choice).

Or you just cut off the binding and three-hole bunch the pages for a binder.  I did this for my daughter's huge biology textbook which weighed a ton.  Cut off the binding with a razor blade and punched the pages for a set of binders.

Sonar Power is a pretty big book so you'd have to do it in chapters or something.

That's what I would like, some subscription with updates at regular intervals, but not a whole year. They have those plastic spiral type (but not real spirals) binders that spread apart in the center. Those would be perfect. Just slide the new stuff in when you get it. And laying flat on the desk, that would be great. I love Scotts books and I have several but getting the new SONAR Power book when there is a new version in 6 months guaranteed I wouldn't get one every year. But a ongoing subscription to the updates with an initial "core book" purchase? No hesitation at all for me. Actually I was hoping he would do something like this even before the new SONAR deal. And you have to have a tablet version. And I would subscribe to both.

I have hoped for a binder type book so it could lay flat. And then you could just buy the changes every year instead of the whole book. Things have changed some but I would love getting a subscription from Scott and getting the new updates and features with instructions on where to put them avnd what to take out if anything.

    Great idea.
