Some people are intimidated when talking to large numbers of people in an entertaining way. Not me.

You know what's weird? I suffer (I hate the word "suffer" here, it sounds overly dramatic) from social phobia and can hardly function in a new environment with new people, but for some strange reason, I feel pretty good and relaxed on stage. I really can't explain it. Sorry, OT I guess, just wasn't sure if anybody else could relate or not.

Well I dont have the new environment social problem but like you Para I never have a problem stepping on to a stage. I never attempt to be the star of the show though or try to be funny, I think it's partly your basic constitution and also, coming from a family of singers and musicians, being well prepared and rehearsed. It's great to be the calming influence in a band, I like it that they can rely on me to hit all my cues and pull all my chops out as required. Best tip I ever got was to laugh (or at least smile) at yours and others mistakes, not to grimace and look angry, it rubs off on everyone, most of all the audience, who never seem to notice occasional mistakes but do get off on a good, relaxed vibe from the performers

People see me, and they see the suit, and they go: "you're not fooling anyone", they know I'm rock and roll through and through. But you know that old thing, live fast, die young? Not my way. Live fast, sure, live too bloody fast sometimes, but die young? Die old. That's the way- not orthodox, I don't live by "the rules" you know. And if there's one other person who's influenced me in that way I think, someone who is a maverick, someone who does that to the system, then, it's Ian Botham. Because Beefy will happily say "that's what I think of your selection policy, yes I've hit the odd copper, yes I've enjoyed the old dooby, but will you piss off and leave me alone, I'm walking to John O'Groats for some spastics."

And he'll always try to hit the ball at least, even if the 'reverse sweep' makes him look a bit ungainly. He's a great guy.....you ask him.

I dunno about the name of my first band but the next one is gonna be called:

'The Iron Bottoms'

In honour of the great man....thanks for the reminder.

First serious band I played in was called 'Spring City', which is the nickname for Waukesha Wisconsin, the city near which we played most of our gigs. So called because in the 1800s is was fairly famous for its healing mineral water springs. Folks would come from all over the country to partake and spend time and $$$ at the myriad spas in the area.

Most of the springs and all the spas are gone, but the name stuck. We selected it for the band purely for its neutral yet recognizable tone. We played together with only one addition (4 to 5 members) for 10+ years until marriages and other life changes broke us up.

Those were the most fun and carefree days of my life. Wish I could go back.

A final name was never agreed upon, but one suggestion by the bass player was rejected:  Random Precision.

The only "real" band I was ever in (albeit for all of six weeks) was Foolish Pleasure.  This was in 1984 and not to be confused with newer bands that took that name.

We were a highschool garage cover band that played house & keg parties (Ozzy, Zepp, D. Purple, M. Crue etc..) that had a regular following of friends (even with our bad playing).

The first band where I wasn't alone in the garage wondering why the rest of the band didn't show up was Front Line.  The unfortunate thing was that someone decided to make a graphic of the name and underlined it.  The underlined version looked like "Eront Line".  Sadly, that's the name that stuck.  Fortunately, the band didn't live long enough for that to matter.

Drums, bass and electric piano.  No vocals.  Yeah.  It was that good.

I started out doing a light show for a band called "Rasputen." About the same time back in the 70's I was also playing 12 string guitar with one of my friends at the campgrounds. We didn't have a stage name or any paying gigs, but we sounded really good together and had no problem drawing a crowd.

Ha!  Totally missed that and just jumped on the train.

Oh well...  I take every chance I get to yap about my painfully short live playing time (did I mention that the drummer went on to play with Mickey Ratt, dying before they became Ratt and the lead guitarist was Craig Goldy of Guiffria and Dio fame?  Yeah...  I guess I have. ).
