Billy - I chose S6 as the migration settings because I chose it for S8 and S8.5 AND because looking at the folders of C:\PROGRAM FILES\CAKEWALK\SONAR 8 PROFESSIONAL and C:\PROGRAM FILES\CAKEWALK\SONAR 8.5 PROFESSIONAL there are no subfolders in each of those folders. just the executable for S8 and S8.5 respecitvely and some dll files, help files and a few other extensions I don't understand. all of the "meat" is still in C:\PROGRAM FILES\CAKEWALK\SONAR 6 PROFESSIONAL. there are many more files in that folder including all of the INS files, kbn files, others, and there are several subfolders in there including DRUM MAPS, MENUXML, METRONOME, PATTERN BRUSH PATTERNS, PRESETS, SAMPLE CONTENT, TRACK ICONS, TRACK TEMPLATES & TUTORIALS. this is the way it was with Sonar 8 and Sonar 8.5 as well. all of the STUFF was in the S6 folder since I chose the S6 folder as my "migration" point. S8 & S8.5 worked fine that way. but X1 is not working, at least for the metronome. I tried copying the metronome folder from S6 into the X1 folder and then restarting X1 but that didn't work either. Craig - what metronome patch file are you talking about? I don't know anything about a patch file.

I'm not sure if there's another way to verify grooveplayer functionality, but if the .dll is there, the problem probably lies somewhere else, though you might try re-registering it with regsvr32. EIDt: But if it's working in earlier versions form the same Shared DXi location, the DLL and its registration must be okay.

Yeah Beagle, is the Metronome working for any version of SONAR you have besides, 8.5, and X1, which you said it's not working in?

I just tried S6 & S8 and it doesn't work in any of the installed versions of sonar.

Beagle, When you migrate, by taking the 'latest' settings (8.x for example into X1) you get the most recent updates in all your INI files (aud.ini, ttseq.ini are important). By taking the ini files from older version, you won't get the benefit of any changes already made in the later version(s). That's why I suggested trying a reinstall with 8.5.x as your migration point. It might get you back the metronome, etc. It's just a suggestion.

I have a similar problem on the X1 trial. The audio metronome doesn't work. In preferences Audio Metronome is checked, but the two boxes for the hi and lo sounds are completely empty - clicking them produces a big drop down of white. 8.5.3 still ok. Any ideas? EDIT - btw, tried an uninstall and resinstall, but no change.

I don't know for a fact but I think there are still some of the early bugs in the trial. The metronome issue was fixed in one of the updates IIRC.

Years ago, I solved the metronome problem in Sonar 7 by upgrading to Sonar 8. There was no cure. Others had it too. It was linked to the groove something or other but had no fix. Apparently workarounds solve the problem because who would want it to just work when you can have workarounds.

And check it still works after you close your DAW down and open it again. In Sonar 7, it worked when you re-installed but didn't the next time you opened it. Fortunately, it wasn't the least bit annoying. No siree.

Curiosity has made me check mine using an audio sound and it's working on my laptop okay, during playback at least. I know the MIDI metronome works on my DAW as I use it all the time, recording at least. I know there were issues with earlier releases but I thought they'd been addressed.

Try toggling the FX button (the bypass all, under the PDC button) If the FX button is on (bypassed), the audio metronome won't work. Just a thought.

Blogman Try toggling the FX button (the bypass all, under the PDC button) If the FX button is on (bypassed), the audio metronome won't work. Just a thought. Nope no change here. In my metronome setup, the boxes to determine the output are still empty. I have just had a moment of clarity. The first thing that made me jump to Cubase was 8.5.3's buggy metronome, never fixed. Now I'm trialling X1, it's metronome doesn't work at all. This isn't progress really, is it? Maybe if I buy it (I'm still on the trial) it will be fixed, but maybe it won't. I've always thought that there was something gloriously symbolic about a metronome not working - if you can't get that most fundamental and basic component right, what hope anything else? There are some nice things about X1, but nothing compelling to make me upgrade. I'll stick to 8.5.3 for now until either X1 improves more or X2 comes out with serious improvements in track height, video working etc. I've been round the houses with Pro Tools and Cubase, there's something wrong with all of them so I may as well just go with the devil I know - it least I work round its bugs quicker.
