What was the name of your first band?
As I recall it, The Nuckromanser. But maybe it was The Higher Underground (both circa 1967). Truth be told, one of those two bands was not my first tho. I was in a band before that but for the life of me I do not recall if we actually had a name. We played at a youth correctional facility and a frat party in Westwood, CA. I had been playing guitar for about 4 weeks then (circa 1966). I only knew half the songs. We were a three piece band (two guitars and drums, no bass). The other guitar player was the singer (cuz he had a mic that he could plug into his Silvertone Amp's second channel). He taught me everything I knew to that point (E, A, D, G, C and F chords. What else did you need back then?). I think we got $10 each for each gig.

I don't think we even got to the point where we named it. We just played until the drummer (who had just broken up with his girl) could no longer make through a whole tune without crying, then we disbanded. Sheesh, what a bunch of weenies we were! But I did a tune with a bass player and drum machine after that and we called ourselves Bent Strayt. Geez, what a bunch of weenies we were!

The first one that actually played for cash was Pyramid. I played in jr high folk bands, stage bands, student symphony, all state and things a bunch before that. My latest venture is Big Oil.
Some people call me Maurice SPLAT Pro lifetime, ADK 6 core 3.6Ghz with 32 GB RAM, SSD 1TB system drive, 3 3TB regular drives for samples, recordings and misc. Behringer X Touch, UAD Apollo Quad. 2 UAD2 Quads PCI (i think - inside the box whatever that is), Console 1. More guitars (40??) and synths (hard and soft) than talent. Zendrum!!!

The first band I play in the '80 in was "Everest" (as a second drummer). I always played for fun not the money, so I left the band when they decided to play more "seriously". The I started another band called "Hors Temps". A rough english translation would be "Out of time". We choose this name because we were playing cover from different era ... but I think it could mean that we were not tight

The first band... just a couple of kids banging on guitars in the basement: The Electric Mead... 2 guitars... one bass, occasional drummer. First band to really play some gigs: Nomad...3 piece never made any money.. played when & where anyone would let us.... for free. Money makers: Boot Hill.... were were good...played country rock in the middle of the disco thing... never made much money and didn't get many gigs... but it was fun. Snuffy Smith..... very short lived band.... played like...2 times. Krrock...yeah , we caught a lot of flack over our name...... 4 piece until the singer left...continued as a 3 piece until we had a big fight. Cahoots......really sharp 3 piece band.... worked for 2+ years gigging full time...was the offspring of Krrock (same people...different name) ended the same way... Family Tradition... house band... 6 piece... lasted 2.5 yrs...same place...same people....same songs.....

Our first band never had a name - just as well probably My first ever paying gig was with a band called Scavenger - we used to write our own heavy metal stuff, and do a load of covers - Freebird, Smoke On The Water, I Don't Know (Ozzy), that sort of thing. We got payed in beer at a Motorcycle Action Group (MAG) in a field near Chipping Sodbury. It rained torrentially throughout the night. At one point, I went to make an adjustment to my amp and noticed rain water coming through the roof of the tent and dripping onto my stack It's surprising so many of us are still alive.

"Chimaera". 1972. Though we didn't have a hope in hell of playing anything progressive as we only knew 2 chords.* *Later on we had another guitarist join who knew a different two chords and we went from strength to strength.

I think we were going to call ourselves Blue Flint of all things, in a cheap ripoff of Pink Floyd I guess, but it never really got off the ground. My toes still curl up when I think about that. OTOH, I did have a part in the name of a reasonably well known *album* later on, by the Dutch late 80's band Urban Dance Squad. 'Mental Floss' (make suggestive gesture as if flossing between the ears) was my private joke with DNA (Arjen), their scratcher. The album was named Mental Floss for the Globe, and became pretty huge at the time.
