Ah... I actually knew that (and have a "k" chip). For some reason I thought it was just the forum software's sensoring again!
Time for all of you to head over to Beyond My DAW!

chefmike8888 ...Cooler = longer life but since the ****k chips are made for OC'ing ...
WTH is a ****k chip?
It's one that's intended for overclocking and made easy for the user to do so by altering some parameter in the BIOS settings. The "k" at the end of the model number distinguishes it from the regular version of the same chip.
The really, really easy part about OCing with my MB is I don't have to get into BIOS to OC. It's specifically designed for that. I do this effortlessly in Win (Via the included MB software) by simply increasing the clock to the desired speed i.e. 4.8GHz, and the MB automatically adjusts the voltage (of course, all the components need to be compatible to allow this to take place....). Even a dimwit like me can easily OC (within reasonable limits) and did do so. :)

Kev, I also have the UAD1e card and was thinking of upgrading to the 2 solo (I know I'm a little late to the party)......is it useful to have the UAD1e with the limited/no support as well as the few plugs that only work in the 1e? Meaning, do you use the plugs from the 1e card regularly? I just wasn't sure how useful it would be to have it alongside with the 2 solo....

I know the feeling all too well Jan.......this build I just finished was in the making in saving cash from the time Sonar 8.5 just came out. I have other family priorities that came first and couldn't afford to put the cash needed for this hobby of mine.....but, I'm still amazed and appreciate the sheer speed/snapyness of this build (which I hope should last quite some time). I'm sure you too will be extremely happy with a new machine......it's just pleasant to be working on. :)

Keeping the UAD-1e means not being able to upgrade to the latest version of the UAD software, which rules out purchasing any of the recently-released plugins. I'm ok with that.

Will you be gaming on this machine also? I have the same HIS 7870 card in my HTPC and it rocks. I have the 7850 version in my DAW and am able t sneak in Starcraft 2 matches, everything on Ultra and maxed out at 2048 x 1152, between working on DAW stuff.

Hi Seth, I've been doing some light gaming on it as well and yeah, this card does rock. It's the my first higher end card I've ever had and I'm very happy with the performance. I've been playing Crysis3 and Tomb Raider (got a bunch of games for free with the purchase of this card) and haven't run into any glitches during play. However, I haven't tested it at Ultra/maxed out yet, but will check it out and see how it handles. I've also hooked up a wireless x-box 360 controller to use on my pc.....much easier than the mouse/keyboard combo (for most games).
