SONAR X2 is a full version up upgrade. I was just using the naming convention of the OP as some folks call updates upgrades and other call upgrades updates. To be clear SONAR X2 is a new version and we will publish upgrade pricing closer to launch.

Sorry to say, but with the little shown/said and the notice that there are now automation lanes and I guess you guys have decided to join the rest of the gang... I guess It's nearing time for me to seriously consider going over to ProTools for industry stability as it's so much the "standard" in so many places... You're leaving me no other choice as "you" rapidly approach becoming a left-field, PT clone.... I hope to be convinced I'm wrong, but my first gut reaction has me already... A very sad day for me as some of the other enticements look interesting... <sigh> Now I'm gonna be "stuck" with X1 for I don't know how long... I've never been happy about it and I'm getting another big push.... I can't believe I'm already so agitated... Keni

Keni, I never thought that automation lanes would float my boat but one I started using them elsewhere, I found that they were darned handy to have. I would imagine that there will be an option to use them or have them integrated into a single track if that works better for for the user.

I would imagine that there will be an option to use them or have them integrated into a single track if that works better for for the user. Hi Dave... I'm praying they thought so too... I've worked with lanes before and tho I can get my work done, it's yet another style of work that slows me down.... How long have we had X1? 1.5 years? I'm still working way slower (overall) than I can in 8.5.3 just to have access to a few of the items I like in X1 (The PC and it's devices are wonderful for me)... I'm not trying to argue what is better, only that it may be too many conventions being changed for me to like it anymore.... If it comes to a draw between PT and Sonar as their' operating methods become similar, Sonar will lose out in many cases due to the heavy use and acceptance of PT in the industry.... Something I have always fought... ...and now I find myself already nervous and ranting the first day of it's announcement.... I did NOT want to do so and was hoping X2 would concede some avenue of return to previous work-models along with their' "new direction"... After all the ranting and discussions I feel as if it may have been totally ignored... Maybe when they release a little more realistic access to info I can relax, but right now.........? I don't feel too good! Keni

Automation lanes are a choice and are merely an enhancement to SONAR's automation system You can use either whenever you want on a per track basis. It's totally flexible.

Still looks the same... no new color controls. Unless hidden in the 100+ new UI improvements. Full screen mode should help. Improved install experience... much needed. I'm not going to get too excited about BREVERB yet or another amp sim. MIDI/Audio sync enhancements sound interesting. Matrix improvements might be nice... I haven't quite gotten the hang of the current i/f. Producer line of FX Chains... is that like Presets? Chinese version? Will it have a Moo Goo Gai Pan control?

Looking forward to it... Was just having a conversation with a fellow engineer who is using PT. For him to upgrade from the present version he is using (which I think is PT8 or 9) he has to purchase the whole new version which in essence makes his current version null & void. Just yesterday we were having that conversation... Bring X2 on and let us all keep making music :-)

[Insert string of positively loaded swear words here] That promo was a blast to my senses!!! That Looks AWESOME! I had to pause a bit to be able to read and study everything in the YouTube video - the new clip colours looks ace! Black backgrounds? It looks mean! UI enhancements is always promising, can't wait to see what they are. New PC stuff, always welcome. The automation lanes? Well, I don't really like working with them in Nuendo but if they are optional and we can choose between them- they might actually become a favourite feature. Speaking of, I'm really curious about automation modes. And all the other modes. Yup - this awakes the fanboi in me! But all the Expanded features listed as "new" or something, will Expanded still be an additional extra or will most of it be baked into the core program?

I had to pause a bit to be able to read and study everything in the YouTube video That promo gave me a headache, and annoyed me more than informed me. By now I am assuming that there is actually a list of features that Cakewalk is working from and not just a dummy list to flash-pan by in tiny little print on a low-res video to give the impression that a product is in process. Where can I find the same information [sic] in print?

Keni I'm not sure sure Pro Tools would float your boat then - at least, I don't think so (maybe version 10?). But from my experience in PT you see automation envelopes one at a time OR in lanes. I never looked to see if there was an option to have multiple envelopes at once because that's not how I work anyway, but if it's there, it's hidden somewhere.

Fantastic update many new features and stability fixes but still they continue use this grey boring console view? Hasn’t Cakewalk learned yet what we all want? I though it were now perfectly clear that everyone want to use! A dark console view, not grey! As many like to refer too "the industry standard"-DAW, haha….Pro Tools has it in dark console too. LOL
