Understood. I don't really "compare" them though. Jimi was/is unique.

Still, to me, Stevie is one of the few (I can think of no other at the moment) who could have been allowed to touch the material.  Maybe Tommy Bolin if he had ever attempted to.

    But Hendrix remains the master.

We have to compare to make our determination. The problem is once Hendrix did a tune nothing else would compare. I don't know if we agree on that but it's my opinion. I believe that Stevies' version of Little Wing is probably the best
cover of a Hendrix tune I know of and can understand why you brought it up...but just no comparison to me.
When SRV does Little Wing no matter how hard he's tries, he sounds like SRV. And I admire his playing and have learned many of his tunes. But what made both of them great is something nobody will ever be able to cover better.
    It can only be different.
I've never learned a Hendrix tune. I could.....and it would be another cover worse than what Hendrix did.

Really went in this direction because I don't know what the worse cover tune is...not a clue. I do have thoughts
about musicians and bands that can't be covered better so every cover is worse...spacey logic but it's all I have :)

Old55- It's such a great tune and even like this version by such a great player...left cold when compared to Hendrix.
I'd still have a time calling the worse version but no trouble on the best. Some things just can't be better-only different. (not only with Hendrix and this tune...most all my favorites I feel are like that)

Actually, I quite enjoyed that, I liked the extra riffs they threw in. Believe me, a band I was in 15 years ago did a much, much worse version..

Reminded me - The Cure did a cover of Purple Haze. Not sure I'd have forgiven that one if they weren't one of my all-time favorite bands.

It is interesting to hear how Hendrix influenced musicians in all genres, how they understood him, assimilated a little tiny fragment of what he has accomplished. Still, the cover in itself...
