What are some good Netflix shows?
We enjoyed watching the Sherlock TV series with Benedict Cumberbatch as the acting and story lines were quite good. What are some other shows that you can recommend for Netflix? (can be any type....comedy, mystery, suspense, drama etc.....).

+1 on House of Cards, Mad Men.
Although somewhat risqué to some, "Orange Is The New Black".
"Our World War". A BBC mini-series. Only 3-episodes. Wish there were more.
Not sure if Walking Dead is available on Netflix.
Not for everybody. Canadian comedy series "The Trailer Park Boys".

The Killing--a long serial (two seasons to solve the first murder) but high quality stuff. There are two Borias one is just Borgia, the other The Borgias of the two the first is more impressive but apparently ran out of funding in the middle. Both are worth watching. Lillyhammer humor in a sitcom of this level is rare. Louie, when CK stays off the pulpit. Rita: subtitles but worth the effort. Danish Bad Teacher with a heart, another sit com but you might not notice. Peaky Blinders: serial--turn of the century small time organized crime vs the industrial revolution. Magic City: serial--the Godfather does Miami. 30 Rock: if you missed it the first time. Ripper Street: a serial with London coppers using their intelligence. Copper: a serial or series with strong ongoing plot, an Irish cop in New York through the Civil War using his wits. The Politician's Husband: British miniseries a good homage to House of Cards House of Cards: The original British version is only slightly less impressive than the American copy. Dexter: is probably still there, if you missed the first run. Learn to root for a psychopathic serial killer. League of Gentlemen: Monty Python homage with a sustained sort of setting in-the horror genre meets the English village cliche. The same people do Come Fly With Me to the airport industrial complex. Their Little England is more hit and miss. The Tudors: A miniseries--does to Henry VIII what Borgia did to the Pope. Boss: a serial Who would have guessed that Kelsey Grammrr could act, but someone gave him a good script. There are two Wallanders as well--police procedural series. Henning Mankeils Wallander is the better of the two if you can deal with the subtitles. The just plain Wallendar is the English version but there is no overlap so watch both. Prime Suspect: Helen Mirren at her best as a British police officer. Ken Burn's Jazz: Unmissable.

Not quite right Slart - 'Little Britain' and 'Come Fly With Me' is David Walliams and Matt Lucas, but they're not members of the 'League of Gentlemen' crew. 'LoG' is dark stuff but very funny. I'd also recommend 'Luther', terrific London-based detective series.

See the original House of Cards with Ian Richardson ... far better and nastier, though it has a bit of English Theater in it with all the "asides". Ian Richardson is a total crack up ... and his expressions are priceless!

Breaking Bad is the single greatest T.V. show that I have ever seen in my life hands down bar none. Walking Dead is alright and if you're in the mood for animated shows, Bob's Burgers and Futurama are great.

Orange is the new black was the last I saw, worth watching. Like nearly every series after series, it has some patchy moments, but worth wading through. I watched Dare Devil and really liked it, just let go of the fact what he does is a bit silly, the details around the story seem pretty solid to carry it, and you forget the question the main point. So then I watched Flash and just gave up. Everything being explained, really one for the kids, which isn't a negative comment, after all he's a superhero and I am not a kid. Then I watched Gotham, a precursor to Batman, but sets up young Bruce. The focus is on Gordon, with side stories setting up the world we know. Very good, enjoyed a lot

Not sure if on Netflix but if you have not seen it (or them if I start rambling again)... Curb Your Enthusiam (Larry David, co-creator of Seinfeld without the network muzzle... hilarious) Veep (Julia Louis Dreyfuss, Elaine from Seinfeld, as the crusty Vice Pres of the US... also hilarious) Arrested Development (of course and I know this is on Netflix because they brought the series back to life) Game of Thrones is brilliant if they have it. I will second the vote for Dexter if you haven't seen it yet, Breaking Bad is also great. Weeds is pretty good but took me a while to get into (kind of like Breaking Bad but with pot and a little more comedic). Extras (Ricky Jervais from the original UK version of The Office... way better than TO IMO) If you are into Sci Fi see if they have Andromeda. Very underated show of that genre (again may take a bit to get into). Speaking of Sci Fi... Red Dwarf is a pretty funny and classic poke at the genre. I'll try to think of more. Cheers.

Probably not on Netflix but they are all available on youtube (and if you pull up the wiki article about it it provides a full episode list)... The Jeremy Brett portrayals of Sherlock Holmes. They go by various names so there is no one specific series name (I think it changes names three times to follow how Doyle published his works). They are considered by many as the penultimate protrayal of Holmes. Very good stuff from the late 80's/early 90's and they covered the most installments of Doyle's works ever and more true to the original writings than most others. Great stuff.

If you enjoyed Sherlock, you'd probably get a kick out of some of the other well-made procedural/detective shows. I don't know if they're on Netflix right now, but Psych and Castle are both fantastic. Snappy dialogue, mystery solving, lovable characters, and high production values. No Benedict Cucumberbatch, but at least you can get Captain Mal Reynolds. Also, Burn Notice is a decent procedural/detective show with clever dialogue and cool characters. Main draw for me is that Bruce Campbell plays one of the main characters

Did we forget The Sopranos? I honestly got sick of hearing about that show so never watched it until recently. Now I know why it was so popular. Oz is another "I think I'm gonna poop myself" type of thug thriller... it's a little cheesily produced by today's standards though but the stories are f*cked.

Thought of another one that's pretty good. Rescue Me with Dennis Leary. And yes... Home Movies is pretty good if you can get past the wonked animation in the first season (you get used to it). It was done by the same guy who did Metalocalypse, Brandon Smalls. Well kind of. In both shows he had different partners but still... it's pretty much Smalls. He does pretty much all the music in both as well which is cool. Oh and if we're going twisted Adult Swim cartoon route... AQUA TEAM HUNGER FORCE (and all the various f*dged up names it used over the years... lol). Watching that show is like being on bad drugs even if you're dead sober.

I've been running out of stuff to watch myself because I don't scour the current entertainment sites, own a tv (not a hipster I swear) and don't even go to any other forums except this one anymore (which I used to and how I kept up a little on pop culture... ya'll turned me into an uber laser focused audio spazz... which is kind of awesome actually). So essentially I'm finding myself reaching into the "nostalgia" bin. I was watching freaking Three's Company for cripes sake! Absolutely awful... but an interesting look at social mores in the late 70's early 80's which is why I stuck it out for a few seasons. ZOMG!!! A single man living with two wimminz!! BURN THEM!!!! Hahahah! Currently still watching Columbo (which is timeless... freaking Peter Falk b*tches!) and Just Shoot Me which is okay because David Spade reminds me of my spazzy neighbor/best friend from when I was kid. Damn that kid cracked me up. Kind of luke warm show at best though but that's the 90's for ya. Simpler times. And now I'll go be old elsewhere.
