Wish me luck!
Doing live sound In front of 2000 people. Doesn't need to be that loud, but I'm a bit scared anyway.

Good luck, but if it all goes sideways with feedback and such, just point at the bass player and shake your head woefully. Randy

A couple of tips Alex Use some great test reference material if you can to tune that PA into the surroundings before the gig. Also watch the bottom end. Don't fall into the trap of having excessive bottom end. It is where most live engineers fall down. They think they need to pump it hard but it just sounds terrible. With the test CD listen for the bottom end. All you have to do there is to balance the bottom end to the rest of the sound that is all. Once you do the rest of the PA will sound a delight and will be great. Once the low end is in correct alignment the rest of the spectrum will speak nicely and much more clearly. On the weekend I heard another idiot live engineer pull a mix that had way too much bottom end. So much I nearly left. The subs were just plain pounding and it was all so unnecessary. If they had been blended back to where they should have the gig would have sounded three times as good.

Thanks Jeff, I'll have Marllion's album Holydays in Eden with me. And you are right about the low end , I listened to some pretty messed up lows just about two weeks ago. Lots of BOOMY kick drum, I thought the bass player had gone home already.

The best trick I learned running live sound for heavy rock bands is. Put all guitars on a sub, and subtly back it off during any vocal work...makes life very easy. Set and forget the drums and bass - let them work with each other, counter ride any guitar solo against the guitar sub-I.E. anytime there is any solo work - the guitar sub gets reduced and the solo level brings it back up to nominal. Simple tricks with a very few faders and levels never get out of hand.
