Elffin If a deadline was given ... they should stick with it... thats the only reason I purchased the lifetime update.
Part of the inquiry was will there be a lifetime update option. Let's say it's $199 but $398 after that. Those are what I'm about.
Sonar Platinum, W7 Pro 32GB Ram, Intel i7 4790, AsRock Z97 Pro 4, NVidia 750ti, AP2496 Sonar Platinum, W7 Pro, 16GB Ram, AMD FX 6300, Gigabyte GA 970 -UD3 P, nVidia 9800GT, Guitar Port, Terratec EWX 2496

Not so much as in what is their future plans of lifetime updates. I'm not on the fence. My answer has to be no. What if it becomes a part of Sonar where a lifetime upgrade is $299 or there is no upgrade other than a new license without an upgrade discount and call it Sonar Lifetime Edition. I know some are desperately trying to turn this into a rant or complaint. My curiosity is where are they going with this. "Cakewalk can do whatever they want to do , I'm OK with that." I don't get this at all. The largest group on that bandwagon are those who don't even use Sonar. Once again it is not a rant or complaint.

kennywtelejazz This question has become the pebble in my shoe that just wont go away no matter how many times I stop , take the shoe off , and toss the pebble . The Pebble just keeps reappearing in my shoe and it keeps causing me a foot blister When Cakewalk announced that deal I had a feeling that I may be S .O. L. on being able to pull the trigger during the deals time window ... I have been saving up to meet an additional financial deadline that starts Sep 1st and comes to a close in Oct .... My new drivers license , 2 cars registrations , Smog inspections w possible repairs , 6 months up front on my Auto and Apt insurance , new yearly dog tags for the pooch , my license to pack , and a freaking partridge in a pear tree the last one was for a dramatic relief This outlay totals out close to 12 to 13 hundred minimum above and outside of my normal monthly expenses... Sorry Cakewalk , as much as I would like to just buy my upgrade right now I can't , I have no wiggle room on the time line concerning the above mentioned responsibility's... I am being forced into having to chose to take a calculated risk and play the hand I have been dealt ... If you happen to decide you want to throw me a bone and give me the opportunity to spread out the 199 over a couple of months starting from anytime from right now I'm in ...if that is not possible I'm gonna be OK w no hard feelings since that's the hand I was dealt .... all the best , Kenny
I can relate. $1100+ for emission work. At the same time it may be a blessing to learn to be content and go for having no debt. Sonar is not my main DAW but if possible I would fork over $199.
I'm glad you get it .. Yes it is a tough one for sure ...just got done with a round of unexpected car repairs last month myself ... As far as having no debt ...Yup that's how I roll knock on wood ...hope it stays that way kitekrazy1

Well , I only meant that post within the context that the deal is still on ...who know what the future may bring . As far as my thoughts and feelings regarding Cakewalk can do what ever it want's to do ...I'm OK with that ... A couple of things , let me start with the forum first ...some of the most heated exchanges I've seen here on the forum involve people that don't work for Cakewalk telling Cakewalk exactly how they should be running their company I don't know , lets just say my feeling is if a person is so gifted why not start their own company , run it the way they see fit and just be done with it .......is that so far fetched a concept ? ... My comment in proper context regarding the use of SONAR , I use SONAR ... Home Studio 2 was my personal introduction to a Cakewalk DAW and my first non tape , or non HD digital recorder . As far as whether I use SONAR today yes I do use SONAR as much as I can , I know it better than all the other programs I have ... My approach has always been as a player first....Those skills and keeping them sharp are not platform dependent In secret I constantly wrestle with the feeling that I'm sort of like a jack of all DAW's and a maser of none .... Kenfucius say it is better for man to make joke about his Imaginary limitations (the ones he can change ) in public and laugh out loud among friends than hide joke silently even from himself and wonder in secret who laughs and snickers behind his back hang tight bro ,, Kenfucius

dcumpian I certainly hope so, at least for a good long while. Otherwise, it really lowers Cakewalk Marketing's credibility when they say "limited time offer". Dan
Me too. I'll be annoyed if I outlayed money at this difficult time to find out the offer re appeared every 6 months. Companies like sample modelling don't ever shift their prices, stating it feels unfair to those who pay te full price just before a cut. I respect them for that, I just wish their prices were a little more managable. Yet XLN stuff I know I can wait for December and pick up some packs at half price. All this does is leaves me without stuff at time I fancy it, and XLN without the money they could have made. Again if they adjusted the balance a littkle they probably wouldn't need to go on sale.
Sounds like a response based on selfishness. Someone will get the same thing. How does that effect you? This makes no sense unless it's all about me.
Rubbish! A deadline was given for a 'spacial' offer. I am in a 'difficult' situation as stated, and had to take a financial risk. It's not about whether someone else gets the offer at a later date. It's about the fact I would rather of not paid out right now. I am not in a stable situation, but I weighed things up and went for it. In 6 months time, I'm hoping to be in a more comfortable situation. If the offer reappears in 6 months, it won't be a special offer at all it's been hyped to be (remember the pre annoucment) and I ill be annoyed that I was led to believe it was and took that risk.

I maybe talking at cross purposes. My understanding is that the lifetime option is available after August, but it's the special offer that won't be. It's the special 'Introductory' offer that I'm referring to.

Selfish response again. Why would anyone care? I could understand that if a few months later it was offered for $179. Stay away from gaming. You will live a miserable like when you buy the 1st release with lame DLC and everyone else picks it up at 60% off and a season pass. I can't believe someone would react like this.

Cake announced : Act now! Lifetime Updates are available for purchase only until August 31st, 2016" Lifetime updates for purchase are available only til August, not the special price. So it is obvious that the lifetime updates offer disappears after August 16

This statement is why a number of people updated now and not later.
Its nothing to do with being selfish. I would love to purchase 20 copies for my school - but I havnt - since SV hasn't been updated and cant spend precious resources on something that might or not happen.
Cakewalk have given everybody nearly two - three months to purchase it.
Cakewalk have been fair and will need to have income after the deadline.

What are you on about gaming? I don't know what you are talking about What do you mean why would anyone care. I'm not saying anyone should care about my circumstance, I'm just saying why it would bother me if I risked my situation, took a gamble on what seems like a one off offer, but wasn't. Sounds like your being the selfish one. Maybe you'd be bothered when you haven't taken the opportunity then felt unfair that I did, and don't have the choice to. Even though you did. The representatives don't really explain much on here, haven't you noticed?

Part of the major motivation in buying the "Lifetime Upgrades" is the risk that the clock could run out on August 31st and we may never see a deal like this again. Giving information about what their plans are after August 31st could remove some of this motivation. So I am thinking you will probably have to wait until after August 31st to see what their plans are.

My problems with this is, giving the type of costumer service that a lot of us have been receiving lately why would anyone pay for a lifetime update. What are you paying for? Update right, but no support.... I'm having issues now with an update I've tried calling and tried to private message no response. So for me my plans are to start looking else where. I'm stuck now because I have invested in Sonar for many years and I can get around in the software. Switching is going to take some time, both in learning and finances. I really like the product, but giving the service that I've been receiving lately looks like it's time for change :( and like I've seen posted, where is Cakewalk going with this?

If they're not saying anything definitive, it's probably because they have nothing definitive to say. I don't know for sure what will happen after 8/31, but they still have three and a half weeks to figure it out.

Yes, I tried both of those things. I've even re-booted my machine. I have not tried an offline activation. I don't know what that is, but it seems to me if the product were active, "My Account" would reflect that since it's separate from my machine.

@irgroup and BrianKW... You guys should start your own threads or just PM one of the Bakers here to get their eyeballs on it. Not trying to be a forum cop. Just saying that your posts are likely to get buried in this rather strange thread and not get the attention needed... despite Ken's helpful efforts. Good luck. PS: Supposedly Cakewalk are trying to work out some fixes to the current support woes so don't lose hope yet.

I took at look at your case and it's a very oddly specific corner-case. Someone will be in touch with you. I've said it a few different ways on various forum discussions but everyone should know that our support department is still active. We realize very much that it is nowhere near fast enough right now, and this is because of a simple case of demand outweighing supply. To combat this, we are hiring and training new support representatives as we speak. These things take time, but we hear you loud and clear, and we are working on it. For more info, I encourage everyone to visit this announcement page.

Hi MArwood , It is always a pleasure to talk with you , I'm genuinely happy for you that you got the deal you got .... Like you I upgraded to SPlat very late !... My Splat upgrade happened in December of 2015 , so I still have a few months left on it .... Yes , I have checked my account while logged in and my upgrade price to Lifetime is set at $199 ... As far as wishing my price was lower , Yes it may be a wish I may hold , but in all honesty I feel Cakewalk has been very good to me over the years as far as pricing goes this may be a lot of info for people to digest but I'm gonna state it anyway.. How could I possibly be upset with The Cakewalk pricing structure ? I'm not like a fanboy or anything, but lets face it ...the truth I ran SONAR 6 PE in XP from around 2006 up until October of 2013 when I upgraded to X3 PE .. I was able to finally upgrade my SONAR 6 to X3 only due to having purchased a brand new Win 8 computer .... I happen to honestly feel that Cakewalk was very fair to me because even though I had missed many versions of SONAR ...ex.....7 , 8 , X1 , X2 .When it came to my pricing for my upgrade from SONAR 6 to SONAR X3 , The fact is , it was a low two hundred price point of reentry to become current ... I kicked in an extra 30 bucks because I wanted to have the X 3 install discs .... I'm speaking to the general populace when I say this .... Cakewalk at that time gave me a smoking deal ...they could have stuck it to me real hard on pricing ...they didn't ... All this even after 6 or 7 years ! ....what do I have to complain about ? folks , sorry about the history lesson , all the best, Kenny

I won't be purchasing the lifetime updates. To be frank, I am really happy with SPLAT as it is now! (I could not care less about the 'themes' available - purely cosmetic. I love Tungsten!) I really can't see how this product can be improved for what I need it for. Just want to say that Sonar Platinum is amazing - gives me everything I need. I salute you bakers! :)

kennywtelejazz This question has become the pebble in my shoe that just wont go away no matter how many times I stop , take the shoe off , and toss the pebble .
I'm pretty much in the same boat. It would be nice if they'd extend the deadline a couple of months.

Keano66 I really can't see how this product can be improved for what I need it for. Just want to say that Sonar Platinum is amazing - gives me everything I need. ...
That is until the Bakers add something amazing that you or I would never have thought of. For example, I can imagine kicking myself if I had not purchased the lifetime update before Aug 31st and then later on in a few months, the Bakers decide to release that cool feature that allows you to display that all on one page routing diagram for your project.... (hypothetically speaking, of course)

kitekrazy1 Selfish response again. Why would anyone care? I could understand that if a few months later it was offered for $179. Stay away from gaming. You will live a miserable like when you buy the 1st release with lame DLC and everyone else picks it up at 60% off and a season pass. I can't believe someone would react like this.
Nope you responses were selfish. It's plain to see. You also want to push this in another direction as a rant. Mine was nothing but an inquiry. Haven't you noticed?

It doesn't matter to me. I just want to know if they are considering making lifetime updates part of Sonar. If it was the price of a SPLAT license it's would still be a deal. They only one that beats that is FL Studio and probably Reaper.

kennywtelejazz This question has become the pebble in my shoe that just wont go away no matter how many times I stop , take the shoe off , and toss the pebble . Yes I have to admit it , this is certainly a tough one I'm not gonna tread lightly with what I'm gonna say next ....I will be as tactful and diplomatic as I can be ... I honestly wish when Cakewalk announced the 3 month time line for the Lifetimes update deal that they would have given the folks that may have been strapped for fluid disposable cash the opportunity to get in on the deal in the beginning in a way which they could have handled it comfortably ., It would have been nice to have been offered a 3 part payment option , one payment for each month .... A payment for June , a payment for July , and a payment for August .....or get it done w 2 payments what ever This could have been a win win for all the different " levels of the customers " and maybe even Cakewalk Here's the Logic behind my thoughts on this .... The "upper echelon" customers that "were the most loyal " that had the money to jump on board could pay for the Lifetime upgrade with the absolute confidence that the offer itself was indeed an exclusive loyalty offer ( which it still is BTW if you got the bling ) The customers that were not as fluid financially due to what ever their particular circumstances in life may have been could have still felt as if they were a loyal customer had they been given the opportunity to jump on the deal in a way where they could meet their financial responsibility's in life and still get in on the deal paid for within the allotted financial time frame of June through August 31 st Once again I like repeating myself please bear in mind that I am still speaking from the Limited time frame of the offer ... June through August 31 st ..... SONAR users from both customer Loyalty camps would have not lost a thing Why ? because regarding the cost and timeline of the upgrade there would be nothing to fight about.Disclaimer ....I'm only discussing the upgrade price not what may or may not be in the future regarding SONAR and features Guys like Bapu , Dan and others who jumped early because they could , IMHO are righteous enough people , it is my hope that would not be upset with guys like me who would have paid the coin within the allotted time frame ..June , to August 31 st had I been given the opportunity to have been able to have done so .... FWIW, I would have been happy to pay a couple of dollars a month service fee for the added book keeping involved . At my listed upgrade price of $199 I would have been happy to pay $75 dollars a month , that would have made the gross upgrade price I would have paid total at $225 dollars . I would have been totally happy to have put the extra $26 dollars service expense on my upgrade gross ... I'm not saying all this because I like to hear the sound of my gums flapping in the breeze .....I'm saying all this because it is very possible that some people are not gonna be all that thrilled with what I'm gonna say next ... I do hope I'm wrong with what I'm about to say next ...ssshh K.. you know that's....total BS Come September 1 st after all the dust has settled and this thread is long gone . I would be willing to bet that somebody that works for Cakewalk that lives to crunch numbers may have a passing thought while they are sipping their morning cup off coffee in their Official Cakewalk coffee mug .... A possible variation of the thought "I wonder how many more Lifetime memberships we could have sold during our June to August 31 st customer Loyalty Promotion had we given an additional option to some of our loyal members that wanted to upgrade to Lifetime but they needed to do a few payments within the promotions time line to get it done. " all the best , Kenny

Well Kenny you could use a credit card. I've decided not to add more debt. I just wonder of there will ever be other windows of opportunity. Lifetime updates puts them farther up the competition chain.
