I think Justin Bieber is a good singer. At least he refuses to use autotune. We can make fun all we want but who's laughing all the way to the bank? It's not me.

indeed, good luck to him

can't say i have ever heard any of his songs, at least not knowingly, like i have never purposely listened to any, may well have heard some without knowing, so can't say anything about his singing, but i imagine he must be able to, and much better than i.

as to the other gentleman, well i have heard him speak in interviews and such, that was enough to leave no desire to ever hear him sing.

A few weeks ago, I lent my car to my daughter. Of course, when I got it back the gas tank was empty, the side mirrors were aimed at the ground and my radio stations had been re-programmed.

When I turned on the radio, there was some Top 40 Countdown show on. As a teenager, I never missed Casey Kasem's weekly American Top 40 show - but the last time was in 1968. I suspected I might be a little out of touch, so I decided to listen to the countdown and see what the kids are listening to these days.

As expected, much of it was hard to listen to. Then a song came on that was tasteful, clever, well-produced and featured a singer who was obviously young but with a surprisingly mature, controlled and nuanced voice. "Maybe there's hope for future generations after all", I thought. Well, I'm sure you've guessed the punchline already; it was indeed Mr. Bieber.

Needless to say, that caused a disturbance in the force that deeply troubled me all the way through the next commercial. Then I switched to NPR and forgot all about it until just now.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Yeah, all joking aside, I've heard that Justin really IS talented and he's definitely the celebrity's celebrity to be idolized by his target market and laughed at by us older folk.

Rewind a few decades and you could insert several names in that sentence (including Ozzy).

'Tis how things work I guess!

Kanye, on the other hand, is nothing but a dumb-as-a-rock, talentless asshat with a big mouth.  (My apologies to rocks for the insulting comparison.)

Does he?  That's impressive then.  I'd figure after his last few years of incessant partying he'd be damaging his voice, but that's just my guess.

I read an article recently interviewing a producer who said that 95% of popular music has pitch-shifted vocals, and that most singers don't want it.  However, he corrects the vocal tracks when they're not around and doesn't tell them.
