Im gonna wait till the upgrade goes to $49 and they throw in more stuff. Im tired of upgrading and then its like a month later we have to do it again.

LOL thats probably because you wait for it to be $49.

This was a painless upgrade except for the Addictive Drums install.

I haven't done the AD part yet because I still have to pick up a wireless USB adapter, but for X3 itself (and everything it includes) the process was simple and just worked.  All of my plugins (about 400) carried over just fine, and I now have access to the VST3 versions of the Melda FX and Tyrell (that's all I have for VST3).  But it was all visible and ready without any futher action.    I like the new categorization in the Browser too, though I'll probably create a new custom template based on what I see in the two delivered templates.

Unfortunately I had issues with X2a.
I installed X3a on the same system ( with X2a ) and haven't
had one issue.
I've only had 3 big sessions using it and it was nothing but
great times. I ended every session just shaking my head and thinking;
just amazing.
Performance and support is being demonstrated at a very high
level by Cakewalk...tuff enough. (Gibson made a smart move I think.)

I think it's terrific. Have given it a real runaround now, and it is SOLID. Even little gui issues I had been experiencing in previous versions (which may have been system specific)- tracks expanding at different rate to sidebar, procahnnel modules jiggling a little when scrolled in console view- have been resolved.

Love the refined EQ. Melodyne integration is sweet- lets all pray for more ARA apps in the future. Tape Sim in the ProChannel? Love it! Comping is great- it's like the way I used to work but it's like the system is set up that way now- and the auto fades are a small change that make a big difference for someone who works mostly with audio like me.

It's just a shame that audio magazines give everything full marks now because this is one DAW that actually does deserve 5/5.

Wishlist: Scrub tool to be improved (I see it has been relegated now so maybe not much chance of this happening), Clip Gain envelopes like every other DAW in existence (change the wave in realtime).

edit: after reading some of the other testimonials- that is really cool spacey. I'm happy it's working out for you.

Incidentally, in case anyone's unfamiliar with this, if you go to Help-> About and click on "X3", you'll see a credits screen with names of everyone who's worked on the release. This is not a big development team by any standard. As a developer myself, I have to say, I've been on much bigger teams that were a lot less productive. So kudos grandissimos to the bakers for pulling off this Herculean feat.

Incidentally, that screen is a bit less crowded than it was on X1:

I hope this is not indicative of downsizing of any kind. Seeing this and the little financial bit posted elsewhere, I'm tempted to suspect that some form of cost-cutting must have occurred, and that couldn't have been pleasant to anyone involved. To everyone here howling at the wind about how much you were cheated by the release cycle or some bug that's been gnawing at your troubled mind, I would recommend considering how much better off you'd be if all these straws finally broke the camel's back.

Loving X3! Haven't downloaded the X3b update yet, but hoping it cures the issue I was having saving presets in VST3 plugins.

IMO, X3b is a great build!
I've been running it through the paces - pounding it actually - and it hasn't choked yet.
I didn't have any show-stoppers with X2a, just a couple of annoyances that I can't replicate in X3b.

Kudos to all the guys & gals on the Cake team!

Good to know.  I'm still on Win 7, and X2a didn't work well at all on my system.  It had performance issues--not as high a track count as X1.  I've bought X3 and will spend the day setting it up.

I do have X3B but have not had time to do anything with much.

Performance improvements are not due to the placebo effect. It really is better performing.

Yevster thank you for thinking about the developer team. They deserve a pat on the back.

ARA integration of melodyne and the new comping workflow are serious timesavers for me. The track colors and new grouping options (group takes within folders) help keep me organized.

And overall the application feels a lot more solid. I'm totally sold, and really think this is the best version of Sonar yet.

Serious kudos to the Cakewalk team!

Peace,

Tunes
