Bristol_Jonesey Why don't they sort out all problems first and add stuff (in free upgrades) that people really want The upgrades to X1a, X1b & X1c were all free. So will the next round of bug fixes. Just saying...................... No they weren't, you paid for them, just as you have already paid for the next round. Just sayin'

I expanded to S1 2 today. But I'll eventually think about buying X2, and see where that leads, when it comes with all the latest and expanded 'plus whatever' upgrades and such. I don't mind having more than one DAW or VST, ect... for me making music is all about getting creative results with optimum immediacy and efficiency. My time is valuable, because time is not a renewable resource. Spontaneity does not often wait for updates and troubleshooting work-arounds, or fiddling with malfunctions and limitations. I like a lot of what X1 does, but I'm not bound and tethered to it as if it were an anchor holding me in place. I have every hope that Sonar will continue to evolve

Tried the S1 demo. They have put their act together with their "ACT". This impressed me lot. Now compare this to ACT... I will expand when sonar gets expanded with such Kind of innovations.

I've already expanded to Studio One (right after X1 came out). I gave Cakewalk every chance to get it together. I see posts all the time on these forums about how "You need to set your computer up right", etc.... Bull! Try the Studio One demo (or Cubase, Reaper, etc.). I just can't see how so many folks on these forums seem to think that a crash is no big deal? If Studio One crashed on me even once a month, I'd be looking for another host. I can't imagine a DAW crashing once per project, yet I've seen so many post over the years on these forums where people seem to think that this is OK? Just 'Part of the deal with complicated things such as DAWs'... Really??? Look... I understand that a DAW is a complicated thing, but I again point you to Cubase, Studio One, Reaper, etc... Don't know what I'm talking about? Be honest... I'm pretty sure that Cakewalk know what I'm talking about. I really liked Cakewalk as a company when I invested in SONAR 7. It seems that the Cakewalk I was impressed with back then is not the Cakewalk of today. The Cakewalk back then was innovative, filled with passion, and determined to be 'IT'. What happened? C'mon man... If I want bells and whistles, I can buy Garage Band Ultra Mega Super Sized, Magix Music Maker Extraordinaire, My Magic Songwriter Tonka Edition Elite.... OK.. I'm going a bit overboard here, but seriously, I felt pretty burnt by the SONAR X1 (DAW 2.0!!) upgrade. Knock it off with the marketing crap, and get down to business. X1 is a step in the right direction, but it was released far, far too early IMO. And I'm pretty darned sure that Cakewalk knew it. If they didn't, well.... I'll leave that one alone.

I am trying out the S1 demo will be working with it today. I wold just like to say that like many I see the potential in Sonar but thats where the problem lies it's always seeing the potential year after year after year potential. I hope that they do get there act together...If I were they I would hold out on x2 until it can compete with the new boys in everyway or else it will be flop city again. (especially if its going to be a bugfest) that will tip people right over the edge especially with options like we got now. They are going to have to do sum real summing. The yearly cycle or greed whatever you want to call it has really caused a real big dent for me. Personally I think that if your going to play games just to get peoples money, (like what they have been doing waving the carrot then sayig they will fix the carrot just to get more money from you) I say that one day you will get your come uppence and I think this day is coming unless Cake start to play fair with their paying customers and not just siphon money out of unaware users of their DAW.

Well, I certainly won't be buying SONAR X2 (or whatever they call it). They say that SONAR X1 has been the most successful SONAR yet. I would reckon that is fallacy. The true tale will be told by how many people upgrade from SONAR X1 to whatever the next version is. I haven't totally given up on Cakewalk yet. I'll keep my eye on them, but I certainly won't be upgrading anytime soon. Maybe in a few years.

I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I downloaded the s1 2 demo and have been playing with it a bit. I think I could get used to its work flow pretty quick and a few things jump out that are nice. Like the separate lanes for the automation. However they do not have a bridge to use the 32 bit vst/i in the 64 bit host. I could buy Jbridge I guess but why. I will play with it some more to see what else it may offer. I have had pretty good luck with stability using Every version before X1 and with the x1c update things seem pretty stable to me. back on topic for this thread: I have not yet updated to x1 expanded. I may but the new stuff will not do a lot for me. As far as the up coming updates go Cake has already stated there will be more unpaid updates to both x1 and x1ex. The fixes they put into the expanded were needed to provide the new functionality IIRC. So no worries it will come. Sorry for the block text I am using Firefox at the moment.

I don't know if Cakewalk realize how perilously close they are to this point. Awe, Cakewalk's marketing gurus will continue to put it over. Now that they have turned it into DAW 2.0, there will be plenty of Newbies that will swear and be damed it's the best thing that ever was. That is until they really put Sonar thru it's paces and they too have invested a couple of thousand hoping for broken things to be made whole in disapointing update after update, just to realize that they don't give a hoot about you. They are after a younger, more novice user base now. It's obvious that they are not about maintaining their existing longime base that fully expects, no demands, a high performance product.

Interesting - I sprung for it, and the Saturator knob didn't appear as promised. After several calls to tech support, I was advised to completely remove all Sonar traces (wiping out all previous versions), and reinstall Sonar X1(c) and Expanded. The Saturation knob appeared, and actully works pretty well, adding a nice sheen to my classical guitar.... However, my VS-20 is now dysfunctional as a DAW control surface. I downloaded the latest plug-in, and it appears in the list and as an ACT controller; I select it (but VS-20 is not in the preset list, and is set to default). The MIDI activity lights work, but the controls don't move anything. So far, I like the Saturation knob, but I am sure underwhelmed by tech support (especially the fact that I had to remove so much stuff just to get Sonar x1c Producer expanded back.) I have other control surfaces I can use, but would like my VS-20 back (also, pressing the COSM button doesn't bring the editor up like it should).....
