I've never heard of it, but it looks like it's just a repackaged Myer's-Briggs Type Assessment.

Yes, I think Myers-Brigg based their work on work that was contemporaneous with Dr Martson's. IIRC, The Myers Brigg indicator was formalized about 20 years after Disc was being used. It's my impression that DiSC has been used in a more hands on manner to influence management of persons or to conduct negotiations. I was taught DiSC within the context of making sales presentations with a focus on learning to mirror the prospects profile so as to maintain their comfort zone. I've found it interesting over the years. best regards, mike

I've run into it a few times over the years, though typically as a connection to another system - the Myers-Briggs typologies, mostly. A lot of the training I've had taught us to use it (DiSC, MBTI, etc.) as an interpretive support in relational contexts. They can be amazingly effective tools in conflict management/transformation for a person serving as a mediator who has to keep people communicating with each other even when there are differences in expression and perception. I've also found them to be very helpful in premarital counseling sessions when teaching about understanding the other person's "meta message" - what we say "between the lines" as opposed to direct communication. I'm babbling, sorry, it's one of my interest areas and a big part of my vocation. Carry on.

I applied for a copier technician job and the company based whether or not they hired you off a psychological assessment. I could see that for a manager's position in a big company, but a copier tech?

:) No can do. They hired someone else. They were looking for someone to work on 100 + copy per minute production machines and I have no experience on those monsters. Nor do I want any. Ya ever seen any older guys working on copiers? Most die of some horrible form of cancer from all the toner, developer, chemicals, in their early ~ mid 50's, and the smart ones quite before that and get a job at Wal-Mart. :) That's why the high volume guys get paid 60 ~ 70k per year, nobody wants to do it ...

Not familiar with DiSC but as I've mentioned before I think I am and have been interested in this for quite some time. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourth_Way_Enneagram There are many schools of study relating to the enneagram these days and much conflicting views the two main ones being; Riso/Hudson http://www.enneagraminstitute.com/ and Palmer/Daniels http://www.enneagramworldwide.com/ Both also offer some kind of typing which show strong similarities between the two schools of thought. I've done a fair bit of study and attended workshops on the subject mostly in the Palmer narrative tradition to date. I don't view it as a 'typing' method nor as a spiritual 'elixir' but I have found it useful, perhaps even helpful in helping come to terms with me and those around me. At the very least I'm fascinated by it.

I've got information on one of the enneagram (which is just a fancy term for a 9-sided polygram) programs. If I remember correctly, it said there were nine different personalities plus one Bapu. It made sense at the time. (or did it?)

I just tried to take the enneagram test and I was stymied by the number of questions that I couldn't definitely answer because both choices seemed equally compelling. Now, I wonder who got a phd studying that reaction to the test?
