X1b installation error - setup files corrupted
I'm getting this error message when I run the downloaded file 'ProducerX1bPatch.exe': Error The setup files are corrupted. Please obtain a new copy of the program. Previous to this, X1 Producer installed without error, and the X1a patch installed without error. I deleted the file and downloaded the X1b patch again (337,651 KB) but I got the same error message. Any idea?

Find a free download manager (I think there's actually one called "download manager"), and use that. Depending on your browser, you might also consider trying a different one for the DL. (I use Firefox without any DL problems).

I had a simular error. Turned out I hadn't installed X1a. If you open Sonar, what version does it display? You may try re-installing X1a, then X1b. That helped me.

Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1, 64-bit. FYI, the X1b file came from a 'yousendit.com' URL that Cakewalk Support sent me, because the published cakewalk.com download URL wasn't working for me (for either X1a or X1b). The X1a file I downloaded from yousendit.com installed fine.

When I run SONAR, the 'about' page says: SONAR X1 Producer (X1a build 197) So the X1a patch did install successfully.

Running 'as administrator' makes no diff - same error. Error occurs immediately upon running the file. I'm going to assume that the X1b file they put on 'yousendit.com' got corrupted somehow upstream of me downloading it. Still can't download the patch from the cakewalk URL using IE8, but the bits are arriving using Google Chrome, so I'll give that a try...

Why burn a DVD? I'm downloading the file to my hard drive and executing directly from there. BTW, I was able to download the X1b file from the cakewalk website using Google Chrome (my IE8 doesn't download the file for some reason). Note that this was from the very same URL that you posted. And... I get the very same error - setup files corrupted. Now I'm thinking that these "setup files" have nothing to do with the X1b download file per se, but are local files on my system that are apparently "corrupted" although I have no indication why that would be... other than this: I still have SONAR 8.5 Producer installed on my system, and I ran it after installing the X1a patch. Could that cause some common files to be viewed as "corrupt" by the X1b patch installer, if 8.5 Producer wrote to some common files? Does Cakewalk support 8.5 and X1 being both installed, as long as you don't try to run both at the same time???

JonD - I beleive the file is a executable file all of us have downloaded. ProducerX1bPatch.exe 337,651 kb Calk - I understand your reasoning but do not know the answer to that. Just for grins, have you re-installed X1a? To overwrite any possible corupt file? Or try a "system restore" to a earlier date or before the X1a upgrade.

Without uninstalling SONAR X1, re-install disk 1, the SONAR X1 program installation disk, then the X1a update, then the X1b update. I had to do this, as the X64 version of X1b wouldn't install for me.

Jumbicat, I did try re-installing X1a, and it ran to completion successfully just like the first time I installed it, but executing the X1b patch immedately afterward still results in the same error message: Error The setup files are corrupted. Please obtain a new copy of the program. I've now downloaded X1b three times, twice from the 'yousendit.com' URL that Cakewalk Support gave me (using IE) and once from the normal cakewalk site (using Google Chrome). All three copies give the same error message. So I'm at a dead end. Curse this. If there was corruption in some core Cakewalk file on my system, why does X1a install successfully, and why does SONAR run ok? That doesn't make sense. And you are correct that the download file is the executable ProducerX1bPatch.exe, so I assume that JonD is thinking about something else.

I got mine (the original X1) downloaded from the link on my account in Cakewalk store, then the subsequent updates X1a & X1b from X1 support site. I've got multiple versions of SONAR installed on my system without any conflicts. 8.5 should not interfere with X1.

Update: I reinstalled SONAR X1 Producer, disk 1, as suggested above (from CD-ROM), reinstalled the X1a patch (from download), then reran the X1b patch (from download). Results: X1 Producer, disk 1: successfully ran to completion. X1a patch: successfully ran to completion. X1b patch: terminated immediately with the error message: Error The setup files are corrupted. Please obtain a new copy of the program. As previously mentioned, I have now downloaded the X1b patch 3 times, and all three produce the same error message. What say you, software vendor? Shall I reformat my hard drive next?

DJSur - Thanks, but I don't see the point of that. I've already downloaded the file multiple times. I think that the file is good. The reference to "setup files" in the error message is ambiguous. Don't know whether that refers to the downloaded 'ProducerX1bPatch.exe' or some other local files required for patch installation.

try downloading the patch again..and run a new one. ..but before you do..if you have windows 7 do a system restore..look at installs..win 7 lets you restore from a download point right before the curuption

its this one you want do the restore from the point right before you tried installing the patch..deleting the patch will do nothing..you need to restore it back to a point when you had x1a in working order.then download it from this link and run it. http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/kb/reader.aspx/2007013233

I think the Op is saying he can run SONAR X1a as a program and the X1a update successfully as a patch, but when he tries to install the X1b update, he gets the error. It seems that the X1b update you downloaded may be corrupted. I wouldn't re-format my harddrive, but I would try uninstalling SONAR X1 completely, then re-installing including tha updates in order. If that doesn't work. It's time to contact Cakewalk. It would be nice if there is somewhere else you could download a copy of the X1b patch. It does seem that the source X1b patch you downloaded is corrupted.

You might want to try emptying your Windows temp directory, rebooting and trying to install again. That kind of error message can be an indication of corrupt files in your temp directory that the setup program keeps choking on.

chuckebaby - I don't need to go back to a restore point, because there's nothing to undo. Observation 1: My SONAR version X1a runs fine; if I reinstall the X1a patch it runs successfully to completion, and My SONAR version X1a still runs fine. Observation 2: the X1b patch returns the "setup files corrupted" error message instantaneously upon execution - nothing is installed. I know that this points to a problem with the downloaded file, but here's my problem with that: Observation 3: I've downloaded the file that everyone else has downloaded. Multiple times. If the file was corrupted why aren't others having this problem? Observation 4: Let's say my ISP is hosing the file somehow. Then why did the X1a patch download and install without any problems? I know the X1b is larger than X1a, but I've successfully downloaded and installed larger files than the X1a patch. Regards

Unless someone has dealt with this specific issue, I'll be calling them on Monday. Thanks

Delete everything that you can and skip the files the system can't delete (they are in use). Reboot and try installing again. Is it guaranteed to work? No. But there's a chance and it's worth a try. Cakewalker: The reason I'm saying it's possible that the source file you downloaded may be corrupted is because, you didn't download that source file from the Cakewalk site we downloaded it from. When the Cakewalk representative uploaded it to the site you downloaded it from, it could have gotton corrupted during the upload. It's been known to happen. It's cases like this where the file should have been archived with WinRAR so you could have tested the downloaded file with WinRAR to see if it tested OK. Anyway, best thing now is to contact Cakewalk, and proceed from there. Maybe they will upload the patch to another place or send you to another download link for the patch.

Calkwalker ... And you are correct that the download file is the executable ProducerX1bPatch.exe, so I assume that JonD is thinking about something else. I didn't know what kind of file it was because I haven't upgraded to X1 yet. Hmm, the only thing I can think of is to uninstall everything, then reboot after each install step. (After X1, then X1a, etc -- sometimes this can make a difference). Wish I had more to add... Good luck.
