I just realized that you'd probably need something like a Melodyne DNA feature instead of V-Vocal as the percussion track will appear polyphonic at the output.

best regards,

Depends on the type of clip it is now. Try changing it to something different to the present and changing it back to the type you want.

Yup did that - no change

Thanks,

I was hoping this problem was solved by now... Oh well...

Any chance of posting this project up somewhere? You could to a saveas and in the saveas file get rid of all the other stuff and just leave behind the problem track. I'd be interested in seeing this first hand.

I can post it tomorrow to an FTP folder on a site I have.  I will post the download details for pulling the project off tomorrow when I put it out there for download, and THANKS.

I will spend some time today stripping the project down to that track, and switch the drum synth from Battery 3.

Thanks for looking at this.  I hope it isn't something dumb I am doing or missing, but I cannot figure it out.  No other tracks in the project have this issue.

I have Battery 3, so no need to strip, unless you've used extensive tweaks Bob. Having said that, I don't suppose it matters either way cos it's only the MIDI track we're interested in.

I'd also be interested to know if, once you've done all the stripping, if that in fact "fixes" the problem. You never know...

Send a copy of the .cwp to Noel too.

Corrupted projects can sometimes be the most useful to look inside of.

Bob, is the track in question still connected to Step Sequencer? If it is...right click on the midi and do a "bounce to clip". This will get rid of step sequencer and you should be able to delete your events. Not positive it will work, but it's worth a try.

I'll try that tonight.  I am just about certain something in SS is jazzed up for that track.

Good idea.  Whatever the problem is, it'd be good for the Bakers to see the project in it's current state.

Yeah - sending to the Bakers is a fabulous idea.  I just got home and in quite a lot of pain - I had a new hip a month and a half ago, and that's fine, but my right knee was what was going to have been done, back in November, til the hip pain got so bad.  My right knee is beyond toast, 25 years of pro and semi-pro basketball and I am now paying the price big time.

Anyways, the point of that is I think I am too wiped out to do anything with this tonight.  I will wake up and see if I can get this out there for inspection by you guys, and I want to try bouncing to get it out of connection with SS.

Thanks SOOO much for you guys helping me out here.  I really want to get this midi track fixed correctly.  It's I believe a midi first cover of Bill Bruford's Fainting in Coils - CRAZY good prog tune from 1978.

Re:Why can't I delete an event? 2013/01/03 05:44:08 (permalink)
Okay Bob.

I must admit, having read through the previous posts, that I thought you had already tried bouncing the SS clip. If that fixes it then great, we'll look forward to the finished product. If not, then as soon as you're able, get the file FTP'd :-)

BTW, I thought my knee problems were bad, having been told that I'm a fifty year old with eighty year old knees, all on account of being knocked of my motorcycle three and a bit years ago. Doc says I've got to keep on taking the pain killers for now, but, as you well know, the pain killers can only do so much...

Yeah - too much pain last night - will do after some pain meds and coffee.

Thanks ALL you folk, I will post back in an hour or so with the results.  I would imagine this would fix it, as I truly believe something in either how I am recording or something with the odd meters, or the drum map, or something in the SS, or some combination is jazzing this up.  In this project it only happens on this one track.

Sooo, meds, coffee, bounce, post, avoid the ex (She knows I got paid today - yikes).

Re:Why can't I delete an event? (Work-around found) 2013/01/05 06:59:32 (permalink)
Update - sorry it took so long.

I backup up the original project folder, then opened up the project and did a bounce to clip, and that resolved the issue with editing events, as well as seeing data in the PRV.

I will upload a stripped down version of the project to my web site later this morning, for anyone to look at, as the SS-created midi track is somehow jazzed up.  I have to contact the hosting service and either get them to change the hosting plan back to what it was when I signed up for it (they dropped SQL Server with no warning), or I have to switch hosting sites prior to uploading the project.

Anyways, at least I have a work around with the bounce to clip approach, THANKS to all you have helped here,

Bob Bone

Re:Why can't I delete an event? (Work-around found) 2013/01/08 12:26:56 (permalink)
OK - I got an email back from tech support on this issue.

1.  It is intended behavior not to be able to edit midi clips in Event List for clips that were created with Step Sequencer.  (This should be noted somewhere in the documentation, but to the best of my knowledge is not.  I will submit a feature request or whatever they call it).

2.  There IS already a bug logged where if a midi clip is created using a drum map, it messes up opening up the clip again in Step Sequencer.  If I had been able to edit in SS, I never would have tried using Event List - but at least they are aware of this issue - and knowing it is caused by using the drum map within Step Sequencer, I now know how to continue without having this issue - just don't use a drum map with SS.  The email indicated but did not commit to - a potential for a fix in the next round of maintenance.  Hope it is there, but knowing how to avoid the issue in the meantime is fine - THANKS Cakewalk folks :)

And I did indeed bounce to a clip and it disconnected the events in the track from Step Sequencer, and I can now edit to my hearts content using Event List or PRV.

Sooooooooooo, I am back on track, and that's cool.  I already fixed the errant events in my drum track - so onward and sideways :)

Bob, if it's the bug I'm thinking of then opening the clip a second time will open it in the SS, it only fails on first attempt. That's the one I've seen anyway although in fairness I haven't tried that in X2a yet.

Another thing to check.......
