Why system specs are important when asking for help

I see a lot of people asking for help with a multitude of problems without posting their system specs.  Sometimes a problem may simply be not knowing how to use or access a certain function, in which case, system specs aren't necessarily important.  But, in many cases the problem is systematic where the hardware doesn't play nice with the software, and this is when posting your system specs can help veteran users diagnose a problem.  My advice to new users or forum members is to post your specs when asking for help, especially if you're experiencing crashes or glitches.  That is why many of us post our specs in our signatures so as to help speed up the process when we have questions of our own.  This isn't bragging, but rather like providing x-rays to your doctor.  I hope this helps.

Stay thirsty...

All the best,
Lynn

Good advice Lynn but I would add to that,
to save yourselves writing it out for each post, put it in your signature
then you need only ever write it the once.

    Great thread!

Believe it or not I have read where a poster when asked to provide specs has asked why.

Or as has happened when the poster does provide specs after being asked to do so will not post them in one post but needs to be asked multiple times for specific specs.

One point is the need for graphics card specs with Vista and Win 7. This can be important in finding a reason for some problems.

Thanks Lynn for bringing this up. Very topical!

    Good stuff Lynn! :)

Newbees and users asking questions, please try to cooperate in accepting this advice.

Listing your system specs can also draw you more help from forum users, as some don't want to take the time to ask you to list your system specs, and it speeds up the process and time it can take to receive help with your problem.

And I hope evryone enjoys their time here. :) I sure do.

This is great advice, but where exactly is it located?  Since I don't have Home Studio, I never saw your excellent post.  Both these posts should be a sticky on the X1 forum.
