Guitar.....primarily rhythm. I've played Bass for 5 or 6 years. I have really worked hard on learning to stay in the pocket. I have always wanted to pick up the drums.

Bass and some keys. Used to do the instrument-jumping thing in a prog-rock band a decade ago.

ORIGINAL: vojx 1) Mouse. Exactly. Yeah. When people learn that I do music and ask me what I play, I always feel awkward cos if I say guitar it means it means I'm a guitarist, or if I say keyboard it means I'm a keyboardist, and if I say guitar and keyboards it means I'm a multiinstrumentalist or something. And I don't really consider myself any of those things. So I usually just say oh I'm a songwriter and record on the computer and I can pretty much play any instrument I want, which is both true enough and untrue enough, and try to change the subject. Instruments are all just *instruments*... tools to accomplish something. In that sense my main instrument IS the computer, which helps me make recordings, which for me is what all this music stuff is about. I could call myself a 'recording artist' but that implies I'm a contracted and released artist, and therefore rich. I could call myself a 'record producer' but that implies I'm either the former lead singer for 4 Non-Blondes or married to Shania Twain, and therefore really really rich. It's so hard to win.

Guitar ...wish I could kick butt on keyboards though. I took lesson for a while. But, it feels all backwards. On the guitar, my left hand is doing all the melody work, while the right is either picking or strumming out the rhythm. It's completely the opposite on a keyboard. Sax would be awesome too. .

Except the drummer Only if it's done in a SKA meets Country sort of way. I'll take ska, you can have country. We'll need to incorporate a few more genres for Mod Bod and lazarous.

Mooch has a brand new shovel, and he's not afraid to dig up old threads! Seriously, though. If your saxophone is bigger than you are, does it suggest you're trying to compensate for something? On a completely different subject, I really need a bigger drumkit...

quantumeffect Drums … my first childhood memories are of playing paradiddles. I took up guitar in my 30’s. Trumpet in grammar school and a little in middle school. I found this video of a coffee house get together from a couple of years ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iN42uzNFVmQ&feature=related Cool song. Needs a bass guitar, though.

Hi, I can do some nice things on the keyboards ... but you're not gonna get me to play The Saints Won Marching In the Super Bowl either! I like the Bass Guitar and its sounds and things that can be done that are not done because so much music is so conventional out there ... and the ability to create individual "expressions" gets buried under ... just notes? I'm putting together a few things with my poetry ... by the time I send one to Bapu to see what he thinks, I think I will have crapped my pants 15 times, and peed my pj's 14 times and heard Strummy laugh in my dreams 10 times ... and it gets to the point where ... I'm not sure I want to share, or that I'm going to the right people is what someone else said! And I don't have stage fright! ... So, we'll see .... I'm just hoping that it is good enough for one of them to say ... yeah .. poorly recorded ... but that's far out ... so I can feel better about all the scratching and clawing I had to do to get it done with all this software and hardware ... although poetry is not always the forte here ... and the ones I've written have been largely ignored. But though I do not sing much, my main instrument would be my voice ... in reading poetry one time, someone said ... your voice is so musical! ... and I think that is the prettiest compliment I have ever gotten!

My main instrument is bass guitar. I wish I was better at coffeehouse, but apparently that's an impossible instrument to master. Even experienced players have timing problems. Some miss the pickup and come in several years too late. Not mentioning any names.

keys, piano, etc... would like to be able to play acoustic guitar and bass, but my problem is I'd want to be as good on those as I am on keys right away... which ain't gonna happen... I just don't understand the chord fingering for guitars... it just looks so random and weird... I'm pretty good at RockBand II drums... does that count?

just don't understand the chord fingering for guitars... it just looks so random and weird... Same problem I have - non linear which monkeys with my brain. I learned piano when I was at school, gravitated (if that's the right word) to drums and mainly played those in bands, and percussion in orchestras. Learned how to tune a guitar while in the studio, but only started playing last summer. Along the way I've dabbled with harmonica, digeridoo (once!) and a canvas/wood wind machine. Wish I was better at all of them.

Guitar.... but it wasn't always that way. I started on piano...taking lessons, then in elementary school they were offering band and since the drums were the cheapest.... (sticks and a practice pad) that's the one my Mom signed me up for. At 14, I told my Mom I either wanted a 22 rifle or a guitar...I had gone to summer camp and they had a rifle range, and on Saturday night they had a big old jam session, and I fell in love with the guitar sound..... Mom figured I would do less damage with the guitar so at 14 I got my first acoustic guitar. In bands I had the opportunity to play around on the various instruments. I even bought a bass for a time. Now, it's mostly guitar and keys....with synths.

A Jack of all trades, and master of none....but, I love playing the guitar (and banging on the keys). The funny thing is the more your learn to play an instrument, the more your realize how far you really are....but, perseverance pays off.

I'm a drummer who occasionally violates a keyboard. I began singing lead vocals in a high school band. No one told me at the time that drummers aren't supposed to sing... Around that same time, a pianist friend of mine begged me never to play keyboards again. He claimed that I played the piano like it was a drum. I responded that the keys needed to be hit that hard to get the sound I wanted. The best I can do on a keyboard is to play simple triads with the occasional "What kind of chord is that?" noise. To do anything with any accuracy or intricacy, I have to do some midi editing. I started switching from acoustic drums to electronic drums around 1991. In those early years, the sound was "somewhat real, but not very convincing". With modern sound sources and samples, it's much more realistic and the sonic palette is huge. I've written a number of songs, but I've shredded most of them due to my own perfectionistic tendancies.

My main instrument is my 12 string guitar, then a six string acoustic, a six string electric, my bass, my midi keyboard and my synth. At one point I was a bass player in a country band untill I couldn't stand it any more. For a while I did a solo acoustic gig, open mics etc...For years I worked as a roadie/light man for rock and blues bands running my own little light show. My biggest downfall is that I don't sing very well. I made more money dj'ing though...but still nothing to brag about. My best paying gig was working as a wireman at Rockwell Automation. That bought me my home studio. Now I'm just playing around with my bass trying get my chops up again.

I started out with a 12 string guitar. Then went to 6 string...down to a parlour guitar..then switched to a 4 string tenor..now I've got a ukelele. I reckon by November I should be proficient on an elastic band stretched over a matchbox.
