If this is indeed a driver issue then the best thing to do would be to contact Roland. Unfortunately there seems to be no problem report form or other way of contacting them on their Support page ... http://www.roland.com/support/

Just curious, how big is this LASS template, and what version of Kontakt?

Are you using B2 Reverb or any other effects in this project?

To switch Sonar X2 to ASIO driver mode:
Press the P key to bring up Preferences
Under Audio>Playback and Recording... switch Driver Mode to WDM/KS

Once you have the OctaCapture configured using WDM/KS, try opening the project.

Seth: Thanks for the link and it certainly seems that Roland don't have that facility. Looks like a phone call.

Bob: It's five instances of Kontakt player (the latest release 5.2)each instance running one string section. It's the recommended way of doing it. Its also version 2.5 of LASS which includes preset templates to suit Hard Disk type/ Ram. I'm using the medium SSD divisi multis and they total about 5.5 GB in size according to Task Manager including whatever ram other processes may be using. If I purge the non vibrato samples then its reduced to under 5 so I would be amazed if it is a memory issue.

I'm not using B2 reverb, but using the stage and colour presets built in to LASS.

Thanks Seth, obviously we need to make it a bit easier to email us! :-) Currently, you can email support either by choosing 'Email Support" from the support menu listed on every page or by clicking the 'Email Support" icon on the top right of the page Seth listed. Apologies if that is not clear.

I have checked our Knowledge Base and do not see any specific reports of issues with this combination of products. Please do let our support team know the details and if there is an issue on our side we will do our best to get a resolution.

Hey Robin,

I get this exact same error and I don't even have Kontakt loaded onto my computer.  I would rule Kontakt out as being the cause of the issue or at least the main cause.

I don't see the Email Support icon on the top of the page I linked ... http://www.roland.com/support/article/?q=information&p=UA-1010 ... where exactly should it be?

Also, when I go to the Octa-Capture's product page here ... http://www.rolandus.com/products/details/1127/498 ... and click on the Support tab I see the option, 'You can also contact our Product Support department by phone or email.' However, clicking the Product Support hyperlink takes me to an FAQ page, not a contact page.

I'd like to be able to submit this bug report should I come across it myself.

EDIT: Nevermind, I see there's an Email Support button on the FAQ page.

Gotcha, I figured there would be a way to create a support ticket with Roland Japan directly, or at least be able to find the email form through RolandUS's product page.

Ok well here is my reply from Roland UK, who have been sent this email directly from you guys at cake. I'm now really confused, can anyone from cake explain this to me and the steps I need to take to rectify? I don't run any startup progs and always use admin privileges. I've had X2 installed since it came out so I'm not sure how (if its an installation problem) it's just decided to show up? Also it says that it doesn't cause any instability in sonar yet mine crashes like crazy. Confused.

..................................................

Hi,
Thanks for your email.
I have had an email from the Cakewalk team in Boston relating to this exact issue. Please find this information below.

I hope this helps

Best regards

“Hello Jamie,

The "NullProxy.dll" file that is failing to register is a pretty harmless file. Essentially this is the component that identifies the name of a plug-in when a plug-in is identified as missing when launching a project. If the "NullProxy.dll" file is not registered, it won't cause any instability in SONAR it just won't list the name of any missing plug-ins.

This not installing properly is usually a result of something blocking the installer. Do you happen to run any anti-virus software? If so, I recommend fully disabling it and then try running the SONAR installation again.

It is also helpful to temporarily disable any startup programs as well. This can be done by doing the following:

1) Open the Run Command by holding down the "Windows" key on your keyboard and pressing "R"
2) At the run prompt, type in the following: msconfig
3) Click [OK] to open the System Configuration Utility
4) Click on the "Startup tab at the top and then click the [Disable All] button.
5) Click [Apply] then [Close] and then restart your computer

NOTE: you can always re-enable any desired startup services by revisiting this utility and selecting the services you want to start when launching Windows.

After disabling the startup applications, try running the installer again by right-clicking on it and selecting "Run as Administrator". This should elevate the user's installation privileges”

Re: X2-Kontakt-Octacapture-jump off of cliff. 2013/08/29 10:33:10 (permalink)
I dug up this nugget, which allows you to search to see if a particular dll is registered:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDLLs

So, you would fire up Regedit, then navigate to the above key, then hit F3 (find) and type in NullProxy.dll and hit enter to let Windows search the registry for that dll.

If you are crashing that much, it may well do you good to completely remove X2a and install it over again.  But, using the above method for searching to see if a dll is registered or not, you could try a manual registration of that dll prior to going through a Sonar remove/install process.

I actually ran the regedit search I described above, and did in fact find the NullProxy.dll, so the technique does work.

So, why not give the above a try and post back on whether or not it is registered or not, and post back.  IF a removal and installation of Sonar is needed, I can post the steps you can follow to do so.

Can you do me a favor and start Sonar, don't bother opening a project (close the Quick-Open dialog box).  Once it starts, click Help>About Sonar, and post back the release information that it displays (build number stuff)?

Thanks,

SO, you just then verified that that particular dll WAS in fact registered, so whoever said it wasn't was wrong.

You can now supply that information back to the tech support folks who told you that - maybe it will lead to something more positive.

At least that portion of the install was valid.

And that is indeed the current X2a build.

Gut tells me this isn't RAM, Sonar or Kontact, per se, but a page fault due to RAM limitations that hangs at the same spot, triggered by the file indicated.

Have you tried as quick and dirty variant using just 4 instances of Kontact? If that works, it would tend to confirm my guess above. If you are showing 6.6gb ram used of 8gb total, you've got 1.4gb in float, and are going to be paging a lot. The more you page, the more it will error, and windows still doesn't handle page faults as well as unix always has.

Bob, The email suggesting that was the case came directly from cakewalk apparently. A typical read from a script email i suspect. At least Roland got back to me and to be totally honest, Jamie, the guy at Roland UK helping me out here has been brilliant. Customer service at its best. Cakewalk haven't even acknowledged my email yet.

JayTee, many thanks for your input. The total Ram in use is just under 5GB in task manager if i purge some samples and if I try a dirty version, it's too random to pin anything down. It either works or it doesn't. Safe mode loads if I only use two instances despite it sometimes working if I load everything.. All 5 instances load under normal start if I load another project first without Kontakt then close it. Sometimes it loads first time but then I have no output from sound card despite the sonar meters working. I guess you could still be right tho, definitely more knowledgable than me!

But, there are others on this thread suffering the same problem without Kontakt and only using one instance of a plugin so it seems that there is an issue between OctaCapture and Sonar under certain conditions. Think I will try the demo of presonus studio one to see if that works any better, but that really isn't the path I wish to travel.
Still... my missus doesn't give me an easy life, why should my DAW? ;-)

Yes - even the Cakewalk folks can get things wrong from time to time. (please don't smite me). :)

It certainly is a weird one - those are the most head-spinning ones to work through.

I was just thinking you could take that back to the Cakewalk technical support folks, to let them know that indeed that dll is registered, that maybe that would get them looking into it a bit deeper.

Sorry for my english.
Here I am getting similar problems with sonar x2a - octa-capture. Often freezes and audio continues running in a loop cycle and some projects can not open.
With Ableton Live and other software no problems.

There seems to be a lot of confusion going on here. To clarify this for people who do not know, Roland UK, Roland US, and Cakewalk are all technically separate companies with separate offices and separate staff. While we all work in a partnership under Roland Corporation, if you send an email to Roland US, nobody at Cakewalk is going to know about it and vice versa unless things get passed around. I think it is important to identify this not to try to point out a disconnect, but more so to understand who it is exactly you're working with and what questions they'll most likely be able to dig into on a deeper level directly. I work with the staff at Roland UK and Roland US quite often and they're all great and helpful people.

Anyhow, what I'm picking up on here is a lot of the "telephone game" going on. Roland U.K. reaching out to our partner support, etc, and the finer details are getting lost and mixed up as things go back and forth. We're making suggestions based on people passing incorrect info and making mistakes, etc. Unfortunately this happens from time to time :/

If you need help with SONAR and want to reach out, as always, the best way of doing this is via the official contact methods posted here: http://forum.cakewalk.com/How-to-contact-Cakewalk-directly-m2839291.aspx

To the OP, I located the crash reports (which is an automated system) as well as the official ticket you sent in directly to Cakewalk email support last week. Thank you for sending this stuff over! I'm sorry for the delay.

The crash analysis indicates as suggested, that the OCTA-CAPTURE ASIO .dll driver is crashing on some level.

I can't personally analyze the crash any further because Cakewalk doesn't have debugging symbols for the OCTA-CAPTURE since we don't create the drivers. It does seem pretty obvious that the crash is happening at this point however.

Jim suggested testing the WDM/KS driver mode earlier in this thread but it doesn't seem to have been attempted yet (or maybe the outcome not provided). This is the same route I would take as well. Using WDM/KS should bypass using this RDAS1110.dll file and hopefully resolve the crash in this instance.

Can you give that a shot to see if it resolves the issue? If not, can you upload a new report through the Fault Reporter system, select that you'd like to be notified of the outcome, and reply to me with the CWBRN #?

Another thing you might investigate is whether or not there are any updates available for your version of Kontakt. I've printed the version info above if it is helpful.

Hey Ryan.  I get this same error often, and had narrowed it down to having something to do with the OctaCapture driver.  I think this should be a CWBRN# for a crash related to this problem:  CWBRN-18354 if and N of more than one helps.

Many thanks Ryan, appreciate your reply.

I haven't tried anything other than the asio drivers because in fact I have discovered that this fault only occurs if it is the first project loaded after Sonar start up. If I load another random project first, then close it, I can open the project in question without error.

In terms of further assistance, am I to assume that I now need to report your message back to my contact at Roland UK and ask him to submit the findings to Roland tech support?

Kind Regards

Any updates on this?

Lately I have been experiencing very long load times for certain projects.  However if the octacapture is turn off and I try to load the project it pops right now.  My thought it the octacapture driver is conflicting with something, but I just don't know what it is.

Highest Olive, have you tried the WDM/KS driver? This although not ideal definitely works for me until the issue is resolved.

I haven't tried that.  Did you notice an increase in latency when you when to the WDM/KS driver.  I seem to recall much higher latency on my system when accidentally set the system with drivers other than the ASIO.

That being said it would appear that the driver is the issue.  I guess the best course of action would be to contact Roland and let them know about the problem.  Maybe they can fix it.

6ms -10ms for me so more than acceptable. Hopefully roland will address the asio problem as part of their windows 8.1 update but I guess it depends on how much of a problem it is in terms of numbers.

Any update for this?
I exactly have the same problem with Roland Quad Capture.
Sometimes even changing asio setting without any project loaded could trigger this error.
Thanks,
