what is this "free time" you speak of.  I sometimes sacrifice the little sleep I can get in order to play video games once the wife and baby are in bed...this makes me happy.  Except the no sleep part, that stinks

    Free time.

I average 5 hours sleep of every 24. None of the rest of that is free time. If I had more control over how my time was spent I guarantee you I would have a different schedule. I still wouldnt have any free time but it would be spent in different ways.

But then, like eating your favorite food every day. Having your cake and eating it too might grow old. I thrive on little changes. If every day were the same you would have reached your pinnacle at day one. I'm following a course but I realize I'm not the one at the helm of the ship, although I am allowed to co-pilot sometimes.

When I do what I want I'm usually in the studio. I pull away into the cave and then venture out when I have to,being in the cave all the time ain't healthy either. I might find myself on the porch enjoying a beverage deciding what to do next. The older I get the more I think about something before I do it lol.

I like to go for nice long drives in the country. Wife's gettin' on me about spending so much on gas. Something about not having a job and who's gonna pay for it or something like that. I dunno ... I wasn't really payin' attention to her. Wimmen. Sheesh.

Went for one this morning and found some interesting places nearby I never knew existed.

Found a protected marsh out in the middle of nowhere on a gravel road. And I mean nowhere. Not a car, house, farm, cow, horse, in site for miles. Just a couple acres of swampy marsh with a bunch of Swans surrounded by corn fields. Had some coffee with me, pulled off along the road and enjoyed the peace and quiet for about a half hour, then went exploring some more.

It was 67 degrees out (and still is), no wind at all, sun shining.

    Life is good.

Isn't is obvious, laff. I spend a lot of time here and there... I LOVE to read too and the best thing I have bought in YEARS is the KINDLE... I connot emphasize this enough.. the KINDLE is the best thing I have bought in years. Most of the books I read are free. I like memoirs and classics. Most of the books I buy are cheap but some I pay more for because I cannot wait or they are highly recommended. I am usually reading 4-5 book at any one time, and read them at different ties of the day or according to my mood. Recently I decided to read Jefferson Davis' book, The Rise and Fall of the Government of the Confederate States of America. Then I decided to counter balance (not that any is really needed) by getting and starting The Slave Narratives... the Narratives are some amazing work. They are interviews with elderly black people who were born into slavery. The interviews were done by the WPA in the 1930s. There are scrores of them. There are four volumes of the GA narratives, there are volumes from everywhere, there are even Slave narratives from slaves that were owned by Indians. They are written in the vernacular of the people being interviewed and are REALLY interesting... and they are free downloads for the Kindle or for that matter the Kindle APP for the PC.

My daily devotional.. Grace For the Moment, by Max Lucado

I am also reading Military Memoirs of a Confederate: A Critical Narrative by Gen, Edward Porter Alexander. I read his other book Fighting fr the Confederacy: The Personal Memoirs of Edward Porter Alexander, last year and it is one of the better books I have read from that era. He wrote it after the Military book at the insistance of his daughters and it really is good.
    Also reading...
God's Astounding Opinion of You, by Ralph Harris
Home Recording For Dummies, by Jeff Strong
I have Fairy Tales Every Child Should Know, by Hamilton Wright Mabie.. I read from it to my grand daughters.
The Terrorist Next Door: How the Government is deceiving you About the islamist Threat, by Erick Stakelbeck
    The Law, by Frederick Bastiat
The Art of War, by Sunzi
    The Heidleberg Catechism

    Downloaded to read...
Democracy in America, by Alexis De Tocqueville
Concerning Christian Liberty, by Martin Luther
Frankenstein: Dead or Alive, by Dean Koontz

    Rrecently finished....
Advance and Retreat, by Gen. John Bell Hood
The Memoirs of General William T. Sherman
Personal Mamoirs or U. S. Grant (very biased and fairly boring)
The Story of Cole Younger, by Cole Younger
Three Years with Quantrill, by John McCorkle
Outliers, by Malcolm Gladwell (a good book)

I also get two magazines: Guitar Player and American Digger ( I have 7 or 8 metal detectors from old to new/from beginner to top of the line) My other hobby is relic hunting. I have a pretty good collection of Civil War relics and other old stuff.. from old coins, to horse shoes, to brass buttons, to Three Merry Widows tins... detecting may look nerdy but is an amazing hobby because you just never know what you might dig up in an old yard or in the woods. I had the pleasure of finding a girls engagement ring at the beach a few years ago. She had lost it playing volleyball, it was easy to find and very rewarding.

I am semi-retired... finally. I still own my own business but don't have to do a lot of work. I didn't do any in August. I might do a ittle in September but then I will take off until March... I now have time to do this sort of thing, to read, and to learn to learn X1. Life is good, if painful... I can't complain though.

So many books... so little time. I bet a lot of today's younger generation could not make sense of a book written before the mid 19th century. 19th century people were generally much more literate.

That more than covers the cost of a Komplete 8 upgrade.

I curse the tasks to be done or the lack of time. Either I curse the duties, having to fix this or that, mowing the lawn, making firewood, changing door knobs, or the fact that there's really not enough free time to really start something that requires more than one or two hours. If I want to do something in my free time I have to schedule it as tightly as any job (otherwise I just sleep), so it does not feel like free time.
I can't remember feeling easy and relaxed, I really can't. It's not fun. I'm lowsy at living (could I say "I'm a stinking liver"?? :o) meaning I stink at living.....

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.
