Names aside... unless I'm mis-understanding you it's definitely working here. I've just opened a blank project inserted several tracks held down control key and changed one of the MIDI outs via the inspector, they all changed.

FBB I just loaded the 16 channel template and it works perfectly. Try loading a MIDI file as a native file and see what happens.

Okay - that was a circumstance I didn't think of.  Well, we're narrowing it down.  I'll take a look with a directly-opened .mid tomorrow.  But what if you immediately save as a .cwp?  Does it start to work from the inspector?

Wow its clearly a MIDI file issue. Bill put me on the right track and I can see how you would not see this as I do.

So to recap First thanks to Bill and Fast Biker Boy I have tentatively found the problem.

Its loading MIDI files as native files that has this problem. It should work but it doesn't. You can change all the outs via the widget in the header but not in the inspector.

Thank you both for your persistence and help.

OK I saved it as a CWP file and closed it than opened it. It gave the same symptom. No global change from the inspector. BTW this a very simple file three tracks with three channels of a Bach song.

I can see the issue happening here...  weird corner-case.  For now, I'll look for some work around for you.  But, if you would be so kind, please submit a problem report so a true fix is considered for a future update.

Are you allowed to say 'Bach' and 'simple' in the same sentence?

Me being kind? Its you that has been kind. You solved it for me. I know that I am not going nuts. I will send a report soon.

Really, you have been wonderful on this forum. I don't think I would have ever found out what was the problem without your intervention. I have been dealing with this ever since X1 came out. I decided to mention it because it was really bugging me the last couple of days or so. When FBB and Noel reported no problem it seemed beyond my ability to understand it. It really is a relief.  Plus I do know a work around.  Use the header widget. This is a lot better than doing each track by hand.

Yes. Lost working space with ridiculously oversized icons, oversized borders etc. Everything could be half the size.

+1. The mixer in particular is far too large. The "bigness" of the X1/X2 GUI is something I'm having a hard time adjusting to. It's like:

"Hey, here's skylight the interface of your dreams..."

"Uhm...then why can I barely see anything?"

It's a poor use of screen real estate.

Hmmm... this was interesting. I've been thinking that whether this works or not is relatively random. However, thinking back it could be when I've imported a MIDI file into a project or opened a MIDI file. And the problem persists even after closing and opening the project. But it works otherwise.

May I add, I've sometimes been able to select all MIDI track and change the input to MIDI Omni on all the tracks. Other times, it will only change the track I am actually clicking on. Could be related. Will investigate.

Also, regarding the original post:  Would it be sufficient to include the recording mode state in the "Punch Module"?  It lived there in 8.5's Large Transport.
Yes, Bill. In fact any display would be fine in any module. Yet it does make sense to put it in the punch module. Is this promising that this feature may be added back in? This has been aggravating for me. Thanks so much for responding.

Another great thing about 8.5 is the ability to have a custom user toolbar. There was a very long list of icons you could add in any order to your own custom toolbar. Or you could eliminate some uneeded icons from the default toolbars. Is this sort of customization in the works?

What about the ability to quick group key +/- ?   That was left out of X1.
