What shall I do with my 'album' when it's finished?
Got 2 tracks to finish and my 'Weirdstone' project will be ready for mastering. (see link in sig) Question is; what to do with it then? If anything... A friend of mine says to start a YouTube channel, make some simple vids for a few tracks, get a Facebook page up and running...daily updates..etc.etc.. Haven't even considered trying to sell CD's at all, that appears to be a dead end now. What do you think? Would anyone even be interested these days? I'm not particularly bothered, it was something I've wanted to do for years for my own satisfaction, but it seems a shame to do it all and just leave it to fester on my website.

I am at exactly the same place James. I could even cut a couple of songs from the CD and choose the best 12-13. I will be curious to see what the suggestions will be.

I played my newest song for my sister. It's a fusion tune and I like it a lot. She listened no more than 15 seconds made a face and walked out. So, I record for myself and what I like. I have no plans to do anything else with the music.

Well OK, I get that Bill, but by the same token, there's no point me playing anything I do to my wife, because she doesn't like that kind of music. That doesn't mean there aren't other people who would like it, same goes for your music.

I love listening to your music James! My family has no interest in my kind of music. They tell I just don't sound like anybody. I may make a CD for my Grandkids one day but as far as putting something out well I have no plans. Good luck on your music and endeavors! I hope you have great success!!!

Thanks Bill. I'm not under any illusions about the 'success' a middle-aged man is likely to achieve (none) with his vaguely proggish noodlings, but I'm just curious as to what, if anything, I can do in these times with a collection of tracks once they're done. As a secondary question, I'm also wondering whether I should be asking the author of the book which inspired the whole project for his blessing before doing anything at all...

I don't listen much to any music on TV/radio/etc. or even my stash of old rock, jazz, and country. I DO listen to a lot of music on the forums. The folks here are putting out some great sounds. The guys post tunes that are uniquely their own with their own sound and nuances even if it's a cover tune. Usually after supper I'll kick back in my recliner and just click on "play all" and just listen. In the past 4 years it's been a wonderful treat!!! I am a fan of the forums and the music that comes from here!

Hi, Hmmmm ... tough one ... for me, anyway. I come from a very high literary house, and in there, "publishing" was the ultimate, however, this is 2014 and publishing is really no different than toilet paper! All in all, and I do not expect you to hear me out at all, since I do things very differently, I would say ... move on to your next project. Post it where you think it will do the most good, and let it go. End of story, idea and conversation, and on to the next poem or story for me. I like a lot of my own work that I did many years ago, but even though it did not sell, and no one could say anything, since it was not a "topical conversation" poetry, it made it for an anomaly and no appreciation for the work whatsoever. There is nothing, that hurts more, than anyone ignoring things, and thus, I say, stop worrying about the expectation that folks will kiss yah, and throw money your way, and move on to the next thing that you want to do. There is no time, to wait for any audience to come to appreciate you, and you might even feel that you are waiting for Godot, but that is the reality of it all for most of us. Remember that it has been said that only 1 out of 100 "make it, and that means that you might as well concentrate on what matters to you, and if it comes ... good ... now you have more work to share. If it doesn't, you didn't waste time waiting for the handouts you will never get. But yeah, this is me, and I don't live for an audience. I live for my inner VISION. The rest is not important to me.
As a wise Guy once stated from his holy chapala ... none of the hits, none of the time ... prevents you from becoming just another turkey in the middle of all the other turkeys!

I never started worrying about that. There is no 'making it' for a 54 year old making the kind of music I do. I was just curious if anyone had any ideas about what to do with an old school 'album' these days. It would be nice for people to hear it, download it if they want. I'm not interested in selling it. I've already started planning the next project..going to need an 'online band' for this one...

As I usually do, cut three or four CD-R's do some printing stuff for cover and liner etc., give a couple away, stick one up on the shelf with the other ones I have done, move on to the next one. You could if you feel brave send it to Sound on Sound for a review, though I would not hold my breath, as good as your music is I think it is who you know where getting a review with them is concerned if you get my furry drift. PS PM me and I could be interested in spending a few of the remaining pennies I have on a copy I would even pay P&P

Hi James, have you thought about passing on your new music to a local radio station ? or maybe even a college radio station ... you also have music stores ( CD consignment ) , local newspaper , music rags , bars , pubs, local film students for possible placement in an indie film ... what about Tim ? he still does shows ? maybe he can sell a few or pass them on to prospective allies Good Luck with your new CD Kenny
