What are you liking in a computer monitor these days.
I'm in need of a new one. So many options so thought I'd ask what's really working for you all. What's the best size and resolution to suit Sonar? What about the hdmi tv's, any benifits or problems with them? Can anyone think of anything I haven't thought of? I'll bet so!

I don't know much about resolutions and such, but I do know that having had dual monitors for a few years now, if I were buying now my first consideration would be which ones can I afford two of ?.

I've been considering going from my 24" monitor to a 29" Ultra Wide like this one. Has anyone been using one of those and if so, do you like it so far? Thanks

My choice is based on a monitor with solution that is higher than what Sonar recommended, but not necessary the highest available. Due to my eye sight .. I'm most happy at 1920 x 1080 resolution on a 27" monitor - placed about 2-3 feet from me. The same resolution with my smaller monitor (21.5") is a bit straining for me. And I won't go for 27" monitor with 2560 x 1440 resolution as text and graphics will be smaller. Not that it's an issue with web browser, but Sonar and other vst screen size won't scale up/down independently of the monitor resolution.

Dual (or more) monitors is a must, IMO. I hate tabbing through things and I like everyting in front of me. I wish everything these days wasn't widescreen - 4x3 monitors rule for the larger vertical space (especially for track view). For me, widescreen monitors are better for displaying a bunch of channel strips. Regarding size/resolution, I think it depends on your eyesight and what you're comfortable with. I'm seriously considering upgrading my DAW to Win8 (or 8.1) and getting a pair of 22" or 23" 1080p touchscreen monitors. Definitely not needed, but a cool toy. Right now, I'm using 3 monitors, a 17" 4x3 LCD, a 22" LCD (1680x1050), and a 19" 4x3 LCD (portrait mode) on my DAW. If I went to the touchscreen monitors, I'd probably mount the smaller ones above on an arm to display things like plugins or maybe the time/measure counter (so I can see it from across the room).

To the OP, With HDMI you can have longer cable length. You may want to decide if the monitor supports VESA mounting ? Edit : Just realized you asked about HDMI TV..not the interface/cable.

I'm using a 24" Orion tv that I bought at Walmart on Black Friday last year for $78 running through an HDMI cable. I guess it could be better, but it's working fine. I also have my cable hooked up to it, so it serves double duty as a tv once in a while. Sure beats the 19 inch monitor I used to use.

+ 1 to the dual "monitors." If I remember correctly, Bob Bone uses 2 32" HD TV's. These have the same resolution I run my 27" monitor at, but are more cost effective and easier on the eyes. He would be a good one to ask specifics on the TV idea, I think.

I've been using the same ACER223W monitors for about 4-5 years now...can't imagine more width, but more height would be useful. Before that I had two different sizes, and that was a real pain getting the resolutions right and dealing with the layout. I would recommend 23" or 24" (sweet spot for cost), matched pair...no more than HD, unless you want to go BIG!

I switched over to using HDTV's a few years back, and am VERY happy I made the switch. Although a purpose-built computer monitor will have a better picture, the image quality of an HDTV is fine for Sonar, AND you can get a LOT bigger display for the money by getting an HDTV. My current setup uses 2 displays - my primary display is a 46" HDTV, and I keep the Track View open on that one, and my secondary display is a 32" HDTV. I spent $360 for the 46" HDTV, and $199 for the 32" HDTV, which are pretty normal prices these days for TV's of those sizes - with a little looking around. The 32" HDTV has the Console displayed on it, for easy access and viewing of the channel strips. I USED to use 2 32" HDTV's. When I picked up the 46", I then had 3 displays, but eventually gave one of the 32" displays away, as I just didn't need that third display. I'm LOVING it. Bob Bone

I have 2 HP 2331 23" monitors, 1920 x 1080 resolution. I keep the console view on one monitor and the track view on the other. I'd like to add a larger monitor or possibly a HDTV as a 3rd viewing source. That'd be cool but it's not in the budget at this time.

I have four 19" 5:4 ratio 1280x1024 Dell monitors in a 2-up 2-down arrangement. Track View permanently spans the top 2 screens while CV, PRV or some combination of other view windows or docked GUIs occupy the lower screens, depending on which screenset is selected. Four separate screens suited Sonar 7 very well, but probably one single very large screen would suit the X-series better.
