Worst Records You Own?

OK can be CDs or whatever.

I have Lou Reed Metal Machine Music.  It is truly repulsive.  It is made up of little more than guitar feedback.  And, on side 4 (double sided), there is no lead out groove.  So the last track goes forever.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9I5OtlKjzJo

I own King Crimson Earthbound.  It would be a great album if it had not been recorded live on an Ampex 2 track Cassette.  And hot! Easily one of the lowest fidelity albums I own.

    Ouch.

I bought Boy George's first LP after hearing it in a record store WAY before anything became successful.

I've pretty much given away every "bad" disc I've ever bought (unfortunately more than one).  There's a ear for every musical taste, unfortunately not my ear, but someone somewhere will like it so if I made the mistake of buying it, I'd rather someone get joy from it, so I've found someone to give it to each and every time.  I'd have to think about the last one, can't remember it as it was quite a few years ago.

The thing was that the Village People record was a 'present' from one of my mis-guided relatives...I tried to kill the thing but no one wanted to run it over either!!!

Don't own it any more but, off the top of my head, Ugly Beautiful by Babybird. The single that made me buy it was " You're gorgeous" which I loved at the time (1995-ish), but I honestly can't remember a single thing about the rest of the album, apart from the fact that I couldn't care if I never heard it again. The reason that I no longer own it is because it was stolen when my house was burgled (or burglarized if you're American) and I couldn't even be bothered to put it on the insurance claim for the things things that were taken !

Ha, ha ! Funnily enough, I actually did find it in a 2nd hand CD store nr. Bournemouth - not marked as I was never proud of owning that one, but it was in a box of approx 50 "new in" cds, at least 40 of which had been on a shelf in my lounge a week before that ! Coincidence ? Probably not !

I remembered the last album I gave away because I made the mistake of actually buying it - it's been quite awhile.  I gave it to a co-worker who thought it was Black Sabbath's crown jewel (needless to say I died a little inside when he told me that).

    Black Sabbath "Forbidden"

Tony Iommi and Iced T should never be uttered in the same sentence let alone appear on the same record.

It's been a long time since I've bought an album unheard what with streaming music services and Amazon samples available to get a feel for an album before purchasing.  Even with a subscription to a streaming service I still purchase discs I really want and I still purchase quite a bit of vinyl so sometimes I've had things in multiple formats as well.

NAh, this is all good stuff you're listing here!

My brother gave me Addis Black Widow for my birthday one year - I don't know why! The CD has never been out of it's case but I still keep it around just so all my other CD's are not the worst in my CD shelf.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3-FuOCru2Q

(My sincere appologies to expose you all to this)

However, one of the worst CD's I've ever bought my self that I actually intended to like, was this:

It had one song I liked to listen to - but it was just because it was silly.

(BTW - Just noticed that I've gone gold??!! Not that it matters and so forth but you know... )

I wish I could remember the name of a crappy cd I bought, if for no other reason to warn others not to buy it.

It was some kind of new age mood stuff and it was literally one note for the entire cd.

Wish I'd have thought of that.

Best I can remember is that I tried to see how far I could throw the thing.

THe village peope would be hard to beat as the worst record...... but I have 2 I'd like to submit....

Horse Lipps  and String Driven Thing.

I obtained them both with a phone call to a radio station give away.... they were not worth the time to go and pick them up.  I listened to every song...well at least the first 20 seconds.....and I do not think I listened to a complete song on either album...... they were horrible.

I won a bunch of albums from this particular radio station.... including the blue vinyl version of ELO Out of the Blue..... classic album.

Worst quality- a bootleg live Neil Young album. Sounded like it was recorded with a cassette deck from row 188.
Worst studio albums- the second Frijid Pink album (Defrosted), followed br the first Frijid Pink album.

Thats easy: Bay City Rollers (bought as a birthday gift by my mom), Till Tuesday (Voice Carry), bought because one song was good, rest of the album err... not so good, and White Town (Woman in Technology) - same as Till Tuesday, though Be Your Woman is still a favorite song of mine (though odd for a man to be singing this cover).

Thats easy: Bay City Rollers .
That would do it for sure. The BCR used to be one of the bands that played in the Tembani Ballroom in Paignton, where I spent many a Saturday night. This was just before they were famous and adopted the Tartan. Someone suddenly gave them an image makeover and did a PR job and they went from the club circuit to No 1 flavour of the moment in a month.

As for mine, Love Beach by ELP, I probably have worst albums, but I was a big ELP fan and this sucked, big time.

I have Love Beach on vinyl.  I don't think I listened to it more than a few times.  I don't know if it's the worst--but it's in the competition.  I have to agree with Space_Cowboy on KC's Earthbound, too.  It's right up there as well.  It sounds like it was recorded on a cheap cassette machine using the built-in mic.

Figures.  I've got two of the albums that someone says are bad above, and they're both pretty good actually.

As for me, in any collection of many thousands of albums, you're bound to have a few real dogs (no offence to Beagle in ten did ), but the one that stands out to me is a John Tesh effort.  My roommate got to help with the sound at one of his concerts as part of a class he was taking, and was given a couple of his CD's at the show.  He gave one to me and, I must say, I've never heard such incredibly bland music in my life.  It tries to be this grandious, orcestral-like texture but fails so miserably.  Yanni is 100 times better.

Time for all of you to head over to Beyond My DAW!

I remember getting the gift wrapped album. I was like cool, a new record. I was completely horrified when I opened it. I was kinda glad that I did not have any friends over at the time. I think I managed to stammer a thank you. Like the good son, I played it too loud a few times until they told me to turn it down. Duty done, I never played it again.

As for mine, Love Beach by ELP, I probably have worst albums, but I was a big ELP fan and this sucked, big time.

Amazing! I used to live in Paignton AND was totally disappointed with Love Beach!

Confession time - I have a Barry White CD somewhere (still in shrink wrap)
