Why won't M-Audio MidiSport work with X3

Who's playing bad with others? X3 or M-Audio. What I need seems simple enough: a midi interface connecting MIDI from my keyboard to my computer. Is this super-high-tech stuff? Does anyone know of as MIDI interface that actually works (I'm not interested in any that don't)?

I tried the Roland UM-1, and that no longer works since I upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1. Yikes, this must be really high-tech. Robots will rule the world before I find a working MIDI interface.

Thanks,
Mike

I'm using a MIDISPORT 4x4 with X3 which now works great. I say now because when I first switched to Windows 7 it was a disaster. The problem was with the drivers and it took them a while to sort those out. If IRRC I literally had to re-install them on every system boot to get them working.

I would suggest that you're now experiencing the same but with Windows 8. Have you checked their website for driver updates? Unfortunately there's not much else I can suggest. I wasn't impressed at all with their apparent lack of "up-to-date" support and it was enough to put more off buying anymore M-audio gear in the future.

It's working well for me now but it was a real pain for a long time.

My MIDISPORT 2x2 has been rock solid for somewhere around a decade now, from Windows XP to Windows 7 64; from SONAR 1 to SONAR X3e.

Unfortunately I can't comment on the Windows 8 series...

No problems with Midisport 2x2 using Win 8.1 (64 bit).

I don't remember (sorry) if I had to install the drivers, or if the drivers have been installed automatically the first time I plugged in the usb cable.

If I recall correctly there was no need to install any drivers for the MIDISPORT 4x4 as they are already part of Windows operating system. It was literally plug and play for Windows XP Pro, Windows Vista and Windows 7 with zero problems for me.

I just checked device manager on Windows 7 x64 and it shows it is using drivers from Microsoft.
I'll also add that it has worked perfectly with Sonar 8 thru every Sonar producer version since.

Can't recall why now it was a long time ago but I couldn't get it working with MS drivers. Still on M-audio here. I'm sure I was involved in a thread here about it at the time. I'll see if i can dig it up....

Found my old thread on it. Turns out that was possibly an issue with Sonar 8 which probably isn't much use to the OP.

My Midisport 8x8 crapped out on me about six months ago. It just wouldn't play nicely with Windows7 anymore. Rumor is that there was a bad chip or firmware in the 8x8 series - mine was an old midiman unit - that I don't think exists in the modern m-audio units.
I switched to an iConnectMidi4+ and love it. Works flawlessly for connecting my hardware with my Mac, PC, and iPad, simultaneously.

I've a Midisport 2x2 "anniversary" that has never worked properly post Wn Vista. Under Win 7 it kind of worked but scrambled sysex and NRPNs. That's using either M-Audio's driver (necessary for multi-client operation) or the generic Windows MIDI one. The only driver that worked at all under Windows 8 was the M-Audio one for Windows 7, not the later driver Win7 release.

This is nothing to do with Sonar as I had the same problems with it in Sonar, MidiOx, Soundtower's Mopho editor and Live Lite.

As M-Audio have been passed from owner to owner over the last few years their driver support, both in terms of general quality and keeping up with new versions of Windows, has steadily got worse and worse.

I've given up an M-Audio. Too much stuff that they've abandoned driver support for or expect you to wait years for a driver that works with the latest Windows. I switched the M-Audio for a MOTO MIDI interface and all the MIDI problems went away.

What is your midi device?  I thought I read in your other thread that you were trying to connect an M-Audio Axiom.  If that's the device you are trying to connect, why wouldn't you just connect it via USB?
