Backups can be an issue, and space is a problem ... but then ... most backups are not setup properly and people are also backing up the programs and Windows and the kitchen sink, and that is a waste of space and time. 
 
For me, I keep ALL of my work in two folders and that's it ... I only need to back up those two folders and I have a copy of it on another computer, and I have 2 of those things where you can put in old hard drives, clear them, and use them as backups if I want any more copies. 
 
Almost all of my writing is in 3 places, none in a cloud, although I have to admit, maintaining one OFF the premises is something I have not done as yet, and will consider very soon.
 
I've lost my share of work over time, and that's that. The Cloud services are like Cable and DSL ... the minute you end the service you lose everything, and I hate the attitude that those companies take towards your email, for example, and they do the same thing for any cloud, since it is the same basic folks and ideas. There is no respect or attention to detail in terms of your own thing, and I have seen over the years hundreds and hundreds of people lose personal stuff on emails alone, because the account was closed and ended and the customer had things saved on their email account.
 
For this reason, I am fussy on this stuff and will not trust ... clouds ... in any shape or form, until the small writing states that it will protect my work ... which they DON'T. (We haven't even discussed stealing, and it seems that Microsoft is on the way to doing that if you use their cloud! Their new thing with the Office and Clouds is downright scary, but it is not designed for people with desktop computers, and that part makes sense, but that pre-supposes that folks that have a desktop don't know crap anyway, and that is even more scary when we hear these stories about ... backups! 
 
Sounds like a bad band, already!

I did not go through the whole thread yet, but I am wondering: has anyone noticed Drop Box slowing down their computer?

I use drop box mainly for pdfs so I can get to them from my tablet when I away from my PC.  I always exit the PC app, starting up when I need a sync done, then exiting again when it's complete.
 
So the answer to your question in my case is "No"

Thanks, Bob. I didn't think that it was slowing me down, but wanted to another opinion about it. I've got another question that's more Win10 oriented, I think. Cmd.exe keeps showing up in a little box, usually very quickly. It used to show up and really slow down my computer (that problem I did take care of). Any idea why this is or how to check what it is?
