Who came up with idea to arrange all my synth instruments in to folders without asking?

This is not the end of the world, but what in the world??? I wanted to insert software synth and instead of seeing the normal list as it always been, I see some weird folders like Drums, Guitars, Piano, Sampler but the synths are not organized properly. I believe- I had a thread a while ago, asking how to organize things, but I did not expect somebody to organize it for me. I cant find anything now. Is there a way to move things from one folder to another and re-categorize them?

Also what happened with SVT 2 and VST3 folders? It used to offer these folders- this is how I could find my effects. I have 600 plugins and instruments, according to Sonar, which is not true- who knows what it counts- in any case- I have quiet few plugins and I don't need any surprises overnight when I can not find my stuff. Thank you.

Ok, I see now- it is under "Plug-in Layouts"- "Sort by Type" and it sorted by manufacturer. Interesting. I guess I can live with it because this is how I actually store all my synths on hard drive before I install them- I name folders by manufacturer, so it is ok. The down side is- I have to remember who made it before I can find right folder for plugin I need. I like the instruments name list, which is in the views by categories, which I would like to be able to re-0categorize.

I was thrwon by it too. Spent afes trying to find out why ReMatri was there but Breverb was. Then rememebered that ReMatrix is  ProChannel only. I never got on with the plug in manager, but like this new  layout. somethings weren't where I wanted so draggd them to where I did, saved and it was done. Nice.

I've just noticed that if you rename a synth in the Plug in manager, when you add a soft synth, it doesn't use that name on the Track. Is there a way to change the

Can we just opt to use the plug in list we have been managing with plug in manager for the past twenty years? I have the 13 vst(i)s I use listed right where I want them and have no interest in finding them re arranged.

You can use layouts created in the plug-in manager. They're available from the Plug-Ins drop-down menu.

Please consider reading the eZine that accompanies each new release that describes how the new features work. For example, you can do things like use the new features in the Browser to populate the plug-in manager with a new, categorized default plug-in layout.

The bottom line is you haven't lost anything, and gained lots of options that weren't available before.

As to whose idea it was to categorize plug-ins, blame Steinberg . They came up with the VST3 spec. However SONAR lets you modify the categorization, so you have the best of both worlds.

Actually what I appeared to lose was custom names for VSTs...like Kontakt 8-out, Kontakt 16-out, etc.

A. Someone who reads the manual
I thought- ability to figure things out without manual is a sign of experience and sharp mind. I never ever read the manual. The habit to figure things out came from old days when I could not read English and there were no manuals available in my language. The only manual I read is installation instructions because different software likes different locations, folders and settings. I still don't know how to switch my NI Komplete Kontrol keyboard's MIDI channels. So I have to use new instance of Kontakt every time I need new instrument, while with my previous controller I was just changing a MIDI channel on keyboard and insert new library in to the same instance of Kontakt. I had Kontrol manual open for a month on my music computer, but had no time to find the MIDI channel section. If somebody just tells me how to change MIDI channel, it would be great... Time is very tough.

I highly doubt it, the online manual is the one that gets updated pretty much instantly.

I noticed that too.  You can name them back in the plugin manager but doesn't show up that way in the synth rack.
