The reason Sonar has this warning is because it is the BEST DAW in the world. The warning is a reminder that it is time to evaluate how you are spending your time, attention, and dollars. I understand acquiring stuff. Just past 60 years. Experience tells me no one will actually use most of what they drag along through life. And the more stuff, the less progress made getting to the feeling of purpose. And having too many bits means not getting way good with any of them. I understand how stuff accumulates. I have many phillips headed screw drivers. Some never used. They came as gifts, or in a bundle, found on the road,.... I have purchased some very small ones and used them few times. The problem has become the amount of time I have spent storing, keeping track of, cleaning, too many of these, and the dozens of other tools that have climbed on the bus. The bus got full. Now spending too much time deciding what must go. Been working on mid-life cleaning for about 15 years. Got more now than in the beginning. So, my comments are advice about how these kinds of "warnings" are not what they seem. "As the crow flies" calls us to ponder. What is important? How do I know? The young and busy often dismiss these interruptions as just annoyances. Be aware. Be very aware. Too many choices is a waste of time. (( Interview with Bruce Swedien in the current tape op:: "I hate compression. I have a favorite saying, 'Compression is for kids.'" ))

I may have missed this, but is there a way of determining how many plugins one has (without manually counting them in the plugin manager)? I have a lot with waves and UAD don't crack, etc. I would like to know how many I have installed, but don't want to count them one by one. Is there a display that gives the number registered?

There are so many comedic bad smart ass innuendos I could post in this thread now but people might hate on me if I did that and we can't have that.

I think the major clue is the probability of duplicate plugs. It seems the Rapture install issue is related to mulitple, not-the-same version, installations of DP. (( I recently deleted about 100 never used, but hard found, bits and pieces. Too many choices. Too little time. ))

jm24 I think the major clue is the probability of duplicate plugs. DOH!!!!! I was sure I said that in post #2. Lemme check. Yup, I said that in post #2. But your rant on us who want to rule the plug world was a cute diversion. Let's do it again sometime, no?

I know you wrote that. I was iterating and summarizing given the many intervening bits. Bapu is always correct. Even when he isn't. Long live the Bapu. In rants are found stories, songs, and reflections of what should be such. Lots of great lyrics in the freds found here.

Could it also be related to the number of items in a folder? I have category sub-folders in my VST folders: distortion, instruments, EQ, misc, tools,... Maybe subfolders would disappear the warning.

Hi,pschoenb, remember logic 5 days ( +-9 years), when logic has a limitation (ca. 300 effects). It´s possible to create mark-folders or so in your vst folder,as above mentioned, so sonar will not repeat this stupid warnings. Peace

SONAR is not actually complaining about how many plugins you have installed. It is complaining about how many plugins it can display in the menus. The error is most common if you are still using the default menu instead of custom menus. The error is also specific to the plugin type eg. effects vs. instruments. For instance, I've hit the limit on how many effects plugins that I can have listed in my custom effects menu but not my custom instrument menu. BTW, a weird bug that SONAR has had across MANY versions is that it will actually stop loading some plugins completely well before you get the warning message. Instead of seeing the warning. the bug will not allow you to load the plugins at the very end of your custom menu. This also includes the built-in External Insert plugin, in fact the quickest way to test if you have crossed the too many items in the menu threshold is to attempt to load the External Insert plugin. If it will not load than you most likely have too many plugins listed in your custom menu. Sub-folders will not eliminate the problem. Only reducing the total number of plugin in the currently displayed menu will prevent the warning and occurrence of the loading bug. -e.B

Yes, that´s what I meant, subfolders , I had a real chaotic scene in my fx folder so I created folders for the different marks (installed then all WAVE plugs for example in the wave folder aso.) Hope you can understand now what ´s meant, sure it´s my bad english! If you are lucky, this will correct it.

e.Blue SONAR is not actually complaining about how many plugins you have installed. It is complaining about how many plugins it can display in the menus. The error is most common if you are still using the default menu instead of custom menus. However, custom menus require manual maintenance, which is also not a very nice solution.
