The new snapping feature looks really nice. It was about time they addressed that feature!

I would imagine that there will be an option to use them or have them integrated into a single track if that works better for for the user.

I hope so.   My only experience with lanes was watching someone else use them in Nuendo, and I really didn't care for what I saw TBH.   Then again, this is SONAR so anything's possible!

Just to confirm. Automation lanes are a choice and are merely an enhancement to SONAR's automation system You can use either whenever you want on a per track basis. It's totally flexible.

I think that many users will find automation lanes faster than hunting for the proper envelope and engaging the editing for it.  Once you've got your work done on a track, you hide the lanes and move on.
I agree.

But I also think there are times when having them stacked is nice. The great thing is SONAR now offers both.

This is true.  In a competing product I have constructed a button widget that sits on the Tool bar and I can expose or hide the automation lanes with a single click or shortcut key.  I would think that the SONAR implementation would be similar or as easy as that.

The color table you see is part of the dev kit used to make the clips. It's on the factory side not on the user side. We thought you might like a peak at how we make the cake.

It's almost a relief to hear that.  Just one more thing I would be compelled to learn and play with instead of making music.

On the video there is a toggle button on the track pane to switch track envelope lanes on/off. The video is moving at a fast pace by that point, but the button is there.

I also like the bullet point on the website about an improved, low latency audio engine.

I've not used lanes before but I rather imagine they'll eat up screen real estate rather quickly. At least there's the new old way though. Hoping for a pop up on the ghosted data. Have I mentioned that before?

I would wish for a "Show/Hide Automation Lanes on Selected Tracks" command that I could assign it to a shortcut key or a button on my MCU.

This is by far the coolest marketing trailer for any software product ever. It's futuristic as it can get. It's 2012 but to the Cakemen it's 2112.

Under the "Deliver" icon here http://www.cakewalk.com/SONAR-X2/ one can read: "NEW! MusicXML export" and "Print Notation".  The MusicXML was already included in the X1 Expanded version.  I'm intrigued about the notation printing addition.  Have they finally upgraded the notation function of Sonar?  Fingers crossed.

Hmm... looks interesting however I have a few concerns which I'm hoping aren't going to be a problem for me. And this isn't necessarily meant to be griping but I see this being something that will irk me quite a bit.

So I bought the Production Suite at the start of May. I paid full price for it. Shortly after that (like the next month) all the crazy deals came out. Okay, fine. Just my stupid luck I guess. Now there is going to be a full PAID upgrade. Well I've already blown my budget for DAW stuff. It's gone. No more money except for a few necessities that were on my original shopping list.

My concern is... what's gonna happen to a customer like me? Is X1 going to continue to be supported? If so that's fine. The second issue is if I had known there was going to be a whole new version coming out I probably would have waited. I've essentially paid full price for something that will be outdated after only a few months. Is this going to be considered when X2 comes out? I will be very very disappointed if I get shafted here. It'd be different if I happened to get on board with those deals or had any inkling that X1 was at the end of it's life cycle but I based my purchase on the info available at the time.

Again, not trying to gripe here but it would nice to know what, if anything, can be done for someone in my situation.

I saw someone up thread mention that if they JUST purchased X1 the upgrade will be free. Is that factual? By me buying it in May at full price would I be included in this? I have barely started using the software due to the massive learning curve and hardware conflicts that had not been documented. I understand this is how things work out sometimes but it seems I have basically made my purchase at the absolute worst possible time.

Anyway... I hope everyone is having a good day. Cheers.

what I need is a way to switch effects or channels for real time playing live were a snap shot of channels is activated or deactivated as needs be. For instance I'm a guitarist and I want pod farm live on 2 channels and at a point in the song I want to hit a midi foot switch that sends a signal activating amplitube on a 3rd channel and guitar rig on a 4th channel while deactivating the podfarm channels. If I am using ampsims to record then this is a way I can control the tone live and use the same tone I recorded with. another foot switch might bring on a separate instance of podfarm and a live feed from my roland GR 55. This process would enable us to tour with the same tones we record with and this is a must have feature that we need to have if we are going to use X2 to record guitar parts.

Whoa I'm kinda pumped! Can anyone or has anyone out all the new features that go waaaayyyy too fast I tried pausing and reading each frame but it went too fast and it got irritating.Thanks. I'm excited about new plugins,I have been disappointed with the prochannel plugins(they are OK but like the leveler doesn't do alot, maybe its not supposed to?)the compressors aren't the best either,it would be neat if they had more third party plugins, and besides zeta 2 I was disappointed with guitar rig 4(guitar rig5 is better)perfect space never use it,rapture and dimension pro are complicated, true piano isn't that great either. And I don't mean to sound like a hater cause I am not, sonar is my favorite and I would use it more but unlike reason6,ableton,maybe others you cannot use computer keys to play software instruments and I cant get a portable midi keyboard and I have to work out allot, maybe it has something to do with all they key mapping functions but bieng able to turn it on and off would be really cool.It seems like common sense to me but, when I am out I have to use ableton cause I cannot play my software instruments on sonar. Thanks if anyone helps me

Oh and although the new kits for session drummer are more suited towards rock Id like to see tons more drum loops(like how toontrack does it)and make the kits the big rock/metal/punk rock sound.

Ok Im done complaining

Really?  The whining about "I just bought X1--it's so unfair!" is starting already?

For the record:  I only just moved from 8.5 to X1 in late May.  I also bought R-Mix (yechh!!) for $199 a month or so ago, which appears to be included in X2.

They seemed worth it at the time.  That's the breaks.  I expect some "late adopters" will get a break, and that's nice for them--I don't expect it for myself and didn't at the time I purchased these products.

Really, the whining is tedious.

complete quick grouping? what might that be. I have been reading about groups and snap shots to see if I can use that in creating a technique to solve my conundrum to enable me to use x1 as a way to control the fx I am playing my guitar through while playing live similar to how cantabile or forte would work

Cool little trailer but after the initial X1 debacle I refuse to get overly excited based on marketing hype.  Cakewalk has NEVER fell short on the bells and whistles.  They offer some of the best in the business in that area imo.  That's to be expected.

I'm more concerned about core functionality and things like:

Gapless audio

Better integration/routing options between the FX bin and ProChannel (maybe the new PC FX Chains will somehow address this)

Possible vst3 support.  Would like to see it but not a deal breaker.  Would be nice though.

Copy/Paste synth automation.  This has been broken since X1's release and despite numerous complaints on the forum and problem reports submitted, it has not been fixed in ANY of the X1 updates.  (This will be a deal breaker for me if not fixed. Because quite frankly I find it ridiculous that it's went this long w/o being addressed.)

Better handling of bus automation.  Crazy that you still can't properly copy and paste automation on busses.

Improved Browser functionality.  There's still some weird behavior w/ the browser at times.

....and so on.

And seeing as how it looks like they've done away w/ Expanded (which is a decision I agree with), I would hope there is a nice upgrade price for those of us who paid the extra money and bought into that whole thing.

Sorry to say, but with the little shown/said and the notice that there are now automation lanes and I guess you guys have decided to join the rest of the gang... I guess It's nearing time for me to seriously consider going over to ProTools for industry stability as it's so much the "standard" in so many places...

You're leaving me no other choice as "you" rapidly approach becoming a left-field, PT clone....

I hope to be convinced I'm wrong, but my first gut reaction has me already...

A very sad day for me as some of the other enticements look interesting... <sigh>

Now I'm gonna be "stuck" with X1 for I don't know how long... I've never been happy about it and I'm getting another big push....

I can't believe I'm already so agitated...

Keni

Read around the net Pro Tools is buggy as hell too. I think it might be equally stable to Pro Tools

If I had a dime for every post where somebody complained about "missing the big sale by 3 days" or "I just bought this like 4 months ago, and NOW they announce a new version!?"… I think I would have enough cash for the X2 upgrade.

Guys, I think what Jerry is trying to say here is: do we really need to go through this conversation every time a new version is announced? Or every time cakewalk has a promotional sale?

If you don't want to "get screwed" then never upgrade or buy new software. Simple. You will never risk paying full price some number of weeks… or months… or years, for that matter... prior to the announcement of a new version if you simply don't purchase the current version. Then you could at least say to yourself -- sure I'm using the SONAR 2 XL from 10 years ago, but at least I didn't pay all that money for X1 a mere 3 months prior to X2 being announced!

That promo gave me a headache, and annoyed me more than informed me. By now I am assuming that there is actually a list of features that Cakewalk is working from and not just a dummy list to flash-pan by in tiny little print on a low-res video to give the impression that a product is in process.
