Any Z3TA 1+ can get 2 for $50 or so. cheap price for a "new" synth w/ a bundle of new presets and waveshaping sync. The only way Cake's pay for the features/fix makes sense is they are trying to get paying the bakers while working on the fixes. I would expect the scroll bar and expandability for PC to be included in the next free update, some of the fixes they describe but more as well when they get them fixed. So buyers are getting a few fixes early and the rest will have to wait until all the things they can fix get done. I can understand the above model. Now if Cake with holds bug fixes from the next free update, I'll join the villiagers w/ tourches and burn up Dr. Frankenstien and his monster. That would be stupid is as stupid does. @

John T Ah, right, I see. Thing about bundles is, the bigger they get, the smaller the set of people who want the whole bundle gets. I have the opposite view to yours in that I've got no need for Z3ta 2, so more money on the bundle to include it would be a negative for me. I don't have a need for it either, but from reading, it seems to be well received and I wouldn't be against having it in my folder of soft-synths. It would be simple to market more bundled options - with Z3ta2 and without. The only reason this comes up in my mind is Z3ta2 is already offered in the Production Suite, but not the Producer Expanded or PC4K S-Type.

I'll probably be wrong but this is what I think: Sonar expanded is a one off deal in place of X2. Cakewalk realize that putting out X2 this early (at the normal release time) would cause commotion after all the X1 drama. Now they can iron out the bugs and release X2 sometime next year. it should be solid by then and we will be back to yearly updates again. They can make money until then by people upgrading to expanded. The 3rd party Pro Channel Plugs scheme is a clever little idea not unlike the Amplitube3 addons. The 3rd party will get an upfront fee from Cakewalk and then a cut from each Plug In sold.

BTW I am enjoying X1 and will seriously consider purchasing the Expanded version when it is available. However, you can tell by my previous question that I am new to DAWs and digital recording. So my next question is... What is the difference in functionality between the tube saturation knob in Expanded vs what is already in PC today? Thanks

maxpowerWhat is the difference in functionality between the tube saturation knob in Expanded vs what is already in PC today? The new Tube Sat module's interface looks very '60s which will make the digital signal processing behind it sound "Warmer" and more "Analog" than a similar module with a more contemporary interface like the existing Prochannel module or TL-64... but only if you look at the interface while listening to the effect.

Jonbouy, about my paranoia - it ain't mine but I'm seeing a lot of it on these here boards. The idea seems to be that Cake has fixed every issue with PC but have cruelly added expandablity, forcing us to buy the fixes rather than just give them to the users. My contention in several of these threads that Cake is working on the fixes, has solved a couple and have included those with the "new" and expandable PC they are selling. it is stupid to think they won't include them with the next free upgrade. The only PC "fix" so far ID'ed is a scroll bar for expandablity. They release it as a "free" half-assed upgrade. 1st thing people complain that it didn't include the mysterious on/off problem that the techs said they just got real feedback on. Other people complain that the "fix" introduces a new bug. Others, in keeping with the X1 "we don't need no stinking manual" complain that when they scroll down the PC they can't see the top of it! "How do we see the comp, now? How could Cakewalk take away my PC comp!" Stuff like that. I can understand Cake wanting to fix the majority of PC problems and get it off their punch list. As an added bonus they get to charge for expandabilty and people paying to beta or theta testing it for them. Then they give it to the masses in a free update before moving on to X2 or X15 (my favorite - if you are of a certain age you'll get it). I've never felt cheated by Cake. Again, if you worked with computers from a certain age you'll remember when nothing on the PC was compatable and you got to enter things in on line code. Everything seems majically simple to me these days. I've never encountered really bad bugs in Cake products, knock on wood. Most of the ones I've had I've worked with Cake to resolve or found a work around in my own flow. If I was Cake there are some things I'd have done differently - maybe a lot of them. I like the concept of the PC expanadiblity. I've thought with all the voice effects, drum channels, etc. they provided all these years it would have made more sense to have a basic channel you could plug in things too. It seems they are heading that way, tho how much of the channel code they've written over the last 4-5 years they can recycle is beyond me. Of course, if I was Cake I'd be a failed company, so I don't think I'm smarter than them. But I still wish they would pay more attention to me. @
